Disclaimer: This is what worked for me. It might not work for everyone, since every PC setup is a little different. Still, after trying a bunch of things, this was the only solution that gave me smooth, consistent performance, so I figured it was worth sharing in case it helps someone else.


If you're experiencing stuttering, micro-freezes, or sudden FPS drops while playing Batman: Arkham City or Arkham Asylum, especially on a 144Hz or high refresh rate monitor — this guide might help. What you’ll read here is based on personal experience after trying multiple fixes that didn’t really solve the issue.


The issue

Even with high FPS, the game would constantly stutter when moving quickly through the city. The 1% low FPS dropped to 17, 19, sometimes 24; making the gameplay feel inconsistent and choppy.

I tried everything: editing .ini files, tweaking the BmGame folder, changing settings in the Nvidia Control Panel... nothing worked reliably.

What actually fixed it
In the end, a simple adjustment made all the difference:

• Set the monitor to 60Hz instead of 144Hz.
  
  
• Enable V-Sync in the game's video settings.

After doing that, the game ran smoothly at a steady 60 FPS, with far fewer stutters and a noticeably better frametime.

How to apply this setup
1. Change monitor refresh rate to 60Hz:

• Right-click on your desktop and go to Display settings.
  
• Scroll down and click on Advanced display settings.
  
• Under “Refresh rate,” select 60Hz.
  
• Apply the change.

2. Enable V-Sync in the game:

• Launch Batman: Arkham City or Arkham Asylum.
  
• Go to the Video or Graphics settings menu.
  
• Turn on V-Sync.

Results
This simple change fixed the problem for me. The game now runs consistently at 60 FPS with much smoother frametime, and without the constant stuttering I had before.

Even unlocking the FPS or disabling SmoothFramerate didn’t bring the same stability. For my setup, lowering the refresh rate and using V-Sync made the biggest difference.
