Here's how

Launch the game once to generate the Proton prefix.
If you are on Steam Deck or gamescope session, go to Desktop mode.
Go here: ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3130330/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/SEGA/METAPHOR/Steam/[YOUR STEAM ID HERE]/
Copy only the files ending in .sav
Go here: ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2679460/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/SEGA/METAPHOR/Steam/[YOUR STEAM ID HERE]/
Set Steam to offline mode. If you launch the game while online, Steam will overwrite the files you just copied over.
Start the game. Say "yes" to the request to transfer demo save data. After you re-watch or skip the cutscenes, exit the game.
Go back online and try launching the game. When Steam asks you about cloud saves, tell it to use your local saves.

ENJOY PEAK WITH THE 7 HOURS YOU SPENT ON THE DEMO!

If I use cloud saves will it overwrite my demo save I copied over? I never started a new game just launched it so there shouldn’t have been anything uploaded to the cloud prior to my copy over my demo save.

If you can't find ~/.local have the file browser open, in the top right click the 3 lines/burger button and check "Show Hidden Files".

Here's a question - can save files be edited do you think? I named my prologue character something stupid and I'd love to change it.

I've opened one of the save files with the text editor and found plaintext for my character name and my 'real world name' in there, but there is some warning about long text strings...

Maybe I should just try it and see!

It worked! Ty for the guide. I had to delete "system.sav" from the folder below /267... tho
One thing tho, while trying to look up this problem online, some articles said that achievements would be unlocked once the demo save is transfered but I didn't get any. I'm now not sure whether it is supposed to be like that and the article was wrong or whether I messed something up here.
