Alternative 1 - Activating of the DLC
Going by what BeLe mentioned, I (eblake) tracked down the console DLC file, and checking it, it contained just one file:
Promo__Xe-WillowGame.ini
Which had only two lines:
[PromotionalUnlocks] +UnlockId=1

Next step, we need to add those two lines to the following file:

Steam\steamapps\common\Borderlands\WillowGame\CookedPC\DLC\DLC1\DLC1__WillowGame.ini

So it looks like this:
[DlcPackages] +DefinitionPackageId=1 [PromotionalUnlocks] +UnlockId=1

Next time you start a new game you should be greeted by an unlock message when accesing your backpack for the first time, and your character will have two new Gearbox starting weapons.
! Important Notes !
  • Savegame modding can cause file corruption! (thats based on a known bug of the game, but editing the safes with third party tools increase the chance of it to happen! - damn console-to-pc ports -.-)
    A. so only mod fresh safes and you should be fine ;-)
    B. or BACKUP your safegame BEFORE edit! - should be a nobrainer tough
  • The weapon rebuilds are made of real pictures from owners of the console limited DLC - with statistics screens to check that the stats are correct! ;-)
  • the weapon name in willow tree and ingame may differ, but they have the same stats and visual looking like the console ones - also its impossible to get the exact same names - i tryed!
  • due to the weapon skin being based on weapon material, rolands weapons sadly use mordecais weapon skin. :-(
    stats are still correct!
  • you can define your own weapons here:
    http://blmodding.wikidot.com/gear-calculator
(make sure the weapon calculation is legit!)
  • sadly i haven't thought about saving those pictures, they where part of a forum post about that DLC and if it's worth buying, wich is offline now! - so you only have my word, but who owns the DLC might consider providing me new fancy screenshoots of the real ones? - i will give credit ofc! - yea, haven't linked that forum post, was younger back then, gave a sh*t about documentation - sorry!)
___ How-To ___
  • 1. you need the WillowTree[sourceforge.net] safegame editor!
  • 2. copy&paste the following codes down below into simple text (.txt) files
  • 3. open willowtree, open or create a new safe
  • 4. goto weapons, click insert --> from file, search your desired weapon .txt file - thats it! ;-)
  • 5. don't forget to save the changings in your safegame file and load it ingame to have fun ;D
Alternative 2 - More accurate Weapon code
Some time ago the specs for these were posted in the BL wiki, in the talk section of the Gearbox manufacturer page, so they can be edited in via willowtree:

https://borderlands.fandom.com/wiki/Talk:Gearbox_(weapons)

There are some differences with your recreations, but they were really close. Some time ago I tested them and the names of the resulting weapons match perfectly, only thing missing on the talk page is the last number, 0, for all of them (update 04/08: checked with Willowtree)

It worked great :cozyspaceengineersc:
Tried both on a new character, and on the "not fresh". A message about receiving a weapon, everything is as it should be.
And, with the help of codes and save editor, I collected the entire collection at once :steammocking:
I will definitely try it in the future and in the "Enchanted edition".

oh my god, I love you.
I brought this up to Gearbox back in 2012 when I did it. Asked if I could tell it to people on their forum, they said no.
I'm pretty sure they then, at some point, patched it some, because I think I just copied the folder from the xbox package, Xenon/cooked/ or something.
I ran through with FileAccessErrorView from NirSoft to see if anything would come up, but while it told me about that folder, it doesn't search for that INI anymore.
I gave up there - came to report... and found this :D thanks.

(continued)

And success, I started a new game and firs time I accessed my backpack I was greeted by a message and the two guns were there.

Images and Lilith's weapons:
https://cs2bus.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1701864491
https://cs2bus.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1701864510
https://cs2bus.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1701864542

Tomorrow I will probably keep testing to see if there is any other place to add the file/lines, but yes, the 8 weapons can be unlocked easily by adding those two lines to one of the ini files
edubx  [author] 2 Apr, 2019 @ 8:07pm
Well, success!

Going by what BeLe mentioned, I tracked down the console DLC file, and checking it, it contained just one file:

Promo__Xe-WillowGame.ini

Which had only two lines:

[PromotionalUnlocks]
+UnlockId=1

I tried adding the file in different folders (no luck) or the two lines to the WillowGame.ini without luck.

Then I tried adding them to one of the DLC ini files, the one located here in particular:
"Steam\steamapps\common\Borderlands\WillowGame\CookedPC\DLC\DLC1\DLC1__WillowGame.ini"

So it looks like this:

[DlcPackages]
+DefinitionPackageId=1

[PromotionalUnlocks]
+UnlockId=1

.

well, if you could find it out again and share that file or it's content it would be nice to try them out^^ - but game's pretty old and i doubt many will be interested in as they are only start weapons anyway! - so decide for yourself if you would like to spend some time on it to figure it out again and share it! ;-)
BeLe 2 Apr, 2019 @ 9:57am
there was actually a way to unlock it on PC. The thing to unlock it on ps3/360 was just a key file. If you got the keyfile on you PC and put it in a similarly named directory, it'd just work.
However I don't know if that works with the current version since I didn't backup the path the keyfile was supposed to be in.

overall they are just beginner weapons, and modding a safegame should be done only once because of the bad portation from console systems to pc version there is a chance that you crash your game with a modded safe - my experience is that this chance is very small but with every edit of the safegame it seems to get higher (have crashed several safes trough messing around, modding and testing stuff!)
so make a fresh safe, install the codes you want, safe and leave it as is - you still have a chance that the game might crash at some point in the game but it is very rare (i had it once, backups are a timesafer in this game xP)
