Introduction
If you are reading this, you are probably wondering: "I chose the Esper, but I don't know what to do with it besides begin Ultima spam?" or "What does Metamorphose do?". If you have these or any questions along the lines, then this guide is for you.

After learning about how Ragnarok works and some of the outcomes, I wanted to find a source to help me to find the Morph outcomes without having to scour through FF Wiki... sadly, there are none, not even on GameFaqs apparently either. So I decided to sacrifice more time to help myself and others.

This guide will show you how to acquire Ragnarok, the mechanics behind it's awesome power and which enemies can be slaughtered and converted into what items.
Acquiring Ragnarok
Prerequisites
You must have the following:
  • Access to the Falcon
  • Locke has returned to your cause
  • Locke is currently in your Active Party

Once you have met the criteria, fly to Narshe and head in. You will find the town is abandoned and the doors are all locked. A pickpocket will tell you this and state you need a treasure hunter to open the doors. Guess what? You have one!

Pick the lock in front of the Weapon shop and head inside, then go behind the counter and head down into the basement. You will find the Weaponsmith has survived the massacre and was too stubborn to leave town. He will then tell you he found a shiny rock and will show it to you. This is the Ragnarok Magicite.

He will then ask you do you want to keep it as Magicite or have it transformed into a sword. Now before you ask yourself the $64,000 Question, I will make it easier and break down the decision: Keep it as Magicite and here is why:
  • This is the only way to Morph items. Period.
  • The Magicite counts towards the Espers Achievement. Turning it into a sword will forbid you from gaining this achievement on this playthrough.
  • It is the easiest access to Ultima at a Rate of x1. The other source is cleansing the Cursed Shield (win 255 battles with it equipped on a non-Gogo or Umaro) and equipping the Paladin Shield
  • Even if you wanted the Sword, you can steal Ragnaroks from Lady from the Third Tier of the Final Boss. You can then gamble these spare Ragnaroks at the Coliseum for Lightbringers. This can be repeated unlimited times.

Once you have claimed the Magicite, you can now begin the process of Morphing monsters for items.
Summoning Ragnarok
Summoning Ragnarok
Summoning Ragnarok is simple. In battle, select Magic, go to the Esper, select Ragnarok and confirm. This ability costs 6 MP to cast and the caster must not be Silenced for this attack to go off.

Once summoned, it will say "Metamorphose" and you will get a message saying:
I dub thee...<<insert item here>>
then Ragnarok will appear and attempt a conversion. If it succeeds, the enemy is killed and the item will be added to your inventory after the battle has concluded. Otherwise, it will say Miss.

Note that some enemies cannot be converted (primarily bosses). Because it is an Esper, it can only be used once per battle. However, there are two ways to circumvent this:
  • Match 3 Bars on Slot and pray Metamorphose reappears
  • Use a Magicite Shard and pray he appears.
  • Have Gogo Mimic right after Ragnarok is summoned. He will resummon for free and will keep targeting. If the enemy is slain, the attack will always fail afterwards.

I obviously recommend doing the 3rd method. So you will need to bring Gogo with you in your party. However, be warned, while you are performing conversions, enemies will still attack you.

Tips
  • Place your entire enemy party under Stop and Sleep. This will keep enemies from fighting back and pacify them. Sleep can be done manually with the Sleep spell and Stop can be done either by manually casting Stop or using Cyan's Eclipse if his Magic Power is low.
  • Unequip any Black Belts and don't bring Umaro or Rage with Gau in your party. Counter attacks and uncontrollable offense is the last thing you need. Failure to do so will cause Mimic to mimic an attack instead and you will lose your Ragnarok chain.
  • Make sure both the Summoner and Gogo have high defenses, along with Ribbons and Safety Bits on. This will allow you to keep Morphing unabated by status effects. The only status effects you will have to be aware of are Stop and Slow.
  • Applying Haste, Shell or Protect from Relics can also be benefical. Especially Haste.
  • If you see multiple enemies that have the same items you want, try to face the more weaker variants if possible. Also, try to aim for enemies that appear more frequently in groups.
Metamorphose - Mechanics
Item Groups
Metamorphose's outcome is both random and fixed. It is fixed in the sense that every enemy in the game is set to a specific Metamorphose group and random in which item is collected upon success.

What separates each enemy is that an accuracy check is performed upon summoning of Ragnarok. It will pick a random number between 0 and 255 and if that item falls within that Monster's range limit (fixed number between 0 and 255), then the attack will pull off. Otherwise, it will fail. On success, it will pick a random item from that associated Group, add it to your inventory and the game will tell you the outcome at the end of the "I dub thee..." line.

There are a total of 32 different Groups and each Group holds 4 items. Some groups have radically different items, some have multiple slots taken up by the same item. Some groups even have items that supposedly appear in limited quantities while others are a dime a dozen at your local Item Shop. Being able to decipher which group has what is the key to using Ragnarok efficiently and properly.

The chance of getting an item you want is calculated by:
Accuracy x 0.25i x 100 Accuracy = Monster's Range Limit (0 to 255) / 256 i = # of times Item appears in that ID (1 to 4)

Group Breakdown - Group 0 (Intro and Medicine)
For the Group breakdown, the number in brackets is the chance of Ragnarok working on this enemy. Factor that into the accuracy check and divide the first number by 4 to get your real odds of getting that item from each group. All enemies are ordered by appearance in game and their odds going from earliest and latest, best to worst.

Group 0
  • Antidote
  • Green Cherry
  • Eye Drops
  • Gold Needle

This group is definitely not worth it. All of these items can be bought at your corner store or appear as drops and steals. Only use these enemies if you are desperate, incredibly stingy or you are doing something like a No Shop Challenge.

Group Breakdown - Group 1 (Medicine)
Group 1
  • Tent
  • Phoenix Down
  • Teleport Stone
  • Holy Water

This group is a hit or miss. It is good if you are you a player who uses Holy Water and Phoenix Downs against Undead a lot, giving you virtually unlimited ammunition to repel them or if you are playing a LLP and you want to save on Raise casts for your team and instant kill an enemy. Other than that, these items, much like Group 0 can be bought at your corner store or collected as spoils.

Teleport Stones are probably the most worthless item here as every enemy in Ebot's Rock drops them and you can learn Teleport from Magicite, but you can sell them for Ammo for Throw.

Tents always help, but you are making enough Gil at late game and you can use the Veldt to maintain low levels and high cash flow if you are doing a LLP.

  • Dried Meat

This group is worthless, but also kinda funny. Mostly wild beasts are on here and some of the things you can turn into Dried Meat range between obvious to that's just wrong. Feel like Dog meat? No problem! Want to eat the squirrels? Why not! Want to live like The Flintstones? Serve up some dinosaur steaks!

However, for LLPs, they can be good substitutes for on the fly Hi-Potions to save on MP.

Group Breakdown - Group 3 (Remedies)
Group 3
  • Remedy
  • Remedy
  • Remedy
  • Remedy

Remedies can save on Esuna casts and are actually pretty expensive for recovery items (1000 Gil/Each) or act as Esuna for people who don't have it yet or don't want it (like Coliseum fighters). They can be your bread and butter status removal and replacement for all the trash from Group 0.

The best place to farm this group is at Darill's Tomb as all but 1 enemy (Borghese) can yield Remedies. Consider heading there if you want to amass these items. Exorays and Malboros appear more frequently in the 2nd room onward so use them as Remedy farms.

If you happen to find any Paraladias and Mandrakes while you are going through your Veldt groups, go ahead and convert at least 1 of them. Their lesser Trillium has a 50% chance of working.

  • Death Warden (32/256)
Group Breakdown - Group 4 (Mythril Stuff)
Group 4
  • Mythril Blade
  • Mythril Armor
  • Mythril Helm
  • Heavy Shield

Mythril Equipment is subpar at this point in the game, but it is easy to spot for the enemies that morph into it, they are all mechanical contraptions.

The only item worth morphing in this Group is the Mythril Blade as you can save these for Throw ammunition for Shadow to save on Impartisans and other high end weapons. Then again, you can always purchase Shuriken at Thamasa for a few Gil each. Or go rob Magna Roaders in the Narshe Caves for more.

Unless you want to either throw Swords at things or add a few bucks, stay clear of this one.

Enemies
  • Belzecue (255/256)
  • Trapper (128/256)
  • Dropper (128/256)
  • Magna Roader (Brown) (128/256)
  • Onion Dasher (128/256)
  • Schmidt (128/256)
  • Junk (128/256)

  • Magitek Armor (64/256)
  • Heavy Armor (64/256)

  • Death Machine (64/256)
  • Metal Hitman (64/256)

  • Satellite (32/256)
  • Magna Roader (Purple) (32/256)
  • Sky Armor (32/256)
Group Breakdown - Group 5 (Golden Stuff)
Group 5
  • Golden Spear
  • Golden Helm
  • Golden Armor
  • Golden Shield

Like Group 4, it is basically going from Mythril to Golden. There isn't much helpful stuff here as you can purchase Golden stuff from the towns along the walking path from Solitary Island to Darill's Tomb.

The only thing worth keeping is Golden Lances for throwing ammunition. You can sell everything else if you get it. If you do want to farm from this Group, Spitfires in the Veldt appear in 2 back to back Groups and Magna Roader Yellows are pretty easy to find.

Enemies
  • Spitfire (64/256)
  • Hell's Rider (64/256)

  • Magna Roader (Yellow) (32/256)
  • Io (32/256)
  • Armored Weapon (32/256)
  • Gamma (32/256)
Group Breakdown - Group 6 (Crystal Stuff)
Group 6
  • Crystal Sword
  • Crystal Shield
  • Crystal Armor
  • Crystal Helm

Crystal Stuff is actually effective in general battle, especially for the split up scenarios in Kefka's Tower, Phoenix Cave or to fill in gaps when you are doing Dragon's Den. Although you can switch around items on the fly, some players find that to be an inconvenience. It is also surprisingly expensive to purchase these items.

Another useful thing about this one is that the Crystal Armor can be used to begin a chain of bets at the Coliseum to get the Dragon's Horn safely:
Crystal Armor (Covert) > Gold Hairpin (Great Malboro) > Dragon's Horn.
The only thing you have to fear here is that Covert can Vanish and a Ribbon will be needed for Great Malboro. It also has a 25% chance each turn to Snort you out.

It is worth noting that 7 of the 8 Dragons are on the card here and can be slain for instant kills with Ragnarok, plus you will still get their drops if they have any. If you plan on using Ragnarok against any of these beasts, make sure you are in good standing before doing so, as some dragons (like Red, Earth and Storm) can punish you hard for your inability to act. Holy Dragon is also the final encounter in the Veldt before it loops back to the beginning of the sequence, so you will always fight one.

If you want safer victims to farm Crystal items off of, roll the Veldt to where the Floating Continent formations start appearing and try to get something with a Behemoth or the 3 Platinum Dragon formations. Be warned, Platinum Dragon is also capable of using Cyclonic when alone (reduces HP to 1/16th on all non-Deathproof characters).

Even if you don't like using Crystal items, they sell for decent money and Shadow can throw Crystal Swords.

Enemies
  • Proto Armor (32/256)
  • Platinum Dragon (32/256)
  • Red Dragon (32/256)
  • Blue Dragon (32/256)
  • Ice Dragon (32/256)
  • Gold Dragon (32/256)
  • Skull Dragon (32/256)
  • Storm Dragon (32/256)
  • Earth Dragon (32/256)
Group Breakdown - Group 7 (Imp Equipment)
Group 7
  • Impartisan
  • Reed Cloak
  • Saucer
  • Tortoise Shield

Imp Equipment may not seem like much, but if you are building Imp characters for battle, they are worth having. Plus, the Impartisan has the highest hitting power of all the throwable weapons in this game and they are easy to acquire more (either Morph these enemies for a 25% chance, slay Tyrannosaurs for a shot, steal from Greater Mantis or bet any spare Cat-Ear Hoods). It is wise to get some Impartisans if you plan of using Shadow for the final or superbosses.

You should also put 1 Impartisan aside to try and face off a Weredragon for a Cat-Ear Hood in the Coliseum. It is arguably the safest method of getting one, unless you are man enough to face a Brachiosaur by giving up a Saucer. You can then give up any spare Cat-Ear-Hoods for the impressive Merit Award, which removes most restrictions with equipment. Want a Gau or Mog to wear a Genji Armor for more stat ups? Now you can!

The con is that all these enemy encounters, except for Cactuar are rare. The spawn frequency of a Tonberry isn't that high in the Yeti Cave and frequently use Traveler to potentially one shot you every turn. The Tonberries are a Monster-In-A-Box there. Both appear in the Veldt but are also mashed up in Groups with other monsters. But if you do encounter a Tonberries, summon Phantom and you cannot be harmed except by Holy counters (which either Reflect before going invisible can block or wearing Reflect Rings before you summon fixes).

Cactuar is also pretty dangerous to try and morph due to the 1000 Needles abuse it is capable of.
Plus, if you talked to the man in town and morphed or killed 10 of them, you may end up facing Gigantuar by accident.

You can also steal the other Imp items from various sources throughout the World Map, but the odds are 12.5% and that is if Locke is Level 50 or higher. I would recommend either stealing the armors or slaying Tyrannosaurs for the weapons.

Enemies
  • Cactuar (32/256)
  • Tonberry (32/256)
  • Tonberries (32/256)
Group Breakdown - Group 8 (Organyx)
Group 8
  • Organyx
  • Potion
  • Potion
  • Potion

The Organyx is a sword that has a Base Power of 182 and breaks if the targets HP after the attack has a one's digit of 9. To compensate for the break chance, every hit will be a critical hit and to cost of MP. It also makes good throwing ammo for Shadow.

It isn't really worth the risk to make the sword unless you are weapon collecting. Besides, if you want cheap Organyxs, you can gamble any of the 3 elemental blades you buy from Maranda or Zantetsuken at the Coliseum and you will win the Sword. But it is worth nothing that gambling this Sword there is the only way to replicate Soul Sabers. You will face the Undead Behemoth King for it.

If you want to farm this enemy, Glasya Labolas appears in 2 different formations up on Mount Zozo. Muud Suud is also effective as it and Movers are the only battles you will find in the area of Kefka's Tower he is found in.

Enemies
  • Hill Gigas (32/256)
  • Gigantos (32/256)
  • Glasya Labolas (32/256)
  • Muud Suud (32/256)
Group Breakdown - Group 9 (Miracle Shoes)
Group 9
  • Miracle Shoes
  • Potion
  • Potion
  • Potion

Miracle Shoes is one of the best buff Relics in the game. It bestows Auto-Haste, Protect, Shell and Regen at the cost of 1 Relic slot. These are perfect when paired with things like Ribbons or Safety Bits for status defenses or things like Master's Scroll and Genji Gloves for faster offense with less risks.

The enemy is also pretty easy to access, the Veil Dancer genus and each have their pros:
  • Veil Dancer isn't very strong for World of Ruin and a Thunder, Force or Paladin Shield can reduce her overall damage, plus she appears in many formations there.
  • Blade Dancer can appear in 2 different formations. 1 with Couerl Cats (which can be morphed into another rare item) and appear in pairs with 2 Crushers. To compensate for this, they throw armor piercing knives at you that get progressively worse.
  • Amduscias appears with nasty enemies, primarily Coverts. However, there are a few enemies there that offer up nice items as well, so you can solve a few problems while you are there.

It is also the safest way to amass the Shoes. The alternative is a dangerous gamble chain in the Coliseum: Elixir (Cactuar) > Rename Card (Fiend Dragon) > Miracle Shoes. The Fiend Dragon has the capacity to Heartless Angel you. It also does Southern and Northern Crosses or just normal attacks you.

If you want to farm exclusively for this Relic, go for Veil Dancer at Zozo. She only appears inside structures.

Enemies
  • Veil Dancer (32/256)
  • Blade Dancer (32/256)
  • Amduscias (32/256)
Group Breakdown - Group 10 (Tintinablum)
Group 10
  • Tintinablum
  • Potion
  • Potion
  • Potion

All this item does is allows you to recover HP as you walk equal to 25% of the holder's Stamina per step. Simple enough. Not many people use this Relic as you can simply Curaga yourself or acquire them via Mobliz, Tonberry drops and achieving the final reward at the Imperial Palace dinner with your conduct.

But why farm them? 2 words: Growth Eggs. You can gamble any spare Tintinablums for Growth Eggs at the Coliseum and all you face is a Dark Force. Because the alternative for using Morphing is the following:
  • Bet Megalixir and face Siegfried. He has access to some fatal moves like Hyperdrive at the cost of being weak against everything. Plus, Megalixirs are expensive and not easy to come by.
  • Bet Growth Eggs and face Muud Suud. With 20000 HP, it may take awhile for a character to take him down, plus it has Blaster. Also, you are just backtracking doing this. That isn't what you want!
  • Bet Miracle Shoes and face Tyrannosaur. I consider this one a downgrade, plus even with high end armor, Tyrannosaur can do 5000 damage with Bite.

The best place to farm them is Owzer's Mansion as there is a formation of Blade Dancers with 4 Couerl Cats. Slay the Dancer and then summon Phantom to protect yourself from the Cats. Note that they will break Vanish with Fireball if there is 1 left.

Megalixir
  • Megalixir
  • Potion
  • Potion
  • Potion

Meglixirs are the ultimate cure-all. You will get full HP and full MP recovery, saving yourself from nasty attacks like surviving Ultima or getting slammed by Heartless Angel and want to get everyone back on their feet fast!

The catch: The odds of morphing one are ridiculously low and 2 not-so common enemies have them. Although they are docile in Cultist Tower, Magic Urns are prone to fleeing but are sadly easier to find, plus some of the higher Magic Levels have other rare items.

Intangir is probably your safest option. Once hit with Stop, you have 40 seconds to get as many Ragnarok attempts as you can before it breaks and he calls down a Meteor strike. With enough Magic Evasion, this attack can be avoided at least (hit rate of 80). If your health is getting low, just Alt-F4, restart the game, reload your save with Continue and it will always be your next encounter in the Veldt. Plus, the beast has 0 Speed and will only respond when attacked.

With this in tandem with Kefka runs, you shouldn't have too much trouble having Megalixirs at the ready. Don't forget to put 1 aside to try your hand at Siegfried.

Group Breakdown - Group 14 (Elixirs)
Group 14
  • Elixir

Elixirs fully restore the vitals of 1 person, saving on a Drain and Osmose cast or Curaga in the heat of battle. They are also used to pay Red Glutturns to prevent them from going all out Ultima and Heartless Angel on you. It is definitely worth to have some on standby.

The issue with Elixirs is that the sources for them are scattered throughout, both steals and morphing. They range from the Veldt, to Kefka's Tower to even the Ancient Castle region.

There are many places to try. The safest is obviously the Veldt as Apocrypha and Dragon shouldn't be too difficult. Just remember to Stoplock the Dragon so it doesn't Snort Gogo out. Try and steal from Dragons before you morph them as they carry Genji Gloves that can make Thunder Shields or used for combat. Also, watch for the Level spells Apocrypha spams at Last Stand.

Another safe location is the South Figaro Caves as Cruller isn't too threatening if you have Confuseproofing. You can also morph Dante into another effective item.

You can also try the Phoenix Cave as Faces appear in groups with other monsters. Just watch for their 1000 Needles Last Stands.

Ancient Castle also has 2 easily accessible species that can be morphed into Elixirs, Devil and Enuos.

If you also encounter any of the Kefka's Tower enemies that make Elixirs, try and Morph them if you can.

Group Breakdown - Group 16 (Genji Gloves)
Group 16
  • Genji Glove
  • Potion
  • Potion
  • Potion

Genji Gloves are a Relic that let you wield 2 weapons at once, essentially doubling your offensive capability at the cost of a shield (which you can then compensate with something like a Swordbreaker for 30% Evasion). It is an effective Relic for battle.

Also, if you got too many spares, they can be gambled at the Coliseum against an easy Demon Knight for Thunder Shields, which supplies the wielder with Thunder absorption, Wind immunity, and Fire and Ice Resistance. If you want more armor, you can gamble these for Genji Shields against an Outsider. If you face this one, make sure you got plenty of Physical Evasion as Dispatch can OHKO and ignore Deathproofing. I prefer keeping them as Thunder Shields myself.

The problem? You face off against 2 very brutal Samurai-class enemies. The Samurai can potentially stop your Ragnarok streak by using Slay (instant kill and ignores Deathproofing) while Yojimbo can do ~1000 damage an attack and can Eye For An Eye the person who kills him. Luckily, Ragnarok delays that action a turn so Yojimbo will fall without doing his move. You can also Steal Genji Gloves from various enemies, the easiest being Dragons in the Veldt and you can legitimately pick up 3 throughout the game.

The choice for this one is yours.

Monsters
  • Samurai (32/256)
  • Yojimbo (32/256)

Group Breakdown - Group 17 (Safety Bit)
Group 17
  • Safety Bit
  • Potion
  • Potion
  • Potion

The Safety Bit is a very helpful Relic as it is the only means for your characters to get Deathproofing and Doomproofing, which a lot of enemies, especially Kefka Tower, Dragons' Den and Soul Shrine enemies abuse. It also prevents you from racing against the clock for Cloudy Heaven as the timer is Doom. It also protects from Zombie outside of Cloudy Heaven KOs. Note that the Memento Ring behaves the same way, the only difference is that the Safety Bit isn't restricted to just Shadow and Relm.

Plus, Morphing is the only way to collect spares as you legitimately only get 2: 1 from the Cultist Tower and the other from a rare steal on Fiend. So you will have to work to acquire them.

The Morph pool is also not too bad: The Jester Genus. However, I would advise against using the Cultist Tower enemies as both Level 60 and 90 are the most dangerous of the casters. 60 has access to Tornado and 90 has access to some of the most devastating offensive spells imaginable.

Go for Baalzephon if you also want to try mixing some Zone Eater Belly morphs (Amduscias has the Miracle Shoes) or Clymenus if you want something more managable as all you need for her is Fire immunity or absorption and they can appear in groups up to 3. Lunatys also appears in groups and you can mix them in with Enuos and Devils for Elixirs if you wish. Just watch for Lunatys' Meteor.

You will have to use Cyan's Eclipse to stop Lunatys and Clymenus as they are both under Auto-Reflect.

If you have any spare Safety Bits, you can bet them at the Coliseum for Dragon's Horn. However, you must face off against a Tonberry who can use Knife (Attack x 8) and counters any direct attacks with Traveler, even if the attack is fatal against it.

Enemies
  • Clymenus (32/256)
  • Baalzephon (32/256)
  • Lunatys (32/256)
  • Level 60 Magic (32/256)
  • Level 90 Magic (32/256)
Group Breakdown - Group 18 (Growth Egg)
Group 18
  • Growth Egg
  • Potion
  • Potion
  • Potion

The Growth Egg is a Relic that increases experience gain to that character by 50%, allowing for quicker leveling with fewer battles. It is often paired with the leveling at the Islands or Dinosaur Forest to quickly get characters to max level. However, you only legitimately get 1 at Darill's Tomb and most people save it for the end so they can do all their characters together.

If you want spares, you got two options: You can either Morph Tintinabulums off the Cat genus and gamble those at the Coliseum, or you can hunt down the 3 birds and morph them. The Tintinabulum wager isn't too difficult (Dark Force).

Galypdes only appears in one formation and it isn't very common there (Phoenix Cave First Floor). Your best and safest bet is to hang around Kohlingen and get a Marchosias to fight you. Wear Wind protection as it can use Aero against you.

Vasegiatta is another option if you have enough Deathproofing. The beast has a chance to use Cyclonic when solo and only Safety Bits and Memento Rings can stop the attack. To compensate for this, the bird isn't Stopproof.

You should try to get 1 to 3 more so you don't have to have people compete for Eggs.

Enemies
  • Marchosias (32/256)

Group Breakdown - Group 19 (Ribbons)
Group 19
  • Ribbon
  • Potion
  • Potion
  • Potion

Ribbons, like Safety Bits are also a godsend. This Relic protects you from Blind, Confuse, Imp, Berserk, Sleep, Poison, Sap and Zombie all in 1. It is extremely helpful against status effect abusing monsters like Skull Dragon, Malboros, the Yellow Glutturns, etc.

Although you can find enough spares for a complete party, 2 of them can easily be missed: If you forgot the one inside South Figaro's basement (which you can still get) and you were too hasty and you took the Rune Blade from the chest at Mog's house instead of leaving it there for the World of Ruin (which upgades into a Ribbon). It also doesn't hurt to have more for the split up sections so you don't waste time having to move equipment around between characters.

Although you can steal them from Guardian and Ultima Weapon, these are Rare Steals (the former being near the end of the game and the latter is a 12.5% chance, odds are you got an Elixir). You can also steal from Brachiosaur, but it is an extremely dangerous opponent to fight as you will probably focus on destroying it rather than stealing it.

Luckily, you can morph the Women Caster genus into them and Pandora. However, Misty is a 1 time fight and then moves to the Veldt, Level 80 Magic is on one of the most brutal levels and Cherry pairs up with Ahriman and Outsiders to form dangerous parties. Plus, she can counter with Meteor and cast all kinds of dangerous spells if left unchecked. Luckily, Cherry can be Imped and she will do nothing.

Your best bet is Coco and Pandora as not only they appear together in the Dreamscape, but Pandora can appear in groups. If you have done the Dreamscape already, don't worry, you can still face Coco at the Ancient Castle courtyard along with a Samurai and Suriander. If you get lucky with Samurai, you can score Genji Gloves. Before you leave the Dreamscape, make sure your Ribbon supply is adequate.

Group Breakdown - Group 20 (Flame Shield)
Group 20
  • Flame Shield
  • Potion
  • Potion
  • Potion

The Flame Shield allows you to absorb Fire and nullify Ice, but you get a crippling Water weakness. It also teaches Fira at a rate of x5 and will cast Firaga if used as an item, at the cost of the Shield itself. However, when you face off against high powered Fire enemies, you will be glad you have these. The shield helps against competition for the Force and Paladin Shields or Minerva Bustiers as well.

You legitimately collect 2 in the game (Locke has one when he rejoins and the Dreamscape has another). You can also make spares by betting Falchions, but you have to face the Outsider, who can use Dispatch, which bypasses Deathproofing to instant kill.

Any spare Flame Shields you have can be transfered into Ice Shields at the Coliseum, for the cost of facing a really simple Metal Hitman. Then swapped back by facing an InnoSent.

Luckily, the Bomb genus appears in groups up to 6 in the Veldt (if you paid a visit to Bomb Forest and did so), plus Balloons can be fought in groups of up to 4 and 6. They shouldn't be too threatening at this point in the game, but you should slap down Shell or put on a Red Jacket for Sabin and Edgar and have them start the Ragnarok Chain for Gogo. Gogo should use something that protects him from Fire to be safe.

The Grenade will explode if struck by anything melee, plus it will try and provoke you with Mesmerize (Berserk) to pre-maturely set it off. Wear Peace Rings or Stop and/or Sleep it to keep it docile.

You can try Chimera if you wish, but they don't appear too often (only 3 possible formations: 2 in Veldt and 1 in Dragons' Den).

Monsters
  • Bomb (32/256)
  • Grenade (32/256)
  • Balloon (32/256)
  • Chimera (32/256)
Group Breakdown - Group 21 (Ice Shield)
Ice Shield
  • Ice Shield
  • Potion
  • Potion
  • Potion

The Ice Shield allows the person to have the Snow Scarf (absorbs Ice, nulls Fire), but at the cost of a Wind weakness. It also teaches you Blizzara at a Rate of x5 and will cast Blizzaga if used as an item, at the cost of scrapping the Shield. The shield helps against competition for the Force and Paladin Shields or Minerva Bustiers as well.

This shield is extremely effective against enemies who abuse Northern and Southern Crosses as this freeze rarely works if you absorb Ice. In the event you do actually get Frozen, Fire won't harm you. It is also safer to morph enemies into them then face off against an annoying Covert.

If you also need spare Flame Shields, you can face InnoSent at the Coliseum to switch Ice Shields to Flame. Then face Metal Hitmen to make them Ice again. They are interchangeable.

The best place to farm them hands down is Narshe. The Test Rider is actually a relatively easy enemy to find on the streets and morph into Ice Shields. You can also Vanish your party as the only offense Test Rider is capable of is physical, just watch for Lukhavi Snowstorms when you are farming. Gorgimera is a rare spawn, relies heavily on elemental attacks and is immune to all status effects.

Monsters
  • Gorgimera (32/256)
  • Test Rider (32/256)
Group Breakdown - Group 22 (Thunder Shield)
Group 22
  • Thunder Shield
  • Potion
  • Potion
  • Potion

The Thunder Shield absorbs Lightning, nullifies Wind and resists Ice and Fire with no side effects. It also teaches you Thundara at a rate of x5 and will cast Thundaga if used as an item, at the cost of the Shield itself. I find this to be one of the most effective Shields in the game and thanks to Morphing, it is easy to mass produce as the only other enemy you can get spares off of is rare stealing Muud Suud and you only 2 through out the game: 1 in Zone Eater's Belly and another at Mount Zozo.

Another reason to consider getting this shield is it can be gambled at the Coliseum to make Genji Shields, which have the highest Defense stats for non-unique Shields. However, you must try your luck against an Outsider as there is no other way to acquire it (except for 1 in Cultist Tower and another from a rare steal on Gilgamesh, who is level 97). Plus it is a hell of a lot safer to Morph these as the alternative is to morph Genji Gloves against instant killer Samurai genus enemies or steal from Dragons, then gamble them. Steal against Dragon has a 33% chance to trigger Snort and ruin your plans as well.

Dante is arguably the safest monster to challenge of the 2 as it is an enemy commonly fought in South Figaro Caves, plus you can also try to morph Crullers for an Elixir. Vector Chimeras' only advantage is they can be fought in pairs in Kefka's Tower. The choice is yours.

Monsters
  • Dante (32/256)
  • Vector Chimera (32/256)
Group Breakdown - Group 23 (Cursed Items)
Group 23
  • Cursed Ring
  • Cursed Ring
  • Thornlet
  • Lich Ring

The Cursed Items all bestow negative effects when worn:
  • The Cursed Ring is a Relic that applies Doom, but you learn Banish at a rate of x5
  • Thornlets have high defense stats, but inflict Sap to the user
  • Lich Ring makes you Death and Doomproof, but you become Undead in the process

Morphing is the only way to get Cursed Rings. Thornlets can be rare stolen from Hidon, but you can fight him over and over by talking to Gungho over and over until he tells you Hidon came back and the Lich Ring only appears once and you cant get spares until Dragons' Den.

Now ask yourself. Why would I want to morph this crap? Simple: They make better things at the Coliseum:
  • Cursed Rings can make the Air Anchor without having to go to Cultist Tower to get it. Plus, they sell for a high markup. You just have to take down a 20,000 HP Muud Suud to do it.
  • Thornlets can make Mirage Vests, which adds 6 speed and is the only way outside of Fenrir and Shadow to have Image status. These help against physically dominant enemies by giving you some breathing room to kill them or setup buffs. You just need to face an Aspidochelon to convert them.
  • Lich Rings can make spare Ward Bangles, which is half as effective as Molulu's Charm but it helps for LLPs and split scenarios, especially if you didn't get one during the Vector Dinner. All you have to face is a Death Machine.

If you have Deathproofing, Ahriman and Daedalus appear in the Palace portions of Kefka's Tower. Plus Ahriman appear in flocks of 2 with Cherry (who can be morphed for Ribbons) and 3s. You can also go through the Veldt and Behemoth King (Undead) will appear just before Holy Dragon for a shot at Morphing, plus you can get spare Behemoth Suits to gamble for 2 more Snow Scarves.

This morph group is all about taking lemons and making them into lemonade.

Monsters
  • Daedalus (32/256)
  • Ahriman (32/256)
  • Behemoth King (Undead) (32/256)
Group Breakdown - Group 24 (Pure Items)
Group 24
  • Angel Ring
  • Angel Ring
  • Safety Bit
  • Guard Bracelet

These items are the polar opposite of the Cursed Items. However the issue here is that the Angel Ring (Auto-Regen) and Guard Bracelet (Auto-Shell and Protect) are outclassed by the Miracle Shoes, which are morphed off an easier to find group of enemies. What you really want from this group are the Safety Bits, which make you Death, Doom and Zombieproof.

However, Angel Rings can sell for a decent markup and the Guard Bracelets can be gambled at the Coliseum for Hero's Rings, which buffs all damage output by 25%. Depending on the actions you committed in the game, you might have missed this Ring (You get 1 from the Dragon's Neck Cabin in a jar and another if you left the chest on the 2F in South Figaro Cave unopened for the World of Balance). You just have to put up with a Demon Knight to make the transfer.

Another helpful thing to note here is that 2 of the enemies are actually beneficial for morphing. The Holy Dragon always appears at the end of the Veldt chain before going back to the beginning. So, if you fail to morph the Safety Bit or Guard Bracelet, you can Alt-F4 the game, reload your Quick Save and try again. Worst case, you can steal some Holy Lances and have Holy ammunition for Shadow.

The Alluring Rider fights alongside Coco, who can be morphed into Ribbons, which compensates for the downtime if you are there for Ribbons. The Dreamscape truly is the Morph Promised Land!

Monsters
  • Alluring Rider (32/256)
  • Holy Dragon (32/256)

Group Breakdown - Group 25 (Assassin Items)
Group 25
  • Viper Darts
  • Viper Darts
  • Assassin's Dagger
  • Ichigeki

All this group is mostly for is more ammunition for Shadow to throw. All these weapons also have a 25% chance to instant kill the enemy (or stopping it in the case of Ichigeki). This is also the only way to collect a spare Assassin's Dagger and Ichigeki for dual wielding.

The only reason you should be morphing for these is more, high-powered ammunition for Shadow or you just want to get rid of some pesky Ninjas before they become a far worse threat.

Enemies
  • Ninja (32/256)
  • Covert (32/256)
  • Outsider (32/256)
Conclusion
And there you go, one centralized Morph Guide, saving hours of translations from SNES to GBA and browsing through FF Wiki and other guides for a Morph List.

Hopefully, you learned more about the Esper you are wielding, besides the fact it teaches you Ultima!

Good luck! You will definitely need it!

Excuse me but Behemoth is in the wrong place; it should be in Group 14, not Group 6.

Tintinablum: "the only way to achieve one without using the Coliseum and Morphing is from the World of Balance for performing well at the Emperor's dinner party."

You can also get one from the wounded soldier in Mobliz during Sabin's path.

Gogo I used for fighting Cactuar in the Colisseum only, really anyone with a Master's scroll would do, I guess
Bamethyst38  [author] 17 Apr, 2020 @ 5:52pm
Yes, but the thing is Gogo cannot wear the Snow Scarf as he cannot use the Merit Award either. One Bite and it takes a chunk of HP off. You also dont have back row access if you get pincer by them.

Also, I can't rate your guide since I have only bought the android version, not the Steam one. Apparently they're identical, I've read

Awesome guide! Just what I was looking for, really. Just a few things, Tyrannosaurus is actually pretty easy to fight for Growth Egg, just use Mog in the back row with Snow Muffler and bite will do nothing, though he might take a while killing the T. Rex if he dances. Also I traded all my elixirs for Miracle Shoes, killed the Fiend Dragon with both Umaro with both his relics and Shadow with Flame shield/Master's Scroll, lost hardly ever, Cactuar got done in by Gogo with Master's scroll
