📂 Save files issues
In Spirit City, there is a save files backup system, that automatically keeps a record of your save files for every day that the game is opened.

This is a great help in resolving issues from users that suddenly
  • Experienced a crash/power outage and lost data (e.g. levels, spirits, purchased items)
  • Opened the game while Steam was offline and your cloud saves went out of sync
You can easily access your save files from the in-game menu using the "Open folder" buttons.
The "Open folder" buttons in-game open these paths:
Windows: C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\SpiritCity\Saved\SaveGames
Mac: /Users/YourUsername/Library/Application Support/Epic/SpiritCity/Saved

Each part of your progress is stored in its own save file. Here are the most common ones:
  • SCLS_Progression.sav - Spiritographer Level and Credits
  • SCLS_Avatar.sav - Avatar Presets and Wardrobe Purchases
  • SCLS_Room.sav - Room Presets and Room Item Purchases
  • SCLS_Spiritdex.sav - Unlocked Spirits and Spirit Skins
  • SCLS_Journal.sav - Journal Entries
  • Etc ...
Repairing your save files
  • Make sure the game is closed
  • Browse to the SaveGamesBackup folder, and select a folder (named by date)
  • Copy all (or part of) the content of the backup folder from a day before the issue happened
  • Paste the save files inside the SaveGames folder
  • Re-open the game
That's it! The game will reload with the data from the backup, potentially fixing your issue.
If the issue still persists, try selecting a backup from a prior date.

If no backups are available, please check for other save related issues in this guide. Otherwise, you can reach out to support@mooncubegames.com or join our discord server at http://discord.gg/spiritcitylofi
- Game is back to level 1
Repair your save files by replacing SCLS_Progression.sav with a backup from a prior date.
- Missing Spirits / Empty Spiritdex
Repair your save files by replacing SCLS_Spiritdex.sav with a backup from a prior date.
- Missing purchases in Avatar customization
Repair your save files by replacing SCLS_Avatar.sav with a backup from a prior date.
- Game cannot save
Some players can experience an issue where the game never seems to save. In which case, it would be obvious as the player would have to play the tutorial over and over again. Also, the in-game buttons would not be able to open the save file folder. This is due to a Windows permission settings issue.

You can either try to simply run the game as Administrator, or alternatively, follow these steps.
  • On Windows, create a folder manually in AppData/Local named SpiritCity
  • It should look like this. C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\SpiritCity
  • Right-click the folder, open "properties" and make sure that the folder permissions are all set to Allow.
- Game lost some progress
Some players can experience an issue where there is a regression in their Spiritographer level, number of Spirit Credits, purchases they've done in the past couple play sessions, while they can still progress normally.

This is often caused by players who start the game from a desktop shortcut icon, or from the taskbar, while Steam is still offline. Doing so prevents Steam from properly syncing save files to the cloud.

To prevent this from happening, either:
  • Start the game from Steam directly - Do not launch the game from a desktop icon or shortcut.
  • Disable Steam Cloud save (Open the options for Spirit City in your library, and in the "General" tab, deactivate Steam Cloud Save for this game.)
- Reset save files completely
Resetting save files completely
  • Make sure the game is closed
  • Disable Steam Cloud sync
  • Delete all save files inside the SaveGames folder (for a guaranteed full reset, please delete save files on each device you've played the game on)
  • Re-open the game
  • Re-enable Steam Cloud sync (if you want)
🚀 Launch issues
- White screen on launch with UI
There is a known issue that devices with an Intel integrated graphic cards (in some non-gaming laptops/Zenbooks/Windows Surface) can have trouble with DirectX11 such as booting up to a fully white screen. Those can follow this tutorial to enable the game in DirectX12 instead.
  • In your Steam library, on the game app Spirit City: Lofi Sessions
  • Hit the cogwheel icon on the top-right to open the options
  • In the "General" tab on the left, search for the Launch options section
  • Enter -dx12 in the launch option text bar
  • Close the options window, then try launching the game again
- Black screen on launch
For some players, the game might take up to a minute to initialize and launch. This is because the game loads into memory everything that's needed during that time, and is especially visible when launching the game for the first time. We recommend to simply be patient for a minute or two.
- Game won't launch, nothing happens
Simply try reinstalling the game fully on Steam.
- Missing C++ Runtime Redistributable
The first time you install and start the game, you might have to install additional C++ Runtime Redistributable files, which is completely normal. However, Steam may attempt to install the required C++ redistributable every launch if:
  • The installation fails silently or is incomplete.
  • The installer doesn’t have admin rights and can't register components.
  • The registry keys that indicate the runtime is installed are missing or corrupted.

To fix this, you may try each of those solutions:
  • Manually installing the latest runtime package, go to download the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015–2022 here[learn.microsoft.com] and run the installer as Administrator, and restart your PC after installing.
  • Reinstalling the game on Steam
  • Uninstall all old Visual C++ Redistributables from Control Panel → Programs → “Microsoft Visual C++...” and reinstall just the latest version.
- MacOS: Missing global shader library
For some players, game might not launch saying it's missing global shader library, while indicating in the path that the username is missing a / character (before Library). This seems like an arbitrary issue based on the user's hardware. To this day, we cannot help in solving this issue for MacOS users. If you have more information on this, please let us know. Until then, asking for a refund is the best bet.
- MacOS: Game needs OS version 13+
Sorry, since Spirit City is built on the most recent Unreal Engine 5 version, it requires quite modern architecture. As mentioned in our minimum requirements on the store page, it cannot run on Mac devices with their OS version below 13.
👾 Crashes, performance, playability issues
- Stuttering Sound
While under heavy CPU load, the sound can start to audibly cut and stutter. This might be related to an outdated CPU chip, or from using the game with other CPU heavy applications running. To mitigate this issue, try reducing the frame rate of the game in the graphics settings to help alleviate the load on the CPU, or try closing a few other intensive applications while using Spirit City.
- LowLevelFatalError: Gamethread timed out
Some players are reporting the game to crash after a couple minutes up to an hour of play, where the error message says: LowLevelFatalError: Gamethread timed out waiting for Renderthread after 120s.

This seems to happen more with RTX 3050/3060 cards, but can also happen with other GPUs. This seems to be related to the GPU "disconnecting" and "reconnecting" even though imperceptible, in the background and making the game think it was disconnected, causing it to hang and crash the game 120 seconds later.

To mitigate this from happening, the best bet is to make sure everything is up to date:
  • Check for any Windows updates
  • Check for CPU drivers update
  • Check for GPU drivers update (if on Nvidia, use GeForce Experience)

Another thing to check is for your device to always be using the dedicated GPU. Some devices, like HP Victus Laptops have notoriously been crashing often because they we're trying to use the integrated Intel GPU instead of the dedicated Nvidia GPU.

These usually help in solving this issue most of the time, but some players report the issue to be sticking around. Currently, we don't know what other steps could be taken to resolve the issue. If you have more information please let us know on our Discord channel. Thank you for your understanding.
- Controller issues when playing another game
If you are using Spirit City alongside another game using a controller, you might get an issue where your controller inputs are still being registered in Spirit City even when the game is not in focus.

To fix this, you can go on the game page in your library, and disable the Steam Input to deactivate the controller inputs for this game. This should prevent the inputs from being registered in Spirit City.
🙈 Visual issues
- Clipping of items/character
While we pay attention to obvious clipping issues, making sure that every combination of room layout, or every combination of character parts are without clipping is impossible for us to manage.

If you feel like there are some jarring clipping issues, feel free to report them in our Discord channel. Otherwise, we have no plans on fixing minor clipping issues. Thank you for your understanding!
- Game looks "blurry"
Some players might consider the game to look "blurry", which can be a multitude of things. Here is some stuff to consider.
  • The game has a soft bloom post-process effect by default for artistic purposes, and currently this is not something we can disable with the in-game settings.
  • With the default graphics settings, the game runs at 80% resolution to help alleviate GPU load. This might cause some blurriness that's more apparent on some monitors. Feel free to adjust it to 100% to have the game run at your full monitor resolution.
- MacOS: UI looks jagged
We do not currently have retina screen support for MacOS, so the user interface buttons might look more blurry/jagged than the icons on your MacOS, as they are using the same resolution as the game (not 2x).
- MacOS: Steam overlay is glitchy
This is a known issue for all Mac devices with Apple chips (M1, M2, M3). Does not happen on Macs with Intel CPU. There is unfortunately nothing we can do on our side, and is on Steam to fix!

- Steam Deck: Clock time issue
For some users on the Steam Deck, the clock will show a wrong time. If that's the case for you, please try these steps:

  • Switch Steam Deck to desktop mode (press STEAM button and press Power)
  • In Popup menu choose "Switch to Desktop" option.
  • Wait while desktop environment will load
  • Mouse click on date-time on the right part of the bottom bar.
  • In opened calendar view mouse click on settings (first icon in top-right corner)
  • In "Digital Clocks Settings" choose "Time Zones" option
  • Press "Switch Systemwide Time Zone" button.
  • Choose your desired timezone and apply settings
  • Click on "Return to Gaming Mode" icon on the desktop
