Biology for Dummies
Here are some definitions of terminology used in the game.

Examples are provided with reference to the most basic plant – the Borinax.

Trait = variable characteristic
Allele = gene that codes for the trait

Phenotype = the observed trait
Genotype = the genetic combination of the trait

Dominant = allele that masks the effect of recessive alleles; it dominates
Recessive = allele that is masked by the effect of dominant alleles

Homozygous = same alleles
Heterozygous = different alleles
Gameplay Basics
You win the game by unlocking all the plants by the end of Day 13.

You lose the game if you don’t unlock all the plants by the end of Day 13 or if you can’t afford rent.

Ensure that you have at least 10 gold at the end of the day for rent.

At the end of Day 1, you receive some basic plants and a plant catalogue to buy plants.

At the beginning of Day 2, you receive a breeding machine. You can use it 9 times a day – until you upgrade it.

It is cheaper to breed the plants than to buy.

You should aim to have 2 heterozygotes of each plant, other than the one asexual plant (Henchix). Breed them so that the genotype of each trait is heterozygous. That means, the two plants you have should have one of each allele per trait. This way you can breed any genotype of any trait.

Day 2 is quite basic. Accept all the orders. ALL THE ORDERS! Select the easiest order. Some kids want a white Borinax. Just give them one off your pedestals. Make sure to keep one. You should avoid breeding Borinaxes as they are not economically viable. Once you complete this order, another one will come in. This one is also easy. One grey Borinax to some guy. Give him one for some quick monies.

Now, it’s time to buy some catci!

You will need to buy plants from the plant catalogue.

The first plants you will need to buy are the Catcus. You will notice that the orders have more than one trait – height and prickles. So when you buy your two catci from the catalogue, first buy one “Random” catcus. If you look at its genotype, you’ll notice that there’s a question mark in one of the alleles. I wonder what that is! Buy one “Short” catcus next.

Now, let’s breed!

Put two plants of the same species in the breeding machine. You will see the traits and the genotypes of the plants. Click on the dice to see what outcomes are possible.

You can select the desired outcome from the punnet squares.

For the catcus, just breed so you have two plants with tall/short and prickly/?.

Now, breed your two heterozygotes together and select for “fluffy”.

Now, you can begin completing orders!

The orders will tell you which plant, how many and which phenotypes for the traits. So just put your two heterozygotes into the breeding machine and complete the orders.

You will need to check out shop upgrades before you end Day 2.

Buy the breeder power at the end of Day 2.

Shop Upgrades

Breeder Machine
This gives you +1 breeder machine for each purchase.
This is useful as an additional pedestal.
NB: It does not increase the number of times you can breed a plant.
Upgrade this third.

Breeder Power
This gives you +2 breeder power for each purchase.
This is useful for increasing the number of times you can breed a plant.
NB: This upgrade is activated on the next day after purchase.
UPGRADE THIS FIRST.

Breeder Speed
This helps you breed faster.
Upgrade this at the end.

Player Speed
This moves your character faster.
Upgrade this at the end.

Pedestals
This gives you +2 pedestals for each purchase.
Upgrade this second.
Gameplay Strategy
  • Breed and keep two plants that are heterozygous in all traits.

  • Complete more complex orders of plants with more traits for more money. You have limited breeder power.

  • Buy new plant species ASAP. As soon as you can afford it, breed two plants that are heterozygous in all traits.

  • When buying plants from the plant catalogue, only buy “Random” when there is no other option. It is better to buy plants with different traits so you will need fewer breeds to get your heterozygotes.

  • Buy the breeder power shop upgrade by Day 2.

  • Buy more breeder power whenever you can afford it.

  • Buy more pedestals whenever you can afford it.

  • Buy more breeder machines whenever you can afford it. They serve as extra pedestals.

Achievement Guide
The Accumulator
Unlock all plants in the catalogue before the last day.

This is easily achievable. The more money you make, the more plants you unlock.

The Matchmaker
Breed 150 plants

This is easily achievable, as you complete orders.

The Workhorse
Complete 80 orders

It is possible to miss this achievement. You might need a second playthrough. Try to accept orders that ask for fewer than 4 plants. Be warned that it can be tedious waiting for orders to come through for only 1, 2 or 3 plants. You can definitely complete this achievement by accepting orders for 4 or 5 plants. If you reject orders, they represent the next day. So there's the possiblility that the next (and possibly smaller) orders may not present. (Thank you to Temerair for the additional information). If someone wants something that can easily be bought from the plant catalogue (Henchix or Borinax buyers), then complete those orders. It saves you breeder power and it counts as another order completed. I managed to get this achievement on Day 10, using this strategy.

The Prodigy
Win the World's Fair

This is a bit tricky but achievable. Always accept Maestro Pouter Pidgeon’s orders and follow his instructions carefully. You are able to wait one day for Maestro Pouter Pidgeon’s orders. This is not recommended. (Thank you to Temerair for the additional information).

County Fair: Enter one plant that is heterozygous for at least two traits.
You can breed one catcus with tall/short and prickly/fluffy.

Tri-State Area: Enter two plants that are the same species but have completely different traits.
You can breed two catci – one that is tall and prickly and one that is short and fluffy.

National: Enter three plants of any species that are homozygous dominant for at least three traits.
You can breed one bunnyon (straight/straight, brown/brown, green/green), one fauxgloves (suede/seude, mitten/mitten, single/single) and one pitcherplant (cubes/cubes, water/water, lidded/lidded). You can use multiples of the same plant for this order. (Thank you to Temerair for the additional information).

Worlds: Just enter five plants with lots of recessive traits to win!
You can breed one bunnyon (lop, white, red), one fauxgloves (velvet, glove, double), one pitcherplant (cherries, soda, open lid), one crys-anthem-mums (red, singing, note), one chomplex (flat, short, desert, grabby), one woodwince (sax, tuba, horrible, gold). You can use multiples of the same plant for this order. (Thank you to Temerair for the additional information).

The Doormat
Finish the whole game without rejecting a single order.

This is easily achievable. Simply never reject an order. However, you still need to “win” the game, so you will still need to make money to unlock all the plants in the plant catalogue.

The Pinchfist
Have 500 Gold

This is easily achievable near the end of the game. Ensure that you complete complex orders of plants with more traits to make as much money as possible per breeder power.

Spendthrift
Purchase all shop upgrades

This is easily achievable near the end of the game when you have many monies. As I mentioned earlier, buy more breeder power ASAP. Wait till you get The Pinchfist achievement before you buy all the extra upgrades.

Thank for the extra advice!

Thanks for the guide! I managed to get all achievements on a single playthrough, with many 4/5 orders. The trick that pulled me over on Workhorse is that ANY order that requires exactly ONE recessive trait may be purchased from the catalogue (such as rSunshine/dGold Sweety, rLop/dBrown/dGreen Bunnyon, dHotdog/dMustard/rGrilled Hattodogu).

no need to credit me, you have my permission :)
I've played the game some more, and from my experience you can always wait one day to do Maestro Pouter Pidgeon’s orders, but the chances of winning get lower if do not furfull his order the first day. I that case it is indeed important to diversify your plants if you want to win.

for the workhorse achievment I needed to accept orders of 4 plants too and even sometimes orders of 5 plants, as I have the impression that even when you reject offers that they will come back the next day. The people have also an order when they come to buy plants, so you will not be able to complete the next (and possibly smaller) orders if you do not furfill the currect (and bigger) one. I ran out of small orders, but still manneged to get the achievement at the end of day 11, even when accepting some big orders.
