Intro
Salutations, my real-life in-game name is wind and I've literally played this game for around 2 weeks. I once read the game chat of someone trying to explain how to access the market and I decided then and there that I will 1, never read game chat again, and 2, make a ton of money on the market.
Why You Should Read This Guide
  • Your items never sell.
  • You suck at earning fake money.
  • You look in the mirror, remember your dreams as a kid, and realize this is what you've become.
F.A.Q
How do I make money on the market wind?
Calm down I'm about to explain it to you. I won't whitewash it either.

What's the best armor and weapon for my level?
As the mods always say, type /wiki and look for yourself. Just kidding, get an Iron Excalibur.

What talents should I focus on as a dual-wield Frost Gnome Death Knight?
Probably Plague Leech or Unholy Blight. I don't know man, why are you asking me this on the RPG MO forum?
The Nitty Gritty
Money is life, money is love. It's everything you need. Your homies, your parents, even your significant other might disagree with me. They're wrong. Think for yourself. Don’t be a lemming. When you have money suddenly the world is your oyster. You're Bruce Wayne. Everyone wants to be your friend, they invite you to their parties and that cute girl wants to talk to you about something... In your tinted windowed Bugatti.

For some reason, every 5-10 minutes in EN, ST, or $$ chat there's someone asking why their fish isn't selling. It's the basics of economics folks. Economics is the study of production and distribution, or supply and demand. People trade money and things they have too much of (Raw Lion Fish) for things they don't have enough of (Enchanted Devastators). So you know how to produce right? You've probably been doing it since you started the game.

You have a stockpile of raw fish that would satiate North Korea’s food shortages. You need that dirty money so you can buy yourself those shiny leather shoes. You know the ones. The expensive green ones that all your friends bought during their summer vacation while you were sitting on the docks, playing with worms and getting a sun tan. But wait, there's 30 other people on the boardwalk trying to get rid of their fish too. What do you do?
How to Stick it to Your Fellow Players
There are 3 simple concepts you peasants need to understand in order to maximize your profits and/or acquire business:

  • Predatory pricing or undercutting.
  • Monopolization.
  • Economic equilibrium.

One of the easiest ways to make money is to undercut people. Don't feel bad about this, the little sons of (censored) are doing it to you too. The idea behind predatory pricing is that you set a price very low. Very, very low. The intention of this is to drive competition out of the market. This creates what is called a 'barrier to entry' to new competitors, You've just become the Joker, a violent anarchist. But you're trying to do good, you want to be Bruce Wayne. Or maybe you want to delve further into the depths of evil?

This type of marketing strategy is very cut-throat, and if you do it right you'll have rapid expansion. Eventually there will be very few people in the market and no one wants to enter the market because of such little profit. This makes the people still in the market de facto monopolies. Take your blood money, you savage.

Now that you've gotten your hands on some new shoes and a nice hat, you've started farming mobs for specific items like Efreet pet's (their children you sick pedo) and now you're in a position to expand your marketing game, to corner a market and become a dominate force. Being a playboy Billionaire is no longer giving you any enjoyment. You done talked to all the pretty girls, you have cash to spend. You might be asking, wind how do I turn my fishing game into the big leagues? You lived as a hero long enough that you've become a villain.

Once you have a significant amount of money you can start abusing parts of the market to your favor. Now instead of being the popular kid you're getting into the seedy underbelly of Gotham, a Mafia chieftain, you want to hang your cape and become The Roman, Carmine Falcone. Or Wayne Industries, whichever fits better.

The easiest way to become a monopoly is to control a significant portion of certain items in the market. (Hint: This has to be something other than fish because everybody already fishes and the market is already over saturated with no profit because of you.) This is going to require a lot of money to buyout the current market and/or set buy orders for higher than NPC cost. This is going to take time and effort on your part. It's not simple undercutting anymore.

Let me be clear on this: You need to do some research. See what people need (raw materials like ore chunks), what a NPC will buy that for, and finally put a buy order on the market for higher than that price. It's as simple as that. Soon enough you'll be the only one in the market that has the item(s) people need and you control the price. Once you control the spice, you control the universe.

OK. Other people are entering the market but since you have so much money you immediately buy them out and resell it as your own, for profit. You're the Mafia boss (or Fox) and you own the market. Now you want to survive this world, rebuild bridges. You were a savage in your youth but you've come to terms with yourself and now you see it's lonely on the top. You reach out to the people trying to enter the market, ask/tell them that we should keep the price even across the board. That way everyone is making a bit of money. This is called equilibrium. It's a rare sight to see. The forces of supply and demand are balanced and absent of any negative influences. The quantity demanded of a product is equal to the quantity supplied. You just won the game.

Lastly, ladies and gentlemen, let's just take a moment here to celebrate something that I think we can all agree is truly an amazing thing.

And that is... Me.

The end.

Bonus video that sums up my article.

Its too small of a game for this to work well.... by which I mean, RPGMO is more about the community there than anything else, and everyone in the community knows the flippers and the others on the market who really just make the market not very useable for new players.
