By Rikimaru
Just a small collection of in-game settings I recommend you change before you play, for a better Zed-blasting experience.

Note: This is a Closed Beta.

Yes, some systems are baked into the game already but things you may or may not like can still change and further optimisation is pretty much a given. Just make sure you send your feedback to a developer instead of venting in online forums otherwise, nothing will change.

I remember KF2 felt bare-bones when it was in Beta too. There was no Dosh Vault or Weeklies and there was barely a Store back then too!

Also, the mission to collect the samples is unfinished. You've done everything right, but there is no Testing Chamber in the game yet so the objective is just stuck there. Feel free to unpin it from your screen in the Assignments tab - Missions menu!
Graphics / Visuals

Of course set to your own preference and ability - do note that this beta app is not very well optimised.

- Some people have reported that turning Lumen off gave them a lot higher FPS. Havent tested it myself, but worth a mention.

- I always turn Motion Blur and Depth of Field off. I like crisp looking graphics over blurry.

- Set your FOV! It's defaulted to a nice 90. I think in KF2 I used 95 or 100.
The reason I recommend this is for both immersion and for widening what you can see, so you can catch those sneaky zeds or cover two doors at a time.
It's hard to explain, but a thing I do to test my FOV is walk into a wall or look down at my character's shoes and decide if I'm realistically against the wall / have the perspective that the camera is in my head / feel like I'm in my character's boots and not ahead or behind them.

- I'd recommend turning the Crosshair off. Why?
Firstly, you'll see more. I find that my eyes focus on the crosshair and I tend to get tunnel vision. Especially bright and bulky crosshairs, it's like putting a hand in front of my face. Without a crosshair, I'm more aware of my surroundings.
Secondly, you'll get better at the game. You'll actually see the spread your weapon produces and you'll be able to take that into account when you're blasting.

- I also turn off Hit Markers for the same reason. I dont need extra feedback for every bullet hit. I want to SEE the bullet hitting the enemy. The game feels slick without it.

- Solo players dont need to worry about this one! Another user I spoke to recommends you turn off Character Highlight too. I think it highlights other players through walls. I havent tried it so maybe players here can speak up on what they prefer and I'll edit this part. I imagine it's just one less thing that's on screen.

- Turn screen shake on. For some reason mine was off by default. This makes the game feel like it has more impact and is more dynamic on the player instead of just being a still screen the whole time.

- If you're struggling with performance, I and a lot of other players are reporting unoptimisation and stutter. I turned everything to High (not max), with Shadows and Textures down to Medium. While I had some noticable texture pop-in, I was able to play and it didn't look all that bad.

- After all else fails, consider going into your graphics card provider's application and changing things there. I havent changed much but I play with sharpness turned up 20% as well as Contrast and Saturation up a little bit for darker shadows and vibrant colours.
Controls

- Be sure to adjust your mouse sensitivity!
You can go into the Armoury's Firing Range in the main hub area to test your settings and all the weapons.
Armoury location: Facing the VTOL, it's to the right beside some crates. The Firing Range is inside.

- Set your preferred Crouch, Sprint, Aim toggles

- Crouch key is already bound to both 'C' and 'CTRL' so you may not have to change it.

- You can Ping things for other players! I think the default is ALT.

- Another setting I recommend changing is the Dash key.
It's bound to the same button as the sprint key, and I prefer to have it separate so it's less jittery-looking when I start sprinting.
Sound Mixing
My settings for most games are usually like this:
- Master and Music: 100%
- Sound Effects: 80% to 90%
- Voices: 70% to 80%

In this game, it's much the same, except I turn Voices off sometimes.
Mainly because I know what's happening in-game without them.
But also because the lines of dialogue aren't that interesting and they didnt bring back the voice actor for Foster so I didn't think it was worth listening to after the first few matches with each character.

Since there are only a few settings, it really is up to you what you prefer.
If you prefer to play online, you might want to keep voices on to hear people calling for ammo or giving orders.
I prefer to enjoy the music and guns/horror sounds.

Hopefully they add the ability to change voice line frequency! I really liked playing with a low frequency in KF2.
My Recorded Gameplay
Bonus: You get materials by shooting things
I found shooting things like computers and screens gave Biosteel.

I wonder if shooting specific Zeds give specific loot.
Bonus: Red Orchestra 2 and Man Eater Easter Egg
Bonus: Executing a Fleshpound

Simply damage until it stumbles back and goes into a downed animation (kneeling down, head bowed) and press the promt to EXECUTE.

Just try not to kill it too early.

And try not to be too late to the window of opportunity or you'll run up to it as it's getting back up!

I think you can execute Skrakes too. Not sure about the others.

No, I read it carefully and in my message I indicated that you “recommend” turning it on. It’s surprising to me that someone really likes this option, because many people can’t stand it and get sick of it. And people like me get annoyed when you can’t shoot someone point-blank because of the jumping camera. :steamsad:

@J yeah I dislike on-rails feeling camera. Makes me feel like I'm playing an arcade game.

I also said "Of course, set to your own preference and ability" but I think you missed that part. :eagletear:

:steamfacepalm:

The fleshpounds execution looks like it was ripped straight from Doom Eternal with the Mancubus.

I would love to know what button preset you used for the dash because I don't want the key to be super far away from my left hand.
