Black screen fix #3. (works for both GOD EATER RESURRECTION & GOD EATER 2.)
By Hexzamal
If you've tried the other 2 black screen fixes and neither worked for you, maybe this one will. 🤞

1. What exactly was the issue I was having?
Whenever I tried booting up the game I'd get a black screen (you can hear the music in the background) with 4 white dots on screen that eventually become 8 white dots (once it goes past the Bandai Namco logo.) That looks like this.

2. What have I tried to fix the issue for me?
First I altered the ini file found within the appdata folder. Then I changed the compatibility options of the games exe-file to these:

Run this program in compatibility mode for Win 8. (Checked)

Run this program as an administrator. (Checked)

So far nothing worked for me.
3. In depth explanations + fix.
How to find the config-ini file.

By default your AppData folder will be hidden, (most system folders are.) To get to it easily press your windows key and in the search bar type "%APPDATA%" then press enter. A widow will pop up but you'd be in the Roaming folder.

At the top where it says Roaming click the 3 dots beside it then click AppData. In the AppData
folder you should now see 3 folders:

Local
LocalLow
Roaming

From there open the Local folder, then open the BANDAI NAMCO GAMES folder>GOD EATER RESURRECTION> here is where your config-ini file is located. Open that config file with notepad (you can press CTRL+F to search for "[GFX]") or you can scroll down till you find it. Now, where it says "Fullscreen=1" you can change that "1" to either:

Fullscreen=0 -windowed mode.

Fullscreen=2 -Full screen mode.

Once you've made changes, you can either press (CTRL+S) to save your changes or click file>save (at the top left of the window) then close that config file. (Remember to save the changes you made.)

How do I make changes to the game's exe?

First open Steam, find the game then go to its properties, from there look for the "browse file install location" option then select that, a window will pop-up.

Look for "GER.exe" right-click it then select properties>Compatibility tab:
check, run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 8.
check, run this program as administrator.
click apply, click Ok.

BUT DON'T CLOSE THE GAME'S INSTALL FOLDER YET!!

(Now for the part that worked for me)

Go here:

https://www.moddb.com/downloads/directx9-dxvk-d3d9dll

download & unzip that, take the file from the zip & place it into your game's install location, you may get a pop-up that asks if you want to replace the currently existing file. Replace that file.

(You can find it again by: "First open Steam, find the game then go to its properties, from there look for the "browse file install location" option then select that, a window will pop-up.")

That's it you're finished, run the game and you should be good now.

For God Eater 2:

You can follow this guide and it will work for you, the only difference is finding the config-ini file:

AppData>Local>BANDAI NAMCO GAMES>GOD EATER 2 RAGE BURST

Make whatever change to suit your preference:

Fullscreen=0 -windowed mode.

Fullscreen=2 -Full screen mode.

REMEMBER TO SAVE YOUR CHANGES!!

Locate your GOD EATER 2 game within Steam:

First open Steam, find the game then go to its properties, from there look for the "browse file install location" option then select that, a window will pop-up.

Look for "GE2RB.exe" right-click it then select properties>Compatibility tab:
check, run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 8.
check, run this program as administrator.
click apply, click Ok.

Take the same file you downloaded/unzipped from here:

https://www.moddb.com/downloads/directx9-dxvk-d3d9dll

and place it into the GOD EATER 2 install folder. (Unlike GER, you won't get a pop-up asking to replace the file. I didn't.)

after all this, that's it, you're issue should be fixed.

Took me 3 long days....to find a fix that worked for me & hopefully it'll work for you as well.

This was my first time making a guide, so yeah, fingers crossed it worked out for yah.
