Introduction
With the new Steam Families feature, players can share their game libraries with up to six family members in a more seamless and flexible way than traditional Steam Family Sharing. If someone in your Steam Family owns Rocket League, you can play it on your own account without purchasing it. This guide will walk you through how to set up Steam Families and access Rocket League through it.
Requirements
  • A family member who owns Rocket League on Steam.
  • A Steam account with Steam Guard enabled.
  • A computer with Steam installed.
  • A Steam Family Group set up with the owner of Rocket League.
Step 1: Creating a Steam Family Group
  1. Open Steam and go to Settings.
  2. Navigate to the Family section.
  3. Click Create a New Family.
  4. Invite up to five other family members by entering their Steam usernames or emails.
  5. Once they accept the invitation, they will be part of your Steam Family.
Step 2: Enabling Game Library Sharing
  1. The owner of Rocket League must go to Settings > Family.
  2. Under Family Library Sharing, enable game sharing with the family group.
  3. Once enabled, members of the family group will have access to the owner's library, including Rocket League.
Step 3: Accessing Rocket League on Your Account
  1. Log into your own Steam account.
  2. Navigate to your Library.
  3. Rocket League should now appear as part of the shared library.
  4. Click Install and wait for the download to complete.
  5. Once installed, launch the game and start playing!
Important Notes
  • Simultaneous Play: Multiple family members can play different games from the shared library at the same time, but only one person can play Rocket League at a time.
  • Restrictions on Changing Families: If you leave a Steam Family, you must wait one year before joining or creating another one.
  • Bans & Cheating: If a family member is banned for cheating in a shared game, it may impact the game owner’s account as well.
  • DLC & Purchases: While base games are shared, DLC may not be available unless purchased on your own account.
Troubleshooting
  • Rocket League is not showing up in the library
    • Ensure that the owner properly enabled game sharing in Steam Families.
    • Restart Steam and check again.
  • Unable to play due to another user playing
    • Remember that only one person at a time can play Rocket League from a shared account.
  • Game is locked or unplayable
    • Check if the game owner is actively playing Rocket League. If they are, you won’t be able to access it.
