Welcome to the achievement guide for The Gunk! In this guide, you’ll find a detailed overview of all the game’s achievements along with helpful tips for unlocking them. They’re not difficult to obtain, and all of them can be earned in a single playthrough.

✴️ㅤWhile playing, try to collect all resources you come across — you’ll need them to install upgrades for your multitool.

✳️ㅤI also recommend using the scanner frequently to unlock new upgrades, discover additional objects, and expand your encyclopedia.

✴️ㅤBefore heading back to the Garden for the final encounter with the Gardener, make sure you have 57 entries in your encyclopedia — the final entry will be added after scanning the Gardener. Also, ensure you’ve unlocked all remaining achievements, as this is the endgame section.

Five unique achievements that require you to complete simple challenges. For each one, I’ve included tips to help you unlock them with ease.

Two Birds With One

Threw one on another

The easiest way to complete this challenge is by using the Gunk Critter. Just grab one and throw it into another. You can do this during your first encounter with them. For convenience, I’ve added a video guide.

Charge Off

Make one charge off a cliff

To unlock this achievement, you need to push an enemy off a cliff. This can be done early in the game or a bit later. Stand near the edge and, as the Gunk Critter jumps at you, step back — it will fall off the ledge. I’ve included a video guide for your convenience.

Three's a Crowd

Blasted three to smithereens

To earn this achievement, you’ll need the “Power Pulse” upgrade. Once installed, quickly defeat three Gunk Critter in succession using the [E] blast attack. I did this during my second visit to the Garden. A video guide is available for reference.

Slip One Past

Grabbed an unaware Gunk Spitter

To get this achievement, sneak up on a Gunk Spitter and grab it with your glove without using [RMB]. Then pull it out of the ground.

If you’re spotted, catch the projectile it spits and throw it back at it. Then quickly move behind it — once it recovers, grab and pull it out. I’ve added a video guide to help you out.

Take Charge

Made one charge into another

In Chapter 7 — “Solitude” — after the second Oasis, you’ll come across three Gunk Beast patrolling an area. To unlock this achievement, you need to make them collide with each other.

I did it using a lure [C] — just throw it between them, and they’ll do the rest. Here’s a video guide to help.

[⚙️]ㅤUpgrades

To unlock the following achievements, you’ll need to upgrade your multitool. New upgrades will become available as you scan more objects throughout the world.

Give me Five

Installed five upgrades

This achievement is fairly easy to unlock. As you progress through the story, you’ll collect enough resources to install at least five upgrades without much trouble.

All In

Installed all upgrades

To install all upgrades, you’ll need a significant amount of resources. I recommend exploring every area thoroughly and collecting as many resources as you can.

Before heading to the Garden for the final showdown with the Gardener, make sure all upgrades are installed. If you haven’t done this yet, place a signal beacon near the entrance to the arena and use the teleport to revisit earlier areas and gather any remaining resources.

[🩻]ㅤScanning

There are two achievements related to scanning the environment — including fauna, characters, enemies, and various objects like structures and interactable elements. I recommend using the scanner frequently so you don’t miss anything.

Learning on the Go

Scanned fifteen objects

There are 58 unique objects to scan in the game, but you only need to scan 15 of them to unlock this achievement. You’ll likely get it naturally as you play.

Space Archaeologist

Filled the encyclopedia

To earn this achievement, you must find and scan all 58 unique objects in the game. The final entry in the encyclopedia is the Gardener, and you can scan him during the final boss fight.

Before heading to the Garden for the second time for the final showdown with the Gardener, make sure your encyclopedia has 57 entries. You can also check your Steam achievement tracker — it should show 98 out of 100.
