Introduction - About the Guide
This delicious anchovy pizza of a game is actually fairly linear. But you can easily miss out on some special items, quests, or even get stuck, not knowing where to go.

That's what I intend to help with.
Introduction - Tips You Must Know
Before we begin, I'll presume you'll already know all of this.
  1. Don't skip mobs. Fight everything.
More battles = more EXP = more techs unlocked = easier progression. It snowballs fast.
  2. Keep equipment updated.
Always buy new weapons and armor when possible. Don't use old ♥♥♥♥. If you're low on funds, grind enemies.
  3. Loot smart.
There are chests that exist in both 600 A.D. and 1000 A.D. Interact with them in the past, and open them in the future for upgraded items.
  4. Learn enemy strengths and weaknesses.
Pay attention to elemental affinities. Some enemies absorb certain elements, others take massive damage from them.
  5. Charm enemies often.
Ayla’s Charm skill can steal rare gear, tabs, and MegaElixirs.
  6. Use Tabs wisely.
Don’t waste Magic Tabs on Magus. Prioritize characters who benefit most and won't cap the stat naturally.
  7. Keep a balanced party.
Have at least one healer, one strong physical attacker, and one strong magic user. Avoid mono-magic teams in anti-magic zones.
  8. Have fun.
This game was made to be explored, replayed, and enjoyed. Don’t stress; enjoy the ride. Use this guide only when you're stuck... I never meant for anyone to BLINDLY follow it.
Present - The Beginning
Let's begin!

Beginning of the Game - Present - 1000 A.D.
  • Leave your home and go north to Leene Square.

  • After arriving, you can (not necessary) grind Silver Points:
Footraces: Bet on a runner → 20 pts if correct
Ring the Bell: Time your A press → 1 pt
    Soda Chugging: Mash A → 5 pts
Fight Gato: Beat him → 15 pts + early EXP
    Dance Show: Just for fun
Bekkler’s House of Horrors: (top-right of races)
      • 10 pts – Guess the person → Music Doll, cat food
      • 20 pts – Copy moves → Clone (or 10 oz. cat food)
      • 40 pts – Save person from fire → Get cats
  • Go all the way up and you'll bump into Marle. Your reaction affects a trial later on:
      • Bad boy: bump into her, grab pendant first, don’t ask, say YES fast
      • Good boy: let her hit you, ask if she’s okay, give back pendant nicely

  • Speaking of trial, these are the variables:
      • Bad boy: eat food on the table, scare cat, try to sell pendant, interrupt candy choosing
      • Good boy: return cat, don’t touch food, refuse to sell pendant, let her shop

  • Go see Lucca’s machine.
Past - Events After Time Machine
Forest before Guardia Castle
  • Fight everything, grab loot
  • Far right: Power Tab
  • Rustling bush (top): infinite tents
  • Rest at Inn if needed
At the castle
  • Go NE tower → “Leene” vanishes
  • Lucca shows up, explains plot
Visit Cathedral west of Guardia Castle
  • Talk to “nuns” → they’re monsters
  • Frog joins after fight
  • Play organ to unlock Mystic’s lair
Explore thoroughly
  • Bottom-left room: Naga-Ette Bromide
  • Right room: Magus statue + treasure
  • Hit all switches to unlock doors
  • Save at star → play 2nd organ → boss fight
  • Grab chests after boss, return to castle
  • Frog leaves → head back to mountain path
Present - Events After Rescuing Marle
Back in 1000 A.D.
  • Lucca uses key = return to your own era
  • Take Marle to Guardia Castle → Trial begins
  • Your choices at the fair decide how the trial plays out
  • But either way... you’re sentenced to death (lol)
You’re in prison with 3 days left
  • Drink from the mug = full heal
  • If you were found innocent = grab free Ether
  • Wait for rescue or harass guards to trigger your escape (the latter’s better)
While escaping
  • Side room = expensive sword from fair
  • Rescue the guillotine guy = reward later
  • Fight your way through a big, simple maze
  • Boss: Dragon Tank → destroy in order: Head → Wheels → Body
  • Push past guards at the gate → enter the next Time Portal

Available Time Gates:
  • 1000 A.D. – Medina Village
  • 2300 A.D. – Proto Dome
  • 65,000,000 B.C. – Mystic Mountains
If you want to break a sweat in exchange for breaking the game's difficulty, go to 65,000,000 B.C, as enemies are just strong enough for you to be able to beat them, but overleved enough for them to be an excellent XP farm.
You're supposed to start with 1000 A.D., though, as instructed by Gaspar
Events After End of Time
Medina – Arrive in Medina Village (1000 A.D.)
  • Exit the closet, ignore shops (they’re overpriced)
  • If you have enough money, buy Crono's saber. You'll mow through enemies with it for half the game.
  • Southwest: visit Melchior (new gear)
  • North cave = magic-based enemies → don’t use physical attacks
  • Collect items, then fight boss (don’t hit when he says “hit me”)
  • After battle, continue to whirlpool → warp to Lucca’s house
  • Optional: visit Crono’s house, Truce Market (discount), and Mayor’s Manor for loot

  • Charge it at Mammon Machine (left chamber)
  • Dalton appears → summons Golem Boss
     – Stealable item
     – Weak to Magic
     – Don’t stress: you’re supposed to lose

Endgame Cleanup - Information
Turning point of the game:
We've just finished the structured, story-driven portion of the game—the segment where events had to be followed in a set sequence to progress.

From here on out, the experience becomes non-linear.

Depending on what you choose to explore or accomplish next:
  1. you might be only halfway through,
  2. or you're 10min away from the Credits' roll.

Up next I'll BRIEFLY mention what you can still do.
(again, this is a guide for brainrotted people)

But everything ahead is entirely up to you: wander the world, seek out secrets and influence the future in small ways, or make a beeline for Lavos and challenge him right away.
Endgame Cleanup - Main Sidequests
The following is presented in no specific order and can be tackled however you like.

There are 8 main things you can do as a cleanup, before tackling Lavos. TLDR:

1. Crono’s Resurrection – Rewind Fate

  • Go to 600 A.D. → fly there via Epoch
  • Enter castle → Ozzie flees

  • Go to 600 A.D. → visit Fiona’s Villa
  • Enter desert whirlpool (bring Frog/Marle + strong melee unit)
  • Use Water/Ice magic to harden the boss’s sand → hit hard → repeat
  • After battle, Robo offers to restore the forest → agree
  • Visit him again in 1000 A.D. → campfire scene triggers
  • Optional: Lucca enters time portal → stop her mom’s accident
     – Enter password: L A R A

  • Victory = Robo earns:
     – Terra Arm (best damage overall)
     – Crisis Arm (huge power when Robo is at 10 HP)

6. The Sun Stone
  • Ask Lucca at End of Time → add her to the party
  • Equip Red Mail, Red Vest, Ruby Armor (65M B.C. trades)
  • Go to Sun Palace – 2300 A.D.
  • Boss: Son of Sun

  • Learn of Giant’s Claw (aka Tyrano Lair from 65M B.C.) in 600 A.D.
  • Redo the dungeon (yes, it’s harder now)
  • Find the Rainbow Shell
  • Tell King Guardia (600 A.D.) → he stores it for 400 years
  • Now go to 1000 A.D. → put Marle in your party
  • Enter Guardia Castle → king is on trial for “selling” the shell
  • Go to new wing, grab a sample → bring it to court
  • Fight Yakra XIII in courtroom
  • Melchior appears and crafts:
     – 3 Prism Helms (status immune, +9 def)
     – or 1 Prism Dress (great defense, cuts magic damage)
  • If you also got the Sun Stone:
     – Rainbow (Lucca’s best weapon – 70% crit chance)
     – Prism Specs (damage booster)

⚠️⚠️⚠️ WARNING ⚠️⚠️⚠️ The next one will trigger the game's ending sequence. I'm listing it as a "sidequest" because you can totally miss it and just fight Lavos from the bucket at the End of Time.

8. The Final Dungeon – Black Omen
  • The Ocean Palace now floats as the Black Omen
  • Appears in all eras except 1999 A.D. and 12000 B.C.
  • Fly the Epoch into it to enter

Endgame Cleanup - Ultimate Equipment
If you wanna tackle Lavos with the best drip, this is a quick guide for all of the game's ultimate equipment, and where to find the best of the best!
  • Safe Helm
Location: Forest Ruins, 600 A.D. (north of Medina). After visiting 12000 B.C., touch the glowing pyramid with the charged amulet. Choose the “protection” item when prompted.
Extra: You can Charm another from Lavos Spawn shell in the Black Omen.

  • Nova Armor
Location: Found during Cyrus’s Ghost sidequest and in Black Omen chests.
Best method: Charm from Goon enemies inside the Black Omen.

  • Prism Dress
Location: Reward from the Rainbow Shell quest. Choose it instead of the 3 Prism Helms when talking to Melchior.
Bonus: Charm an additional one from Queen Zeal’s hand in the final battle.

  • Prism Helm
Location: Option from Rainbow Shell quest (not recommended), or Charm from Queen Zeal’s other hand.

Location: First one is in the sealed door chest at Trann Dome, 2300 A.D.

    Robo’s best weapons.
    Found during the Genodome sidequest.

  • Doomsickle
    Magus’s final weapon.
Location: Hidden room in Ozzie’s Fort. After the treasure chest trap room, check the wall directly under the stairs for a hidden passage with the Doomsickle and other loot.
Final Boss - LAVOS
Now you're good to go.
You can fight Lavos either by doing the last sidequest I listed above, or by just interacting with the bucket at the End of Time.

Regardless of which one you choose, brace for the final batle!

Recommended Setup:
[Party] Crono / Magus / Marle

[Equipment]
Crono: Rainbow / Safe Helm / Nova Armor / Gold Stud
Magus: Doom Sickle / Safe Helm / Nova Armor / Gold Stud
Marle: Valkerye / Prism Helm / Prism Dress / Gold Stud

Prep Phase:
Once you regain control, heal up, switch out characters if needed, and be ready. When you’re set, approach Lavos to begin.

Phase 1 – Lavos: Form of All Bosses (HP varies by form)
Lavos mimics the following past bosses:
  • Dragon Tank
  • Guardian
  • Heckran
  • Zombor
  • Masamune

  • Azala & Black Tyrano
  • Giga Gaia

Each form behaves exactly like the original. Reuse prior strategies. You’ll get a chance to re-equip and heal between each.
Final mimic phase is Lavos himself. Use DarkMatter and Ice Sword 2 for quick damage.

Phase 2 – Lavos: Shell Form (Main Body + Arms)
[HP]
Lavos: 20,000
Left Arm: 8,000
Right Arm: 10,000 (heals main body)

Strategy:
  • Use: DarkMatter, Ice Sword 2
  • Target right arm first (healer), then left. Only then can you damage the main body.
  • The fight shouldn't be a problem if your gear’s up to date.

Phase 3 – Lavos: True Core
[HP]
Main Body: 10,000 (dangerous spells)
Left Pod: 2,000 (heals body, immune to magic)
Right Pod: 30,000 (actual core – kill this to win)

Strategy:
  • Kill Left Pod first with physical attacks
  • Use Luminaire + DarkMatter to chip all parts
  • When Right Pod drops shield, focus fire it
  • Use Haste on Marle → then on everyone
  • Heal as needed, don’t hoard items here

Be aware: Right Pod can revive the others. Repeat the pattern until it falls.

Victory!
You did it. Lavos is down. The world is saved (probably).
Conclusion
Congratulations on finishing one of the best games of all time!

Now, please go do something about that brainrot.

Title pissed me off but this is actually an incredible guide, really thorough and the only good reference to find out where you’re at if you put the game down real quick and need to reference something without spoilers. thank you
