Star Wars: The Force Unleashed PC Port Fixes
By lingo
This is a pretty neat game. It's also got few problems you might want to fix.

Issues covered in this guide:
  • 30 FPS Cap Unlock
  • Support For 1080p+ Resolutions
  • Odd Blurring and Distant Object Glitching
  • Sound Issues in the Last Two Levels

The majority of these fixes come from the PCGamingWiki[www.pcgamingwiki.com] and are for the Windows version of the game.

30 FPS UNLOCK
Luckily a fine user modded the Force Unleashed executable to let you increase the 30fps cap.

As a side note, this mod also includes modded .exes for Force Unleashed II as well!
  1. First download this .7z file[community.pcgamingwiki.com] and extract it (use winrar, 7zip, etc)
  2. Navigate to your local install of your game (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars The Force Unleashed)
  3. Repace the original .exe file with the modded one of your choosing!
NOTE: The increased frame cap may result in a higher chance of crashing, the unlimited cap option increases this chance even further. When running over 40fps this mod can also cause objects to automatically rise when you force grip them when.
HIGH RESOLUTION (1440p/4K) UNLOCK
This fix just needs you to edit some config files.
  1. Navigate to "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Aspyr\Star Wars The Force Unleashed"
  2. Open "Config.xml"
  3. Edit "<s id="VideoWidth"> insert value here </s>" and "<s id="VideoHeight"> insert value here </s>" to your desired resolution
  4. Enjoy the game in 1440p, 4k, and above!
NOTE: If you want to quickly get to "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\" just type %localappdata% into the Windows search bar or Run.
ODD BLUR AND DISTANT OBJECT GLITCHING
This looks to be directly tied to Intel Onboard Graphics. It seems Intel iGPUs are unsupported by the game. The only way found to fix this so far is to have an AMD or Nvidia graphics card.

SOUND ISSUES IN LAST 2 STAGES
For whatever reason sounds cut out on the last two levels.
  1. Navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars The Force Unleashed\LevelPacks"
  2. Download the fix from this guide and extract it
  3. Replace all the files in the \LevelPacks directory
  4. Enjoy actaully hearing proper sound in the last two levels

@RoxstarAM: Have you actually run the game first?? Also AppData is hidden, make sure you can view hidden files okay, or from the search bar type %LocalAppData%

The force unleashed file can only be found in my program files through steam no matter where I look in the user area it's no where to be found

??? I've never seen the game install its own controller drivers, what are you on about?

@lingo you should add how to get controllers to work to the guide

(disable controller drivers in device manager and then boot the game)
turning them on after the game installs its own drivers wont cause issues.

@Hypersuperguy: It may display okay at that resolution, but it will not render at it without the config edit. You're getting 1080p stretched to fit the screen at best without making that edit.

do you need to edit config files to play in 4k? Seems like the 60fps fix and just launching the game normally lets me play in 4k

not what I was hoping to hear, but not unexpected. Thanks asmcint

@Dhaunas: In-engine cutscenes should render at the gameplay resolution, but a lot of the game's cutscenes are pre-rendered video files, so they're stuck at the resolution they're at, presumably 1280x720.
Dhaunas 3 Jun, 2024 @ 8:14pm
I've got it running 60fps at 3840 x 1600, along with ReShade -- it looks and runs amazing! The only issue is that the cutscenes get stretched out to fill the screen :goblin: Is there any way to set the cutscene resolution independent of gameplay resolution?

I don't know if this counts in this forum/discussion, but whenever I try to open the game, I only hear the choppy sounds of the game's intro music and my screen doesn't change into the game itself. I have a MSI Raider GE68 HX 13V if it helps
