If you can't find a specific animal in a spot you know they should be, like Flying Foxes at Hua or Dugons a Hnora Dock, try moving far enough away to unload the animal spawns and run back. I found Fast Travel a less reliable means, especially if you're target animal would spawn near the dock.

As far as I can tell, the animal attracting apparel doesn't increase spawns. It just makes animals likely to follow you if you're already near them. Having said that, the Attract Animals soul melody is great for finding the fish you need.
