A
Arrest
– when you put someone in Jail (or when they put you there); may also happen when you don't bribe the Police and you roll "1", or when you get a Misfortune that sends you to Jail (e.g. Unscheduled Vacation).

the Astral Plane
– the Astral Plane is one of the 11 locations in the game. The basic mechanics is that you can skip a turn, to lose 2 malice and then, instead of drawing 1 new card from the deck, choose 1 out of 3 cards offered. This is the location where a lot of powerful cards can be played, including those that are played for free. However, to get to the Astral Plane, you either have to pass 6 Bribe spots, or use one of the teleportation cards (e.g. "Fast & Fair").
B
The Bank
– one of the 11 locations in the game. The general mechanics is that you can invest $ to increase your income by $10. The more income you have, the more money you need to invest in order to increase it, so you should choose carefully when to stop with the investments. There is also one card that allows you to build an Astral Elevator, to go to the Astral Plane right from the Bank (bypassing all the bribes along the regular way) and there's a card that allows you to get income every time you visit the Bank. Furthermore, there's at least one permanent card playable here, that increases your income by $30 (as long as it's active).

Bribe
– the amount of money that you must pay when passing the Bribe spot, of when bribing the Police (when you land on that spot). Bribes are also used in the mechanics of some of the cards (e.g. "the opponent of your choice pays their double bribe instead of you").
C
the Casino
– the Casino is located on the right side of the playing field. The basic mechanics is that you roll the dice, and lose something when you roll 1, 2 or 3; and win something when you roll 4, 5 or 6. It is not a good strategy to count on the Casino to replenish your funds but if you're passing by and don't mind taking a chance for lack of better options, then of course warm nicht? Important: in the Casino, you cannot win more money than you currently have. I.e. if you have $50 and roll 6, then you will still only get $50, not $100. There is a couple of cards that allow you to re-roll in the Casino, which increases your chances to score. And there is a very nice card called "Opening Day Gift", which gives you both money and score for free. However, this card also has 6 move points, and so it's very appealing to use it to move and not to play for action.

Conflict
– Player Conflict is what happens when one player lands on the same spot as another (as to locations, all the players can share them without initiating any conflicts). Both players bid certain amounts of money in secret, whoever bids the most pays & stays on the spot - whoever bids least, is arrested.

the Court
– one of the 11 locations in the game. The Court is located at the upper right corner of the playing field and you must pay a bribe to get there. Its basic mechanics allows players to pay $40 in order to steal a vote from an opponent, but the cards that can be played there are much more vicious. With "An IOU" you can take money from another player; "A Confiscation" allows to steal an active permanent card or score points from an opponent; you can even change the Governor by starting Elections before the usual time if you have "Impeachment!" or "A Compromising Document". Just keep in mind that some of the cards in Court cost votes instead of money.
D
the Dump
– the Dump is one of the 11 locations in the game. It is located between the Plant and the Jail, so that when you escape from the Jail (using one of the Jail events), you may begin your journey to freedom here. The basic mechanics of the Dump is that you roll the dice and lose a vote when you roll 1, nothing when you roll 2 or 3, and earn some money when you roll 4, 5 or 6. The Dump offers a perk to the player(s) with the least money: +$30 to any result of the dice roll. Normally, the cards playable in the Dump are cheap (e.g. pay $80 for 2 score points), however there is one very powerful card that is playable here - "A Secret Project" - which for $600 gives you 11 score points (!!).
E
earning
– in this game, you will earn score points, money, votes & malice. Score points are the main thing to go after. Malice is the one to avoid (if you can).

the Elections
– the Elections happen every 20 rounds. Additionally, you can have snap elections happening because of a Misfortune, or due to someone playing a special card in the Court. The mechanics of the Elections is as follows: the player(s) with the least malice get +3 votes, then everyone's total votes are counted. Whoever has the most, wins, becomes the Governor and receives +1 score. Once the Elections are over, everyone's votes are halved, rounding up from the bottom (e.g. 5 votes/2 = 2.5 => 2). Be sure to follow the interface indicator that shows how many rounds are left until the next Elections, as it begins to make more and more sense to play at the Tribune spots in the few rounds just before the elections.
F
"A Fine"
– this is one of the 30 Misfortunes in the game. You must pay $150, and if you can't - you'll be arrested.

"A Fortunate Encounter"
– this is one of the cards in the deck. It is played in the Astral Plane, and gives you +8 votes and +2 score, for free (!).
G
the Governor
– you can become the Governor in two ways: by winning the Elections, or by paying the "Usurper" card in the Inferno. The Governor does not pay bribes: neither on the Police, nor on the Bribe spots, which makes it safe & easy to travel via central routes. So it won't cost you anything to go to the Astral Plane (which has 6 Bribe spots along the way). The Governor also does not pay bribes when other players play cards that require everyone (or just some) to pay them.
H
"Hidden Treasure"
– one of the most powerful cards in the game. It offers 6 move points when played to move, and offers $300 for free when played for action in the Treasure. One of the loveliest combinations in the game is when you play "The Stash" in the Dump, use the mechanics of the Dump, then get teleported to the Treasure and play "Hidden Treasure" there, then use the mechanics of the Treasure.

With the best of luck, this will give you +$580:

  • play "The Stash" in the Dump
  • roll 6, earn +$50
  • if you are the poorest player in the game, you get +$30 extra
  • teleport to the Treasure
  • play "Hidden Treasure", earn +$300
  • roll 6, earn +$200
I
the Inferno
– the Inferno is one of the 11 locations in the game. The basic mechanics is that you get $100 +1 malice, and then change all of your cards. This sounds like a good deal, however before you enter the Inferno - and after you exit the location - you need to pass the Misfortune spots, which makes it somewhat risky to go there, unless you don't have anything else going on. In the Inferno you can play some of the most malicious cards: from the cards that removes other player's score ("Devils's Due") to the cards that allow you to become the Governor without the regular election procedure ("Usurper") and to the cards that allow you to arrest one player, make another lose $200 and make yet another lose 2 score points ("Award Ceremony").
J
the Jail
– the Jail is one of the 11 locations in the game. You cannot come here on your own, as the road to the Jail is one-way, and only leads away from that cheerful location. Once you are arrested, you roll the dice to get your sentence (the lower you roll, the longer you'll stay). Then every day you choose your Jail behaviour (Good/Neutral/Bad) and get a Jail event to keep or discard (depending on your Jail rank, you get to discard one or more events). In general, spending time in the Jail is not fun, however once you rank up, you start to get enough benefits to make it worthwhile.
L
Locations
– there are 11 locations in the game. Each location has its own mechanics (sell votes, roll dice to win money, etc.). Unlike moving through the spots, you can stop in any location even if you're using a card that has more move points than required (e.g. you're 2 spots away from the Inferno, and you play a card with 5 move points to move – you can still stop at the Inferno). And unlike the spots, locations allow any number of players to stay at the same place without initiating player conflicts.

In the sequence of how they appear around the playing field, the locations are as follows:

  • the Bank
  • the Office
  • the Plant
  • the Dump
  • the Marketplace
  • the Jail
  • the Inferno
  • the Casino
  • the Court
  • the Treasure
  • the Astral Plane
M
the Marketplace
– the Marketplace is one of the 11 locations in the game. The basic mechanics is that you can sell 1 score point for $200 here, which comes handy for the times when you're down to $0 but have some score to spare. The cards played at the Marketplace are a weird bunch: from criminal to the ones that launch an auction for 3 score points, and to "Fast & Fair" - a card that allows you to move to any spot on the playing field.
O
the Office
– the Office is one of the 11 locations in the game. The basic mechanics is that here you can sell 1 vote for $100 (which is quite nice since normally votes cost much less to acquire, e.g. you can steal 1 vote in the Court for only $40). Most of the cards playable in the Office are somehow tied to using, or gaining, votes. There is also a funny card called "Office Day" (in the deck, there are a few of these) that allows you to play another Office card in the same turn.
P
the Plant
– the Plant is one of the 11 locations in the game. This is where the most powerful cards are played (that cost a lot, and bring a lot of score points). The basic mechanics of this location is that you can skip one turn to earn $50 (which helps if you spent all your money in the Plant, and need a bit extra to play another card in the Dump or in the Marketplace) and lose 1 malice (which might be crucial at the beginning of a session or when you have the same amount of malice as another player but you want for them to have more malice than you do).
R
a round
– a round is when every player in the game makes one turn each. E.g. in a 6-player game, one round would consist of 6 turns (player A, player B, player C, etc.). Each session ends when the current round ends, so that if you play until 20 score, for example, and player A "wins" by scoring 20, player B can still overtake them if within the same round they'll play some card that will drive their score higher, e.g. to 23.
T
the Treasure
– the Treasure is one of the 11 locations in the game. It is located in the upper part of the playing field. It is the only location in the game where you're guaranteed to profit: whether you roll 1 or 6, you get some money (the smaller the number, the less you get). However, at the entrance to the Treasure lies a Misfortune spot, and so you need to either risk passing it, or have a special card prepared for the occasion ("Karma", "Framed!" and similar).

Good guide for beginners but looks outdated and therefore contains some misleading information i.e. amount of malice lost in Astral Plane, cost of increasing the income in the Bank, misfortune in the Dump.
