Don't try to fight him normally, the game wants you to use spirit bomb but sucks at properly explaining this.

1 Back away when you can and hide behind cover, keeping as much distance as possible.

2 Use the "Lend me your energy" ability (while charging ki its one of the Dpad options)

3 Fully charge and enter sparking mode.

4 You can now use the spirit bomb.

5 Use the spirit bomb.

You have now passed the monkey filter, have fun with the freezer filter.

Bonus general advice: Buy ability capsules at the in game shop, and make sure you equip them to all characters in the customize menu. They can do things like make health higher so don't overlook them.
