How to Weld Beam Gaps
By ZombieMouse

Can we fix it?
Sometimes while designing ships in Starbase you will find you need to bridge small gaps between beams. This can be frustrating if you don't know how, but luckily the fix is easy!

Yes we can!
The way to bridge these gaps is with "weld blocks".

You can find them by selecting the weld tool and checking "Large Weld Block", which is the best size for most beam-work.

You can now weld beams together even if the gaps are smaller than the 24cm beam.

Sometimes you might find placement difficult. If so, check the technique below for perfect weld-block placement.
Perfect Weld Blocks
For perfect placement every time, follow these steps:

  • Select the socket tool
  • Place a socket (make sure "separate end placement" is selected in the tool options).
  • Snap it to the end of the beam. Auto-snap (magnet icon) is usually fine for this.
  • turn off snapping and manually move the socket to the centre of the gap.
  • Select the weld block and use the inner square shown on the socket as a guide to perfectly line up the weld block (the innermost square is the same size as a large weld block).
  • Select the socket tool again and right click on the socket to remove it.
Notes
Thank you to AdrianRC for this technique.

Trouble-shooting: If the weld cube shows red for placement then you might need to adjust the position of the socket.

Other methods: There are other ways to fix beam-gaps, such as by colliding beam hit-boxes, but this method is by far the simplest.
