Euro Truck Simulator - How to Add Music Into Your Radio Player
By HippoLays
Hello everyone, I have decided to remake a previously created guide to update it with new information as the old one is far outdated. For the small amount of players that ETS1 still has, I appreciate you checking this guide as I have spent a while working on it. The issue we are covering is how to insert music files into your radio and how to troubleshoot if the file does not play sound.

Downloading Music From YouTube
The proper file extension for Euro Truck Simulator's radio is as a .ogg file. This file type is used to compress the audio files into manageable sizes to be ran in the game. I never download my songs directly as a .ogg (which could be a mistake or an extra security layer), but I download the music into MP4 format.

How To Download your Music as a MP4
To download your songs as an MP4, find what song you want to download on YouTube. After finding your song, go to the URL bar and copy the entire link.

After you have the link copied to your clipboard, go to https://yt1d.com/en16/

Paste your link into the box that is provided. The website does a captcha on your website which is a harmless test to prove your are indeed a human being. (I have never actually had to actual CLICK on the captcha, it always automatically completes). Once the site recognizes your link and loads the download options, select MP4 with the audio icon, NOT the one with the red X. You might have to click this button a couple of times, as the website might come up as restricted to your network. Just close the tab and retry the download until it works.

Congratulations!! You have learned how to download YouTube videos from the web. The next section will go over how to convert your current MP4 file into the file system Euro Truck Sim's music player uses to read your songs (.ogg).

Converting .MP4 to .OGG
To convert an .MP4 file to .OGG using Convertio[convertio.co]. Once you open the website, you are greeted by a "Choose Files" button. Click on the "Choose Files" button and select the .MP4 file(s) you wish to convert from your computer. Convertio can only convert 2 files at a time, and has a daily limit of 10 converted files.

Once the .MP4 file is uploaded, begin the conversion by clicking on the "Convert" button. The website will then process the upload, and convert the file into the format we need for the media player. Once the conversion is complete, a "Download" button will appear, allowing you to download the .OGG file.

After the new .OGG file has completed downloading from the Convertio website, you can close all of your tabs from your web browser. Now that you have the .OGG file, the last section to the first time installation portion of this guide will explain how the process of installing the file into the correct directory within the Euro Truck Simulator game files work and how to do it properly.

Installing The File Into Euro Truck Sim.
The final step to getting your music into Euro Truck Simulator is moving the file to the correct directory. This can become difficult if you are unable to locate the correct folders. The folder that we need is called "Euro Truck Simulator", and is commonly found under the "Documents" portion of the File Explorer.

Once you find the Euro Truck Simulator folder, open it and look for a "music" folder.

Now that you have the correct sub-folder, you can find the downloaded .OGG file and move it into the "Music" folder that was found in the Euro Truck Simulator Directory. You can rename the file to whatever you would like, but do NOT mess with the file extension.
My .OGG File Won't Play Ingame - Troubleshooting
What happened to my file?
This is a common problem that happens during either the downloading from YT1D, or from the conversion. Most of the time it is 100% accidental and was not even caused by you (the downloader).

What else could have caused this?
There is primarily only two things that I have found, that could have caused this to happen outside of an everyday software error.
  • IMPATIENCE
  • Misclicking
If you don't understand what I mean when I say impatience, it is generally when someone (the downloader) goes into their File Explorer after downloading the .MP4 file and changes the .MP4 file format into a .OGG without using a converter. This screws up the encoding on the .MP4 file and makes the file unreadable in this unconverted .OGG format.

How do I fix this issue?
To fix this issue it is quite simple, just restart the process from the beginning of this guide. It is the simplest solution there is for a problem like this. You could always try turning the file back into a .MP4 and just using Convertio again but there is a chance you are just wasting time waiting for it to convert again. 99% of the time when I restart the entire process again the song is successfully converted the second time and there is no problems with the .OGG file again.
I can't find where to put my Files - Troubleshooting
Simple Solution
If you can't find where your downloaded files go, it is a quick fix. Open your File Explorer, click on the "This PC" section on the left hand side toolbar, and find the search bar in the top right corner. Once found, type "Euro Truck Simulator" and push Enter.

After the search is complete, you should have a few results. If you can read the directory path and see the one that is in your Documents Folder, GREAT! If you do not, here is an example of the correct folder to open, and what the inside should look like.

Conclusion
I hope that this ends up helping some people who are coming new to the game after it's community shrinking so much over time. I put a good bit of effort into typing this up and trying to explain everything correctly but if anything needs changed or you find something that is incorrect please do not hesitate to let me know.

Thank You,
HippoLays

Thanks for posting this! I play ETS on a Linux distro, and I've been trying to track down where the music folder is stored since I don't have the typical Windows directory setup. One of your screenshots contains the file name `eurotrucks.log`, so I was able to find the right folder by searching my steamapps folder for that file. So this guide ended up being really helpful even though I don't use Windows!

As a handy tip: VLC Media Player is also able to convert audiofiles to .ogg
