Enlisted Beginners guide

I'll try to guide you through Enlisted with some information I think is useful.

The recommendations I offer in this guide are purely subjective. What I deem as 'good' might not align with everyone's preferences, and that's okay. We all have our own playstyles and preferences.

To minimize the grind, I suggest planning which weapons and vehicles you want to focus on upgrading. This way, you avoid wasting silver on gear that you won't use. When upgrading weapons and especially vehicles, it's a good idea to use upgrade tokens, but for the last upgrade only, as this will save you a ton of silver.

Before you start reading, I’d like to apologize in advance for the disorganized placement of some pictures. This appears to be an issue with Steam, I tried rearranging them for a cleaner layout, but no matter what I did, they still ended up looking messy.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that Enlisted is a squad-based shooter, where AI controls the bots in your squad. Sometimes they suck, and other times they are godlike; this goes both ways. I've lost count of the times where an AI bot shot me, and my first thought was - this guy is cheating (he was not). It was a bot, and they could see me through bushes far away.

The server records the games (there is a delay), and you can always watch the replay and see it from your killers viewpoint. ( https://enlisted.net/en/replays/#! )

(Please note that these recommendations may be affected by future game updates, and I’ll do my best to keep this guide up to date.)

Additionally, I recommend considering a subscription if you plan to invest significant time in the game. Think of it as similar to subscribing to an MMO like World of Warcraft. And it's not that expensive, especially when they have a sale. This is not a requirement; the game is playable without it, but it lessens the grind.

Basics
Another thing to keep in mind before choosing factions is that nations are not equal.

USSR has the best infantry weapons.
USA has some really strong planes (Especially the P47).
Germany has some really strong tanks.
Japan has strong fightes, SMGs and Katanas for melee attacks and run speed.

The game have 5 Battle ratings (BR), and your BR is based on the highest BR item you bring, one BR5 item will bring you into BR5 battles no matter if everything else you bring is BR1. An item's research tier is not always the same as BR even when this often is true, so check your gear.

Matchmaking Rules :

(If there are enough players in the queue):

BR I fights only BR II.
BR II/III fight each other.
BR III/IV & BR IV/V fight each other.

(If there aren't enough players in the queue):

BR I fights only BR II.
BR II/III fight each other.
BR III/IV/V fight each other.

You can save different lineups, for example BR2, BR3 and BR5 as long as you don’t use the same squads in different BR lineups.

You can also save different soldier setups, and there is also an "auto loadout for xBR" but… it does not always pick your most upgraded weapon, so you might need to check up on that when using this feature.

Ok, before we start talking about guns, we need to have an understanding of the health system.

In Enlisted, a soldier starts with 10 health points (or 13.5 if they have the vitality perk). When their health reaches 0, there's a possibility they will enter a downed state instead of dying. While downed, they can crawl, use a suicide grenade, or heal up (you can choose any combination of these actions).

While in the downed state, a soldier can go as low as -10 health points (or -13.5 with the vitality perk) before dying.

As an example :
- if a soldier takes 19 damage (or 26 with the vitality perk) or less, there's a chance they'll enter the downed state.
- If they're hit for 20 damage (or 27 with the vitality perk), they will die without the chance to enter the downed state."

*Note that a headshot does 180%-200% dmg.

For new players I would recommend staying mostly at BR2 until you have enough unlocks to have a solid BR4 lineup, for the reasons I mentioned when I explained about the BR system and I also think this is where the most fun gameplay is, but this is a matter of preferences.

For gear I will be focusing on BR2 Germany and the USA only.
For me BR2 is the most fun, I don’t like that everything explodes all over, all the time and that is often a thing in BR5.
I decided to stay with 2 nations to lessen the grind a bit, and I decided that to be USA and Germany.
All for all the small arms I mention, I'm only talking about the fully upgraded stats.
Germany BR2 Small Arms
Rifles :

The Mannlicher M1895 is a good choice, it shoots fast and it hits hard.
Fire rate of 76 RPM. Hit Power 25.3 (down to 12.7 at 300m).
The downside is that it has no Bayonet and the small Iron sight can be hard to see for some people.

The Pre-War Kar98k Is a good alternative.
It shoots a little slower, it hits hard and it does have a bayonet.
Fire rate of 69 RPM. Hit Power 25.4 (down to 12.7 at 300m).

And there is a new contender after some BR changes, the the VG.2.
With a fire rate of 62 RPM. Hit Power 25.4 (down to 12.7 at 300m).
This comes with a 10 round magazine

SMGs :
I'm a bit split here, there are three strong contenders.

The FNAB-43 Firing at 460 RPM, it’s highly controllable and features a 40-round magazine. This would be my 3rd choice.

The PPSh-41 'Obrez' This is my new favorite. It have an insane fire rate of 1150 RPM and comes with a 35-round magazine. However, you'll need extra ammo if you choose this for any soldier outside the Guerilla class, and it lacks the precision of the MP40 and FNAB.

The MP40, with a fire rate of 570 RPM and a 32-round magazine, unlocks very late in the research tree. It would be my 2nd choice, the MP40 have a good precision. Which gives it a shared first place alongside the PPSh-41. If you're not carrying extra ammo, I’d recommend the MP40 over the PPSh-41 (except for the Guerilla class). After the BR changes, I would place the MP40 below the Beretta M38/42.

The Beretta M38/42 has a fire rate of 630 RPM and a 40-round magazine. It unlocks very late in the research tree, and after the BR changes, it now sits at BR2. It would now be my first choice, unless you're carrying extra ammo. If you are, I recommend the PPSh-41. If you're not, I'd go with the Beretta M38/42 over the PPSh-41 (except for the Guerrilla class, where I would always use the PPSh-41).

Anti Tank weapon :Not much to discuss here.
The GrB-39 is the clear winner, it shoots HEAT rounds and has an armor pen of 90mm.
With the Sturmpistole in 2nd place with an armor pen of 60mm.

Sniper :
Again, Not much to discuss here.
The Pre-War Kar98k Scoped is the winner.

MGs :
Its between the MG 13 and the Breda Mod. 30, personally I like the Breda better even when it shoots slower, I use it as an assault/battle rifle.
Germany BR2 Vehicle's
Planes :
IAR-81CThis plane is a fighter bomber, it's really good for its BR, just remember to focus on enemy planes before ground targets.

Ju 87 B2 (or Ju 87 D5 if you want 20mm cannons)
This plane is slow, but it has a good bomb load, and the D5 also has good firepower.

Tanks:

Pz3 N
Good tank vs. infantry and ok vs tanks.
The 75mm KwK37 Cannon does not have the best armor penetration, but the HE shells are very strong vs. infantry.

Sd.Kfz.234/2
Armored car - Good vs. tanks and ok vs. infantry.
The 50mm KwK39/1 cannon have a very good armor penetration for its tier.
Its fast but lightly armored, good at flanking

Pz3 J1
Good tank vs. tanks and ok vs. infantry.
The 50mm KwK39 Cannon has the same penetration as the Sd. Kfz 234/2. I would pick this over the Sd.Kfz.234/2 as it is better armored.
USA BR2 Small Arms
Rifles :
My favorite rifle for the USA is the Springfield M1903A1 USMC and as a bonus it has a bayonet.
The Ross MK. III rifle are also really good.

SMGs :

For me the M1A1 Thompson is the best choice here, it shoots with 690 RPM and has a 30 round magazine and a hit power of 8.2 .

The Lanchester is the second best choice here, it shoots with 690 RPM and has a 32 round magazine and a hit power of 6.8 .

The OwenMk 1 shoots with 810 RPM and has a 33 round magazine and a hit power of 6.8 , but it has a weird sight.
.png]

The Browning Auto 5 is an Auto shotgun that can also be really nasty, i put it here with the SMGs as Assaulters (and Engineers) can use it.

Anti Tank weapons :
I chose the M1 Bazooka, as it fires in a straight line, i always miss with the Piat, but the Piat have better AP if you can hit with it.

Sniper :The best here is the Springfield M1903A4

MG : I don't think there are any good choices, but the best one is the Bren MK2

USA BR2 Vehicle's
Planes :

The P-51C-10 is a really fast plane, equipped with 4x12.7mm (.50 cal) cannons
On top of that it also have 2x 100 lb (2x50kg) bombs

The Spitfire Mk Vc/trop have a strong 4x 20mm cannons, but only 480 ammo.

The Spitfire Mk Vb/trop have 2x 20 mm with 120 ammo and 4x 7.7 mm with 1400 ammo.

Both Spitfires sacrifice speed for turn rate, making them some of the strongest turn fighters in this BR, but they don't have any bombs.

The Dauntless is a slow bomber, with 2x 100 lbs (2x 50 kg) bombs and a big 1000 lbs (500 kg) bomb, that bomb is so good, it have a big blast radius.

Tanks :
M8 Scott is an open top glass cannon, this howitzer tank are the bane of stacked infantry (buildings and bunkers)

Crusader this thing is a beast, i was really surprised by this, its good vs. tanks and infantry, and thanks to the auto loader it shoots really fast..
General tips
Engineers win games, this can't be said enough. Build rally points!

Engineers can also build ammo crates and various fortifications types.

If you are a defender, fortifications are also really good, barbed wire is so annoying for the attackers, it's important when building fortifications that you avoid blocking your own team's entrances on the map, i would also recommend that you equip your engineers with a shovel and a weapon with a bayonet so they can still charge.

It's a good idea to have 1 engineer in all your squads for the above reasons..

It's a good idea to have 1 engineer squads in all your lineups as they can build AA and AT guns.

Rally points have very few hit points, so build them in hidden spots. Place 2 sandbags around them as close as possible, like this: (*). This setup protects your rally point from explosions and the AI will not get stuck because we placed the sandbags really close. Adding an AP mine on the rally point provides further defense. Some enemy players might drop an AP mine on it instead of shooting it. When you've placed your own AP mine, they'll most likely die trying, and friendly damage won't harm the rally point.

Another strategy could be to dig a hole (if you have a shovel) and place the spawner there.

MG squads are the only squad that can build a HMG with their engineer.

SMGs are strong.

If you are a pilot and have bombs, make sure to take out the grey zone camping tanks.

You can change the firing mode of some weapons by pressing the H key.

There is also a lot of good help to get on the official forum - https://forum.enlisted.net/en/

Finally, if you found this guide helpful, I would truly appreciate it if you could take a moment to vote and rate it..

Very nice guide, but i dont agree with USSR having the best infantry weapons. Only the PPSh-41 is really OP, and maybe in low BR they are good, but in terms of other guns and higher BR, Germany wins for me. (Mainly their MGs are much stronger, ussr mgs have low accuracy and much more recoil). But USSR does have the best AA gun.

@Jkjkrandom thank you for the heads up, i havent been playing for a while. i will update that in the guide.
Jkjkrandom 5 Sep, 2024 @ 11:36am
since you posted this they changed the br system so unless you play low pop (japan or at weird times) br 1 will now only be matched with br 1-2 and not 3

Hi @U m a m i - You are welcome, In my experience, it seems pretty random, sometimes they're dumb, and other times they're really good. Placing markers (with the V key) helps make them aware of that direction, so maybe that could help a bit.

Do you know if there's a way for the ai too get better at shooting? if you know.
Thanks for the nice recs also!

Regarding the promised update, I'm not sure if there's a character limit, but Steam isn't letting me add more to the guide. Also, some of the layout looks a bit weird, even though I tried to separate sections with multiple lines. Maybe that's related to the same issue.

Anyway, I'm glad to see so many of you are reading it, and I hope it helps make the start of the game easier for some of you.

See you on the battlefield! :gohtiger:

Awesome thanks. My paternal grandfather was there. Fortunately the beachhead was already established when his boots hit the sand.

@Joseph.audet - The game does have a Normandy scenario
joseph.audet 30 Jul, 2024 @ 9:09pm
I just got this game today. Will there be a Normandy scenario?
