Roll back | Return | Reversion to 24th July Version
By 2hot4u
A Guide that helps to revert back to the "old" version before the official modloader release and before the drastic modding system changes.
For all languages and without missing out on the chatter dialogues etc. [basically [b]the proper way[/b] to revert the game version]

Introduction
This is a guide to fully return to the "old" version (to 24th July 2024), before the 2025 update.

Since 30 January 2025 the game has a very different structure, therefore, not all, but a lot of mods, that used to work before broke.
It is possible to revert to an older version of the game though, so that old mods continue to work.
It's quite a process and I know the guide might look overwhelming, but worry not!
Here is the guide to keep you covered, made to be followed with ease!
Preperation
  • Make sure to have enough disk space on your drive or the drive where you copy the files later.
  • Make a backup of your current gamefiles, just in case, but not necessarily needed but advisable.
  • Be sure to have enough space for the upcoming downloads and files we will need.
Caution: Keeping it all on the same Disk will need 140-155 GB's + The game Directory itself (70gb) + (eventually your current game's Backup)
[For the exact sizes of the downloaded files, see the provided image at the end of Step #2 further below]
{If you have the space it is maybe adviseable to keep the depots you will download later, just in case you might need them any time in future}
Step #1:
  • Make a shortcut to steam on your desktop. Right click it and go to properties.
  • In the field "Target:" put -console at the end (...\Steam.exe" -console) [there is a space after the " before -console]
  • Make sure Steam is not running, then double click the shortcut to start up steam and login to your account.
  • There should now be an option like | shop | libarry | community | that says | console |.
Step #2:
  • Go to console and type in the first command from the columns down below and wait until it's downloaded. (It wont show any progress, but will give an entry when it finished)
  • Cut and Paste the new folder you just got into another place or rename it.
(Location of the downloaded folder is displayed in your steamconsole, like in the image below the columns, usually ...\steam\steamapps\content\)
  • Then execute the next command, wait until it's downloaded and repeat.
  • (Download one of each column, pick only your desired language Depots)
(not multiple languages, only one language)!
*[so 2 big depots and 2 language depots = 4 downloads]
  • Don't forget to move it to a folder of its own!

[picture below is an example for downloaded folders backup referring to german setup]
Step #3:
So what we are going to do next is copy the versions of the game files which you would have had when you were running the 24July2024 version of the game:
The Tabelpicture is a reference to the following Procedure Guide, (although it's based on German depots, so some pakchunk file names can vary)

You'll need to copy the right files from the right folders into your ...\steamapps\content folder, when it asks to replace, press Ok.

Basically you can just follow the guide blindly though
(But in case you are getting confused, below the Procedure Guide you see the exact names for the pakchunk files)

Once you've downloaded all the depots you need to copy the files as follows:

Procedure:
Let's say you did the first download download_depot 990080 990081 5173511114843368548 then moved all the files into a new folder you created, called 5173511114843368548...
Now go to "...\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy" Delete the HogwartsLegacy.exe, the Engine- and the Phoenix Folder.
Then copy the HogwartsLegacy.exe, the Engine- and Phoenix Folder from the 5173511114843368548 folder to "...\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy"
Next copy global.ucas, global.utoc from 2079568548454530274 to ...\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\
Go to 8800687371274275755 and copy the pakchunk- .ucas and .utoc files to ...\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\ (that are 4 files in total)
Finally copy the pakchunk .pak files from 6771786275718031616 to ...\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Phoenix\Content\Paks\ (that are 2 files in total)
Here is a List of the different namings for the pakchunk files, depending on the different languages, contained in 8800687371274275755 and 6771786275718031616:
(both depots, each contain an .ucas, an .utoc and a .pak fileversion of the listed pakchunks):
English: pakchunk1 and pakchunk11 French: pakchunk5 and pakchunk15 German: pakchunk2 and pakchunk12 Spain: pakchunk3 and pakchunk13 Lat.America: pakchunk4 and pakchunk14 Italian: pakchunk6 and pakchunk16 Japanese: pakchunk7 and pakchunk17 Port.Brazil: pakchunk8 and pakchunk18
End
Boot up your game, it should now say 1235957 on the bottom of the titlescreen where it says Hogwarts.

If this is the case, then you did everything right. You should now also hear dialogues that npcs around are having in the background.
Well done!
Now you can use your old mods or install some new old mods, that have never been portet to the new version.
Outro
I hope this guide helps people to get ALL the important Conversation FILES needed, so you don't miss out on anything.
(I know there are other guides out there, but most of them are wrong and you will miss out on some dialogue files)

Huge thanks to "ifonlythatweretrue" who provided all the critical info and important know-how, the guide wouldn't have been possible without him.
