Introduction
If you were just playing the game - you might be fooled by its combat system. In 99% of situations you can improvise, adapt and survive. And if you play as mage/rogue this will end when you meet Aratrok. This guy appears in the worst context - after you activate Shantiri Crystall. You want to rest, assign your skillpoints, but instead you get a sword fight.

For those who want to continue enjoying this super game - I present my simple tips.
Prerequisits
Well, what to do if mano o mano did not fly? Honestly, Aratrok, IMHO, is a bit overpowered for an average player. In this guide I would like to share my experience. Yes, this would sound as 'bug usage', but honestly, I spent 20+ tries on this mf.

The guide does not include the usage of the stone near the column.

As it was said, you will need only sanctuary and some range skills. An endless bow would be perfect (could be found if you carefully investigate the elevator in this level), fire arrows, scrolls, anything.
What to do?
The column on this screenshot - this is our target. When the cutscene ends - immediately activate Sanctuary, this will give you enough time to get to the column.

Then jump on the first stone (you do not run around, just move in the same direction), make a step back, and jump on the second one.

Voila! You are in position. Now orcs' ai is broken, and they will not even try to get you.
Live to win
After that orcs sometimes run to the gate (see the screenshot) where you can destroy them. Aratrok is imbalance, so it is better to have some fireballs and enough mana.
Time to time you can activate Sanctuary and bait them so they are in your range. Use your weapons and do not forget - Sanctuary gives you 20 seconds every time, so either refresh it or get to the column!

Kicking him into column - my respect. Did not know. Thanks for this info.

Well, you can instakill Aratrok before the cutscene even starts. Using 1 oil puddle and putting 4 firetraps on his spawnpoint kills him in a very amusing way.

But you can also break 1 jar before the fight just in case, the other you can place somewhere safe. To burn Aratrok you don't need any spells, the Staff of the Firelord can be found earlier and it's easy to wield, same for the Earthfire sword, but it requires Strength 2.

And you can always throw a stone at him, that can deal 100-300 damage and it will knock him down, no effort once again.

Finally, you can kick him on the stones that you've shown in the guide or other stones on the opposite side of the arena, that kills him too, since there are no flat surfaces for him to get up.

Agree! The point is 3 jars I found (two near the opposite column + 1 in the corridor) must be used wisely - I am not about it =) I tried 8 times, throwing, making traps, exploding them before and after cutscene starts...

You can also burn Aratrok with the oil jar, that's faster.
