Introduction
My goal is to make this guide as simple to follow and as accurate as possible, it's good to remember that we all make mistakes, even those who push to be perfect.

If this guide helped you it would be heavily appreciated if you liked, favorited or commented on it!

If you're feeling charitable feel free to give me some steam points ~ check below to learn how!

Optimized Settings
Avowed is a new game so these settings will be subject to change. I will do my best to change them when an update comes out. If I miss a notable change please let me know! I will do my best to test it myself and add it to this guide. I try my best to update all of my guides as frequently as needed.

As far as overall performance goes, Avowed seems to be a pretty well optimized game but it still suffers from some of the usual Unreal Engine 5 issues and quirks.

Window Mode - Windowed Fullscreen
VSync - Off (On for some users)
Ray Tracing - On if you can afford it, Off for most users
Upscaling - AMD FidelityFX 3 / NVIDIA DLSS3/4
FSR Super Resolution (AMD)- Quality is the best bang for buck. Balanced is fine too. Anything lower and the image begins to degrade heavily.
FSR Sharpness (AMD) - 100%
DLSS Super Resolution Quality (Nvidia) - Balanced
Reflex Low Latency (Nvidia) - On
View Distance - High
Shadow Quality - Medium
Texture Quality - High
Shading Quality - Medium
Effects Quality - High
Foliage Quality - High
Post Processing Quality - Medium
Reflection Quality - Low
Global Illumination Quality - High

Steam Deck Optimized Settings
Unfortunately while Avowed is certainly playable at around 30 FPS the image quality takes a monumental hit on the deck. My recommendation would be to follow the below settings, however if you would like to increase performance at the cost of some frames tinker with Texture Quality and Post Processing Quality a little bit and that could help.

Window Mode - Windowed Fullscreen
VSync - Off
Ray Tracing - Off
Upscaling - AMD FidelityFX 3 / NVIDIA DLSS3/4
FSR Super Resolution (AMD) - Balanced or Performance
FSR Sharpness (AMD) - Player choice here, start at 50% and move your way up.
View Distance - Low
Shadow Quality - Low
Texture Quality - Low
Shading Quality - Low
Effects Quality - Low
Foliage Quality - Low
Post Processing Quality - Low
Reflection Quality - Low
Global Illumination Quality - Low

Finally be sure that you do the following:

1. Enter the game's properties
2. Head over to the "Compatibility" tab
3. Enable "Proton Hotfix"

This will ensure that if there are any deck oriented fixes you will get them first.
Skip Intro Fix
If you'd like to skip the intros on Avowed you can do the following:

1. Head on over to this link[www.nexusmods.com]
2. Select 'Files' next to 'Description'
3. Select 'Manual Download'
4. Unzip the file and head on over to where your game is downloaded, normally located at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Avowed
5. Copy the 'Alabama' file in your download and paste it in the above location.
6. When asked to replace the files located in this location, select 'Replace the files in the destination'
Closing Remarks

Donations would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much for reading my guide!!

Where is the engine .ini file? I'm on windows 11 and can't find it.
H4kka1 19 Feb @ 7:42am
You can add these lines to the engine.ini file of the game:

[SystemSettings]
r.FidelityFX.FI.Enabled=1
r.FidelityFX.FSR3.Enabled=1
r.FidelityFX.FSR3.UseNativeDX12=1
r.FidelityFX.FSR3.FrameGeneration.AutoTC=1
r.FidelityFX.FSR3.GPULatencyReduction=1
r.OneFrameThreadLag=0
r.FinishCurrentFrame=1

This manually enables Frame Generation and the anti-input lag feature, which can sometimes help with latency issues.
For me, this boosted my FPS from 58 (everything on low) to 120 (everything on high) with zero input lag. I couldn’t believe it at first.
I’m on AMD, so I’m not sure if this works on other hardware.

Sorry for the English, I'm Brazilian!

Also apologies for missing your message Cythal. This sounds like a pretty severe corruption issue or possibly something related to your drivers. My best advice is to do a clean reinstall of the game and if that doesn’t work to check your drivers and update them. If they are updated maybe try using DDU to rollback to the previous version.

RSR no offense but I want to put aside the time to respond to people who actually need help with the issues listed, if you have an academic critique please message me instead. Thank you.

As far as your issue goes Chincha, depth of field all the way down is the most I could get as far as blur goes. I too notice it but I’m not entirely sure how to fix it. I’ll do some testing tonight!
Chincha 18 Feb @ 12:07pm
Have you found anything for the blurryness of the game? It hurts my eyes/head. I'm sad this game suffers from it much like many others. I have tried reshade, switching DLSS version to newest, Using DLAA. Nothing. Even with upscaling off it makes no difference. It all looks almost "out of focus" as someone said on a Reddit thread asking the same.

this may be misleading for people with an AMD cpu and nvidia graphics.
AMD doesn't make video cards, AMD owns radeon (formerly ATI).
If this seems pedantic, i admit it kind of is, but how would you react if i said microsoft made avowed? i'm sure someone would correct me on that statement.

I keep crashing with Dx12, AMD 7700 XT. With Dx11, FSR only loads the UI. TSR works but with very poor performance. Have to lower everything to low and it still stutters. Upscalling Off makes produces negative image with no water loaded and all textures washed out white, no colour. I was hoping for a day 1 patch but it is almost 3 hours to Launch.
