Unturned Prime
Unturned has been a big part of my childhood growing up, when it was in its "prime" . It was a fresh type of game that put in mechanics of dayz, roblox , rust etc together and somehow made it all work together cohesively. Nelson the creator of the game chose to make the game free which also resulted in the massive influx of players that came to try it out. It was defined by the hardcore experience of the gameplay loop in which you are born a naked man with no equipment but slowly progressing into a CHAD like character with crazy loot. You can die anytime from anything and the introduction of skills made it worth investing into our characters instead of having the no repercussions most survival games usually have. U not only lost your hard earned gear but your skills as well. Early unturned was defined by survival, interactions etc.

I had really fun sessions with my older brother where we would just roam around the map hoarding items , modifying cars , talking to strangers

Post Covid
I think people usually underplay how massive covid was for unturned as during this period , most people who were stuck at home and wanted to try something new, stumbled upon unturned and with so much time to do nothing , there was the biggest influx of players that unturned ever reached.
i
The covid eras brought a lot of people and we can argue was unturned at its peak, it also brought a lot of unwanted people who completely changed the playerbase of unturned, we now had TOXIC KIDS, unemployed sweaty dudes treating the game like call of duty , this pretty much changed the how the game was played Because a big part of the game was its player interaction. Sweaty kids who grind all day and try to ruin others experiences of the game dominated during this time and drove away most casuals who were either bullied , spawn killed or just straight up banned or kicked from servers.

The slow decline of unturned
The change in mechanics from early unturned to covid unturned was massive, gameplay usually now consisted of getting loot and killing people in the most sweatiest ways possible. Vanilla was despised and servers supporting it reduced, while modded servers became the norm. UNTURNED WAS no longer a survival game but a roblox deathmatch. Veterans left because they felt like the game changed too much and newbies werent even allowed to learn, we can see that a steep decline in playerbase post covid. Most veterans like myself were waiting for unturned 2 to be announced as we thought it would be a return to its original base but sad news broke out in which unturned 2 was cancelled and we were stuck with this mutated monster of a game for indefinite time.

Future of Unturned
The main purpose of the guide:
Is unturned in 2025 worth playing?
HELLL NAW , well thats my opinion however if you wanna enjoy the game's roleplay servers or just have a roblox deathmatch well the game is in its prime.

What can we expect in the future:
Development of unturned 2 is paused and with no hopes of ever being made, we can expect this cesspool to exist for a long while and the return to roots we were hoping for? nah probably not
Vanilla servers are mostly dead or occupied by dudes who play like 15 hours a day.

If nelson sexton ever reads this man we miss the old unturned.........
