Introduction
This guide provides a fix for save data no longer appearing when launching the game, especially after a crash.

The saves seem to have been added in a very unusual way, but there is a fix to recover your lost save.

Usually, after a crash, when launching the game and trying to load, you may see something similar to this, with no option to continue.

Step 1: Local and Cloud saves
First head on over to your save data folder

Windows:
AppData\Local\RoboCop\Saved\SaveGames

Linux: (Directory may vary, may need to consult your distro for correct location)
/.local/share/RogueLegacy/RogueLegacyStorageContainer/AllPlayers

Copy the folder contents somewhere else, for this example a new folder on the desktop called backup.

Next right click on the game within steam and select properties;

Next under General toggle the cloud save button so that it turns it off;

Step 2 download last cloud save file
You can view all saves stored by steam and Rouge City in your steam client or browser by visiting the steam remote storage page, this also lets you download your save files which comes in handy.

https://cs2bus.com/steamstore/account/remotestorage

On this page simply press Ctrl + F to run a search and type in Robocop

You will see that Robocop lists how many cloud saves are stored within the cloud and the ability to view as well as download them, click on view files to the right.

Now download the most recent file you were using, it will usually tell you the name of the level or chapter.

You may not need this save, however its good to just grab it now in case, we'll come back to this later in the guide.
Organizing files
1. First backup all files within your current local app data folder (in case you need them later)

2. Create a folder for ease of use on the desktop, call it Robocop, then inside this folder create another folder called cloud, then place the most recent downloaded cloud save from steam in this folder.

3. Create another folder called local

4. in your local app data folder (copy what you believe to be your most recent save into the local folder on the desktop

for my example my file that would no longer load was called

NGP Maurice's Apartment Building.sav (NGP indicating a new game plus file for mine.)

5. Within the Robocop desktop folder you should now have Cloud and Local folders, next create a third folder called Modded.

Once done you should now have 3 folders on your desktop inside a Robocop folder as shown.

Download 100% game save
Now head over to Nexus mods to grab a 100% save file

(Don't Worry, you will still be using your save but we need some files from this in order for the save system to play ball with your saves)

https://www.nexusmods.com/robocoproguecity/mods/49

Once downloaded place the folder inside the modded folder you made earlier, then right click on the zip file and extract the contents.

-
Open the new folder the zip extracted
(New Game plus-49-1-1720124893)

(Next open the folder within that called
New game plus)

You should see about 50 files within this folder but we only need 2 for this method to work.
Merge save files
Within the 3 folders you created previous open the local folder making sure that the only file in here is the most recent one from local appdata.

Now go inside the modded folder and delete every file EXCEPT

"SaveIndex.sav" and one of the save files such as "22 - Detroit Arms EXPO"
(Theoretically it should work with any of the save files but I have only tested with "22 - Detroit Arms EXPO" and "Briggs Apartment building" as this was closer to my save file)

With only these two save files left, copy the name of the save file to replace with your save in the local folder, so your save file in local should now have the exact name and .sav prefix.

Once done delete the "22 - Detroit Arms EXPO" (or whichever save you left in modded) so that only SaveIndex.sav remains, copy this file into your desktop local folder.

So your original save should now be called "22 - Detroit Arms EXPO" (or the name of whatever save you chose), as well as have the SaveIndex file next to it.

Go back your appdata folder in windows; or Linux (location may vary)
AppData\Local\RoboCop\Saved\SaveGames

(remember to back this up)

Delete everything in the saves folder and replace with the two files from your desktop local folder so the new renamed save and SaveIndex.sav

Launch the game and you should be able to now press continue and be back where you left off.

If you are still unable to load where you left off, try this method but use one of the saves from your cloud folder instead.

It seems that save files are handled and stored within the SaveIndex.sav file, so when the game crashes something gets messed up in here so it cant see or access the latest saves.

Using this method we use the index file and the renamed save to trick it into seeing your old save.
