Left: HDR ON ---- Right: Vanilla game

Introduction
This mod takes use of Special K mod to enable true HDR on the game, which is by default disabled on older games. We will also eliminate that "fog" the game has due to the gamma used, issue commonly named washed out image.

The changes are drastic and more impressives than screenshots and video, because show how HDR looks compared to SDR is hard, so lets begin.
Before Start
Your TV/Monitor must have HDR, this is not a trick or a simple filter, its native HDR so if your screen doesnt have HDR you wont be able to do this. It must be enabled on Windows and configured with HDR calibration tool windows has.

SpecialK Method
  • Install Special K, download from official site [www.special-k.info]

  • Open Special K and launch the game(game should be auto-detected), later we will make this permanent and we wont need to start the game through Special K.

  • Once game is open, press control+shift+backspace to open SpecialK menu. Now we will disable startup notifications.

  • Now we will enter the HDR menu, and enable hdr.

  • This will pop up another menu where will you select "scRGB", then as its saying us press alt+enter, if it doesnt work restart game.

  • Now we are close to the end, probably you already noticed a change in screen quality but its not finished... this is the key menu for make work HDR properly

In red we have the mandatory things, they must be as they appear on the screen(color boost can be disabled, i have it disabled). The last one in red is who controls the gamma, which is the one that improves that washed out image that comes with this version of the game and that was not in PS4 version(NOTE, on latest version of SpecialK this value only goes to 1.333, slide it to the max or the ammount you like).

On yellow we have "brightness scale" which is the peak brightness your TV/Monitor can reach, in my case is 800nits(but i put 750 because i prefer it). If your monitor is 1200 nits put that, if its 400 nits put 400 then...

  • If u dont know which is your peak brightness we have a tool on that screen to know it.

  • This will pop up this menu and the screen will turn white, now press on +/- to calibrate and make the pattern barely visible, that will give you your peak brightness.

  • And thats it we have now full HDR on the game natively, restart the game to make all changes effective because some of them need a restart. But we left one step, make this permanent and not need to open SpecialK every time we go to play.

Return to main menu of SpecialK and press "File", now press the tab "Install wrapper DLL" and we dont require anymore open the game through SpecialK

Reshade Method
Well i think most people know reshade, but i will explain it. This method is a bit hard to do(without help, but you have this guide) and looks a little worse than SpecialK, but we dont have those little graphical glitches SpecialK has(in some song there are textures that appears in black).

First of all download reshade from his official page[reshade.me], must be the version with "add-on support"

Execute the .exe, select the game with DirectX10/11/12 and press next to the next page, where you will leave the default selected effects and will search and select this one and click next

Now on the next page we will search for "autoHDR" addon and select it, then click next and finish

We are ready to start the settings on the game, launch the game and open reshade menu with "home" button, skip tutorial and there is it

IF YOU HAVE WHITE SCREEN, PRESS ALT+ENTER AND IT WILL BE FIXED

Go to Add-ons page and enable HDR like it is on the next screenshot, then restart the game.

Now we open again the game and you will notice it looks wrong, that because HDR was enabled but not configured. Open reshade and set the options like in the screenshot below, i will explain them

In RED, we have tonemap that must be above "inverse tone mapping", and inside tonemap we have...

On Yellow
we have the inverse tonemapping, this will make HDR to work and looks at it should

Pink:

- The first one are the nits your screen have, mine is 800, set as your screen is capable of.

- Set processing mode to YCbCr-like, it looks more natural(contrary to what the default option says) with a correct contrast and brightness.

And the other 2 depends of the screen, for example:

800nits screen: 80/80
1200nits screen: 120/120
600nits screen: 60/60

- Saturation, that will grant us a little bit of color that i think game lacks off(its not too much, but if you dont like it, set to 0)

Green: The gamma, this will fix the washed out image game has compared to its original PS4 version. This controls the gamma of the game, its as your likeness, slide it until for you its ok and its not washed out, around 1.500 is a good point to start, you may like more or less gamma strenght.

And thats all.

Glad you liked it, i added a reshade method that also enable hdr on game

Because if you already tested it, there are a few songs that with SpecialK have some graphics bugs(like Meteor, Monochrome Blue Sky, Odds&ends or Sweet Devil), but after a loooot of tests i did, i found the perfect settings with reshade method that looks nearly identical to SpecialK but without bugs.

It took me a couple hours to figure out the correct settings (I didn't know how I can enable HDR from my monitor, luckily internet knows quite a lot), adjusting the perceptual boosts and gamma, but oh my does it look good? Oh yes it does, definitely worth the 2 hour learning experience.

Also a little tip if you don't want to install Wrapper, there is a steam command that makes you launch the game through Special K automatically, so no need for other 3rd party softwares.
