So you'd like to re-map your controller to standard RPG configuration? My thumb got tired of straying to the blue button for everything too.

What I know is you should window the game with 'alt+enter.' Then you hit F1 to access the remapping interface. You should avoid making changes while any game menu is open.

After some experimentation I can make this really simple for you all. Switch the A and C values in the F1 game controller menu. An X-box-like controller will now have the following values:

Green = Main button, select, talk, ect...
Red = Exit, Inventory, Menu access when mouse is off
Blue = Run
Yellow = Information, Combat turn window, ect...

Let me know if this helps, or if you guys get different results. I will update or add new sections as needed.

Hmmm, I'd try plugging the controller into a different USB. There's also a way to uninstall, then reinstall peripherals. Make sure it isn't plugged in still when you restart your computer. It may just be that things have changed. It's been a really really long time now since I've messed with things, or even played anything RPG maker, unless the old Legend of Heroes port is RPGM.

It's been a while since I made the guide Catw/Hphones. It could be an update has changed things. I built a new rig, so I need to re-install and check.

I would reset the defaults, and then make the corresponding change by 'color' rather than letter. The idea is thumb position on the physical controller, so the colors are what physically represent an X-Box compatible controller layout. Hope this helps.

As for an explanation, look at your setup and see what button is makes you run. Switch that button with whatever is makes you exit, inventory, Menu.

I might be missing something. I switched the A and the C but nothing changed, or maybe I didn't do it right? It was just switch the one that said A to C and C to A is how I interpreted it but maybe I'm not getting what I'm REALLY supposed to be doing.
Sorry, but can I get an explanation to how to do this?
