NG28/33 orb Kolmisilmä
By Prodeses
Notes from my first and most likely last NG28 run. Most of this content also applies to any longer runs such as "just 33 orbs" or Sun quest.

Prologue
SPOILERS AHEAD

I started this run before epiloque 2 patch with an intention to finally get rest from this game by doing most sanity reducing run possible. Reaching NG28, gathering all 33 orbs and killing Kolmisilmä there (mere a 141,941,286,942,193,000,000 health.).

Stay a while and listen. Don’t try this. It’s a grindfest, not really a test for skill. I started this run 04.04.2024. It took me almost a month to complete it. In the beginning it felt rewarding. Breaking into parallel words, picking spells and perks. Gaining power and descending into godhood.

I soon surely become my own nemesis.
Preparation phase
As any run. You dig in, find wands and spell. Mess around, eat fungus and kill yourself with “clever” wand. For longer runs you keep your eyes open for certain key components:

  • Ambrosia (make it two)
  • Black hole(s) (and anything that speeds projectiles up)
  • Teleport bolt
  • A way to kill Ylialkemisti (and Skoude/Stevari)
  • Paha silmä.

A single unmodified instance of Black hole (meaning all 3 charges) is enough to break back into earlier biome if you levitate at right corner of spell/wand section of HM and aim directly up. So as long as you don't pick spell refreshment during descent at any HM you have a way to reach surface again. You also most likely need at least one uncollapsed HM in order to rebuild black hole wand with greek letters.

Then you breach into next parallel word thinking the world is your oyster and you are the pearl. Better than anyone ever will be. Crack open the mountains as soon to be god should. Kill guardians, rinse and repeat. Soon you have at least 37 Holy mountains with unpicked perks and unrolled re-roll machines. Pick whatever perks needed before, but make it sure you have at least 37 mountains with unpicked perks. Damn, make it 50 as you’ll lost count soon.

Broken machines? Good, use them to your advance. And dissmiss the useless/harmful ones.

(The idea is to visit Mountain so the reroll machine loads. As it loads it gets a set price depending how many times you have rolled so far. So if you don’t reroll at all, every machine you encounter has same 200 gold price. Once you start rolling, roll each machine once.)
Perks
Immunities, obviously. Perk lottery (a lot), Extra perk on holy mountains (to five/six perks), Slime blood (ass many ass possible). Stainless armor (a lot) and Repelling cape (some fiveish). Shields and More love (at least four). Tinker with wands everywhere. Gas blood after enough Slime blood (should be the last “blood” perk you’ll ever pick). All seeing eye and Breathless.

Stronger hearts may help and Extra health will eventually will lead you to >1,09*10^17 hp.

Saving grace and Extra lives for the wimpy ones. Stronger/Longer levitation and extra speed makes things easier so some of those can be picked (low priority). Don’t overdo extra speed.

Rest are more or less useless or even harmful. Some nonstackables just to get rid of them and making perk pool smaller.

This is where your hell begins
Around this point you want to kill Syväolento (Lake boss). Two words: Projectile weakness.

Let’s say you have some 17-30 Stainless armor right now. If you haven’t do the prerequisite for Sun quest now. First sun can be created in NG0, and second in NG1. You can only bring two sun seeds to NG1 so plan accordingly. Otherwise seek the world Overgrown Cavern for spells and wands. You want following:

  • Infinite damage wand
  • Black hole digging wand
  • Long distance travel wand (LDT)
  • Healing/teleport wand

This was my setup. “Ideally” digging, healing and teleport would all be combined into a one wand.”Ideally” as it’s really easy end up teleporting in a pool of poison/polymorphine with that kind of wand.

(Later I updated tele/healing wand as following: Blood magic, Double cast, Chainsaw, Luminous drill with timer, Small teleport bolt, Nolla for faster yet somehow controllable travel.)

For infinite damage I used this quide (I have no idea who’s evil genius behind design):

Tentacle with timer, Heavy shot, Spells to Power, Homing, Divide by 4, Omega, Spark bolt.
Descent into a madness
So, orbs. Ever heard of them? Find five, pick Sampo up. kill Kolmisilmä, get to Sky altar and press [E] to win the game.

WRONG!

Repeat this 28 times and add one orb for each NG cycle. Why would you do this to yourself? Well, in any NG+ orbs are pseudorandomly located. Trust the stone. Extremely Dense Rock to be exact. X on the following map marks the entry point of each area. Easy to find in game.

(With enough Stainless armor the Hell entry point is above Essence of water. Dive down the lava until you see the EDR popping up and dig down from corner at 45 degree angle.)

Early on you can just pick surface orbs with LTD wand, get Sampo and proceed to next NG. Eventually the required orb count rises and rises. Later when most orbs are needed I found it easiest to travel counterclockwise, first picking Sky altar, then Frozen vault, Lake, Snow chasm, Hell and so on leaving Holy bomb and spiral shot last.

With Long Distance Travel wand in theory you only need locate maximum 11 orbs. However for some reason the one I used sometimes send me way down to the Hell/Sky. Might be because Epilogue 2 patch was released halfway during my run so I needed to play Beta 20240214.

World generation also seems to get bit wonky around NG25 as sometimes EDR around last 2 orbs may spawn in wrong formation. Entry points are still valid so you may need to estimate spawn area width. Or travel up/down instead of left/right zigzag. When you are falling/levitating you’ll easily stay in same chunk. This’ll greatly increase your search time.
Poison
By the way, you may have noticed that picking corrupted orbs damages you. They’ll deal 2% of your max hp poison damage every 60 frames and it’ll last roughly half minute. Bad news is that the damage is tripled on every NG+ further. Later having such curse active and stepping in a pool of water/blood/any magic liquid will instantly kill you as your Stainless armor will not work under any status effect. The lake orb is is by the way buried quite deep in water. Did you kill the Syväolento as suggested earlier?

If you move fast enough past the orb and pick it up at the last possible moment you’ll miss the heart. Practice this early on and with regular orbs. I also mentioned Paha silmä. You still should have it in inventory as it can be used to clear any liquid near orbs. This should be done in case of accidentally picking cursed heart. Don’t panic, just spray some Ambrosia on you and wait. As you have quite some Repealing capes you don’t want to move and you don't want any random liquid to wash off Ambrosia.

Did I say poison? With enough More love perks you’re likely to survive polymorphine easily. However ominous liquid and poison are different subjecs. They both grants stain effect meaning once again your Stainless armor is stained in ♥♥♥♥. So long the long run. I have not found any reasonable way to neutralize these so my only advice would be to look where you teleport and being really careful when digging up/down with highspeed black holes.

Prezombie noted me at comment section that poison can be neutralized by fungal shifting Toxic sludge into something else as that shares same shifting class as poison. As always shifting is a risky business but 75% (hold sludge flask when shift occurs) is rather good odd for success. This should be done early on.
In the end
Still sane after hunting down all those orbs? Good, head to Kolmisilmä. With infinite damage wand this fight is really anticlimatic. Specially if you cast it split second before picking Sampo.

Otherwise you need to wait few second for his shields to fall. See:

Now it’s up to you. Jump in the portal and end your game reqular way or head back to Mountain altar for Peaceful ending. Now you can end this nightmare in the sweet sweet release of death.

Actually, only the regular and unstable polymorphine shift, I managed to shift poly into flummoxium, but I noticed I still had a flask of chaotic poly in my inventory, so it's good to pay attention to those.

Sure. Also all the polymorphines also shift together, but that doesn't really matter in such long runs.

To be honest I had no idea that all of those belong into same shift. Fungal shift is always risk/reward scenario which I try to avoid on long runs. But reward part on that shift seems easily outweigh risks. It does not remove the cursed heart problem but still. Are you okay if I add that under "Poison" section?

You fail to mention the easiest way to neutralize poison. Fungal shift that stuff away! If you want to be "pure" (i e no seed-reading tool), you can fill a potion with Toxic Sludge (toxic sludge, poison, and ominous liquid all shift away together) and fungal shift until the potion is suddenly something else or the run becomes unplayable.
