Introduction

Haomé!

This guide is a collection of tips and other possibly helpful things about Outcast 1.1. It is work in progress (and probably can't be finished by definition) as more information emerges or becomes relevant. This is not a walkthrough, but will contain help for some quests. As such, there may be minor spoilers. If you are having trouble at a point in the game, feel free to ask though.

I had been playing the original Outcast religiously and was an active member in the Infogrames forums back then. OC 1.1 makes me drive through nostalgia lane big time :)
Unfortunately a lot of information that was available back then has been lost. It is possible that I put things in this guide that do not apply for the remake anymore. The developers have been doing a fine job streamlining some things that were a lot less obvious in the original game.

I am deeply grateful for any additions, corrections or other constructive feedback of any kind!
General
  • You can ride four different Twôn-Has in the game:

    1. Buy from Zalinas (140 zorkins)
    2. Sing the miner's song with the beggar in pottery bok in Talanzaar, you can find the Twôn-Ha near the Daoka to Ranzaar in Shamazaar.
    3. Buy Zozo's Gui from the water trader Mobarr in Motazaar after helping him (80 zorkins). You can find Zozo near the Daoka to Ranzaar in Shamazaar.
    4. You can use the bought Gui from Zalinas to ride a wild Twôn-Ha in Okaar.

  • In the original game, it was possible to complete 107 % of the main story. 1 % for clearing each region of Faé soldiers and 2 % for defeating Kroax' soldiers before himself.

  • You can destroy the wooden crates and even the sentry posts the Fae soldiers use as cover. While dynamite or the LN-DUO work fine, a couple of shots with the UZA or HAWK are enough.

  • You can change the minimap size with Numpad + and zoom in/out with */-.

  • Krakkit (the spiders) despawn faster if you turn around after killing them so they are not on the screen anymore. This makes picking up their Mool less bothersome.

  • It appears several achievements are bugged at the moment. I personally couldn't unlock these achievements, but according to the global achievement stats I am not alone in that:

    1. I'll do my best (although I brought Zeo both Essence Stones)
    2. Thief caught (although I caught Ylia and paid the zorkins for him)
    3. Marion "may" be here / Always in trouble, she is (shouldn't you just get them in the main story in Talanzaar?)
    4. Okaar's quests,
    5. Talanzaar's quests,
    6. Shamazaar's quests,
    7. Okasankaar's quests
    8. Main quests!
I finished the game with 98 % Quests / 100 % Bonus Quests found. I think it is currently not possible to reach 100%/100% (or even more, like in the original game) without the achievements/their underlying finish quest triggers getting fixed. The in-game quests are working fine though. You can successfully complete all the quests there are in the game.
Ranzaar
You can sneak past Jan by jumping into the water and diving until you reach the stairs on the other side. Or, well, not sneak at all.
Shamazaar
  • If you do the two quests for Zalinas (defeat the Gamors, deliver the Twôn-Ha to Zolass), you can buy the Twôn-Ha for a much better price from him (140 zorkins).

  • There are two Essence Stones you can find for Zeo. One is guarded in the tower near the center of the inner circle of the region, the other in a small lake full of sankaar. For the best game completion percentage, bring him the one from the tower first (needs confirmation, achievement seems to be broken at the moment).

  • As is the case many times in this game, the waters around the Faé temple are full of nice items.

  • While in the Faé temple, reach Naarn coming out of the Daoka before he dies to talk to him. Find Ilott afterwards to tell him of your meeting.

  • You can talk to one of the Talans that clear the temple of rocks after you destroyed the fake gorgor. After you stopped the riss production, he will be training in the south-east of Shamazaar (he was doing push-ups in my game).

  • Make sure to blow up the four boats connecting the central region islands with dynamite or the HAWK/LN-DUO. You will even get rewarded for it.

  • There is a hidden path to a lot of stash sticks near the barrier. You are supposed to reach it only after the barrier has fallen, but with the help of a Twôn-Ha jump you can easily get there before (see the first screenshot).

This also enables you to circumvent the barrier and trigger a main story cutscene before you are supposed to.
Talanzaar
The prices of the merchants are strange. It seems there were plans for two additional guns that didn't make it into the game, a dart gun and a laser gun (it is also possible they were merged with the existing weapons). This explains the wildly differing prices for the SLNT-B, both the merchants supposed to sell the "scope" gun and the "dart" gun sell the SLNT-B only. Also, the flamethrower upgrades sold by the builders/sankaar bok merchant should cost 960 zorkins according to the outcast.ini, but cost 980 in game.

Lastly, there were plans for a tenth merchant, but he didn't make it into the game. As he seems to have been the one to sell the upgrades, there are currently no SLNT-B upgrades in the game. Bucake did some interesting research about these things[www.gog.com].

Here is a list of the weapon and weapon upgrade prices sold by the merchants. The best prices are in cursive.

  • One of the two merchants in the meat bok sells two additional F-Links (the teleporting devices) for 100 zorkins each, raising the number of available F-Links to five.

  • The beggar Mogi has a long story to tell. Don't skip anything he says to finish the quest (needs confirmation, not canceling the conversation might be enough).

  • Give Shadi in the Animal Skin bok 50 zorkins thrice. You can ask him to bring Zagu's Good Moon Lampe to the armory soldiers then, making the armory considerably easier to clear out.

  • After finding the relic for Balazaar outside of the walls, he will give you only 500 zorkins because its surface has withered. If you decline his offer, he tells you to clean its surface by dropping it in front of the Achondar in Okaar. While that will work, you can simply drop it onto the ground and grill it with your flamethrower. Balazaar will give you the nice price of 1500 zorkins then.
Motazaar
  • The food thief can be difficult to catch sometimes. A way to make it work is hide around the left corner of the house, follow him when he enters the house and talk to him while he is in the very act of stealing out of the crate.

  • When you have reached the Shamaz's prison, open his cell last in order to get the most loot. You can see in which cell he is by zooming in the minimap (Numpad *).
Okasankaar
  • Offer to not give away the thief Ylia to Zafar and pay the zorkins yourself. As a thanks, Zidar at the docks will then bring you to a place with sunken treasure.

  • Before you go on the Gorgor hunt with Oru, talk with his ex-partner Kyuran and play the messenger for the both of them. You can't finish this if you go Gorgor hunting right away.

  • After Egar helped you opening the sunken temple and you got Oru's weapon from the temple, find Egar again. He will tell you where to find another treasure.

  • The Gorgor tooth you find in the Darosham belonged to Martigar's father. Thus, it is best to visit the Darosham before going to Zorkatraz so you can give it to him.

  • When Shamaz Kalab mentions that a friend of Zidar is going to be reverted in the Darosham and you talk to Zidar about it, immediately head to the Darosham or you might be too late. It can be quite difficult to save all the prisoners, so be quick about defeating the soldiers. In Outcast 1.1 though, the fire didn't turn back on for me after my first visit to the Darosham, which made saving all the prisoners much easier.

  • One of the easter eggs I found in probably every single Outcast guide when the game was originally released: Swim behind the Darosham to find a certain message:

Okaar
You can sell Hoti for 80 zorkins apiece to Mored in Talanzaar. Since they respawn, they are a great source of income.

Thanks for the additions. You can use the old helidium for your HAWK-MK8, bring it to Azirad in Okriana.

Also, if you do have problem jumping onto the platform with boat light try to find a proper spot. In my case the only spot I could jump on it from was the farest to the right. From all other spots I always inevitably fell down. Looks like a glitch to me. Also don't forget to remove the old helidium, I've spent there like 15 minutes wondering why the hell can't I use my helidium piece before I realised maybe I should try to remove the old one xD

And another tip from me. If you want to finish off Kroax in a matter of seconds heed my words. Right after the cutscene when he assures Cutter this time this is the end head to the door you came through equipping flamethrower. Kroax should appear behind the second tree (counting from the door) and will not disappear immediately. Get near him (he won't shoot you from that distance, at least it never happened to me) and one touch of a good old flamethrower and you can enjoy badly written finale ;).

Just a quick note/correction: If you want to get the "Thief caught" achievement in Okasankaar, you actually *do* have to rat out Ylia to Zafar (I guess most players here are just bros and never did that). At least I was able to get it this way. And thanks for your guide, it was a big help for my recent playthrough (I also published my own achievement guide/bug report on Steam yesterday should anyone still be interested).

Another tip. Never underestimate how badass Cutter actually is. You know those Fae squad leaders? The same that won't die from one explosion of dynamite or from one direct hit from Hawk? Just beat them up with Cutter's bare hand, they shall be helpless against it. Seriously, I've killed like 150 soldiers so far by melee.

I would add there is a ridiculously easy way to get rid of Faes on sentry posts - just approach them from covered side, not even need to be sneaky at all, climb on it and then just drop down right by the soldier. They actually won't attack you if you're that close (glitch suspected) and one hit of the fist will kill them. Spiders are more difficult than them if you know that trick.
