Introduction
_--``For Anyone Concerned``--_
This is NOT considered cheating. You are not enhancing your preformance with a third party program or mouse. This is all natural and was intended to be used in the game but Gearbox doesn't like to give the player freedom. Tampering with the files in this guide are NOT considered cheating! (Unless your name is Dave and you like to call anyone a cheater to distract others from the fact that you are actually cheating)

If you're a person who likes higher FoV options because you're used to games like Quake and Unreal Tournament, then this guide will help you out! Duke Nukem Forever limits your field of view to 90 at the maximum, BUT with this simple and easy trick, you can change that to something like this...

That is 120 FoV in Duke Nukem Forever and this guide will help you change that. Here's how...

P.S. If you noticed my EGO meter says "StarCraftZerg" that is another simple trick that I can teach you as a BONUS for this guide. It will be at the end.
Changing your FoV (Field of View)
Like I said,
this is fairly simple to do and PLEASE follow my instructions CAREFULLY!!! I can't stress that enough. If you change the slightest thing within this file, your game will be rendered unplayable. Gearbox tried to keep out modders by penalizing you for tampering with the files and if you mess with the wrong line of code, your game is SHOT. Thanks Randy Pitchford...

Anyway, you're going to want to find a file within your Steam/userdata/"PlayerID"/57900/remote named "user.ini". ("PlayerID" is a bunch of random numbers that make up your profile on Steam. If you have multiple accounts, you're going to be doing some deep scavenging). Once you find the "user.ini" file, you'll want to download a program online known as "Notepad++" which can be found here: https://notepad-plus-plus.org

Once you've installed Notepad++, open the user.ini file and search for the following lines:

  • DefaultFOV=75
  • DefaultFOV=75.000000
  • DefaultFOV=75.000000

-Note-
These are not together like shown above, they are seperated and the best way to find them is by pressing "CTRL + F" to find a certain phrase. In this case, look for the phrase "DefaultFOV" without the quotes.

Once you find all of the DefaultFOV lines, change the "75" to "120". Don't change the decimals, just the real numbers and when you're done click "File" at the top, save it and run Duke Nukem Forever. If this was all done correctly, you will have your field of view changed to this...

Hope this helped you guys and if you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have fun!
***BONUS*** Changing the "EGO" text
Welcome to the BONUS ROUND!!!

Here I will teach you all how to change the EGO text in your Duke Nukem Forever game. This one is rather simple like the FoV change, but easier.

To change text, you need to go to Steam/SteamApps/common/Duke Nukem Forever/System and find the file titled "dngame.int" and this is another file that we will open in Notepad++. The line of code is at the very top and you should be able to see it without scrolling. Look for a line of text that says "EgoMeterText=EGO". All you have to do is change "EGO" to whatever you want, like I put mine to "StarCraftZerg". You can go nuts!

You can change almost every single text based thing in Duke Nukem Forever from within this file. If you're not familiar with this kind of modding or aren't comfortable with changing anything else, then please don't touch the other lines of text. If you DO decide to venture onward, then please note that you should ONLY change the text after the "=" for example:

GOOD
EgoMeterText=EGO -----> EgoMeterText=StarCraftZerg

BAD
EgoMeterText=EGO -----> StarCraftZerg=EGO

-Note-
If you do not see the file extensions, go to Control Panel and then Appearance and Personalization and select Folder Options (File Explorer Options for you Windows 8 and 10 users) and select the view tab and uncheck the box labeled "Hide extensions for known file types". Now click apply and you should now see file extensions.

If this is done correctly, you will be able to change the text on quite a few things:

Your EGO Meter:

"You Won!" changed to...:

The Name of a Gun:

Insert Mortal Kombat Reference Here:

Good luck to all and always, if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them in the comments below. Have fun guys!

Hello mate, I did not find the 'user data' in steam folder. Can I change fov by changing ini in Duke Nukem Forever Game Folder?

It is considered “file tampering” but there is extreme limitations to what you can do with what I’m showing here. There is no way to out-right give yourself an advantage over others, but it will help if you prefer higher field of view options. Games like Quake, Doom and even Call of Duty allow players to customize their FOV from within the game via in-game console, but unfortunately DNF lacks this ability, making this the only way to customize your field of view. 90 being the cap, in my opinion, is very restrictive for a game that would greatly benefit from something like this.

Wait, isn't this cheating?

Completely reinstall DNF. If that doesn't work, you'll need to find a friend who has the "user.ini" file available.

Play one mission of single player and then give the MP a go and then try again
