Introduction
DESPOTIC'S GUIDE TO HITMAN (TM) BETA
Version 1.0

I have played the entire Hitman series to death and been a fan since Codename 47. Needless to say, since 2006, I've been thirsty for more, and what we were given in 2012 was anything but Hitman. It's been so long, it's no surprise that I was so excited about the new Hitman Beta and I couldn't help but play the hell out of it and write a guide detailing all of my findings for other enthusiasts and new hitmen and hitwomen alike. I have tried my best to put everything in a format that is easy to follow and illustrates the richness of the game by displaying all kinds of ways to achieve your objectives. That said, this is my first guide that will be published on Steam, so please help me with comments and constructive criticism, and feel free to suggest additions as well.

I want to give credit to Guybrush Threepwood, a guide writer who always inspired me to write this kind of stuff. I will be using his methods-pros-cons structure as well. If you're still out there, Guybrush, thanks for the hilarious times I had reading your guides and hope to see your Hitman guide soon!

I hope you find the guide informative and entertaining! Enjoy, and may your contracts never go sour!

Your fellow Hitman,

Despotic.
MISSION 1 – FREEFORM TRAINING - Disguises
Mechanic – Can access the crew deck (Deck 00) and the main deck (Deck 01), but not allowed on the private deck (Deck 02) or the helipad. The perk is that no one other than the mechanic near the car ramp will recognize you, and he’ll pretty much always have his back to you anyway. This is a good transitional disguise until you can get something better.

Sailor – Can go anywhere except the target’s office and bedroom, but both the sailor near the gangway and the target himself will see through your disguise, so exercise caution. In spite of this, you can very easily beat the mission with this outfit. You need this outfit if you want to tamper with drinks without rousing suspicion.

Mr. Norfolk – Can go anywhere, and no one can see through this disguise. Pretty much the disguise to end all disguises, and also opens up some kill opportunities.

Security – Can go anywhere except the target’s office and bedroom, but there’s a lot of cops and bodyguards that will see through this disguise. Not recommended.

Bodyguard – Can go anywhere, but hard to get. You can’t obtain this outfit cleanly without entering the target’s private room either, which is the only place where this disguise is useful anyway. (You can open the door of the private room and drop a coin inside, then hide and KO the bodyguard when he isn’t looking.)

None – Only allowed on the pier. You can sneak quite far into the crew deck without a disguise, but ultimately, you’ll need to go to the private deck, and you can’t do it without getting a disguise.
MISSION 1 - Step 1: Going to a Party
Method A – Handy Hitman

Infiltrate the cargo storage either via the window or through the back hall next to the escape car. Sneak as soon as you see the prompt “Trespassing”, and you’ll see a lone mechanic working with his back to you. Well, that’s Hitman’s way of offering you a free disguise, isn’t it? Take it. You can leave the body where it lies, as nobody comes through here, but if you want to tie up all loose ends, feel free to hide him behind the piles of objects or in the bathroom. With this outfit, you can just waltz down the car ramp into the crew deck. You can also easily get the spare sailor outfit after getting past the three mechanics near the ramp.

PROS – Quick and easy.
CONS – None, except the necessity to change again in order to complete the mission.

Method B – Underpaid Cops

There are two cops right in front of your starting position, with another one right behind them in a booth. Taking out the booth guard directly will alert the other two, but we can always give him…incentives to leave his position. Go toward the crates to the right of the booth and throw a coin in the corner. Make sure you don’t throw it too far, as it will clip through the wall and land inside the booth, therefore getting wasted. Anyway, once the booth guard comes your way, subdue him and take his clothes and gun. Leave the body where it is, and remember that one of the remaining cops will see through your disguise, either avoid him or throw a coin to distract him before moving out from behind the boxes.

PROS – Easy.
CONS – Not the best disguise, since a lot of people will see through it. The coin clipping bug can make you lose your coin.

Method C – One Stop Shopping

In this method, we’ll be going for the spare sailor outfit in the crew deck without a disguise. Grab the lock pick at the start and pick the door to the right side of the ship, near where the three cops are. Move through the gate and onto the ship. Start sneaking as there is a guard next to the railing up ahead. You can ignore him and make a left into the storage room, or you can KO him, tamper with the generator to distract him or shove him into the water. If you KO him, hide him in the closet next to the door leading to the storage room (you can take his clothes as well, if you wish). Now enter the storage room and go into Instinct mode. Watch the closest cop. As soon as he starts patrolling towards the left, open the door and sneak into the corridor on the right. Enter the first door on your right and move through the rooms to the end, where you will find a spare sailor outfit on a chair.

PROS – Quick and stealthy fun, and a very good disguise to boot.
CONS – Narrow window to get past the patrolling cop in the crew deck, but you can simply KO the generator cop and take his clothes if it’s too hard for you, then walk over to the spare outfit as if you owned the place.
MISSION 1 - Optional Step: Need an Exterminator
The rat poison is in the small room next to the spare outfit room(make a right after leaving the room through the door) on a stack of planks. This item allows you several extra options to kill the target. Take it. The only thing to watch out for is the patrolling cop described in Step 1, Method C, and only if you’re dressed as a sailor. As long as you go through the door instead of out to the corridor and use the stairs next to the three mechanics in the garage, you shouldn’t be spotted.

PROS – Opens up some hilarious kill opportunities.
CONS – None.
MISSION 1 - Step 2: The Death of Art
Method A – An Ill-Fated Meeting

You can get up to the private deck as long as you’re wearing a sailor or cop outfit (and the bodyguard, but you can’t cleanly obtain one without getting to this deck, so let’s ignore it). If you’re the cop, beware of the multiple disguise-recognizing cops and guards in the area. Once up there, head to the target’s private office. On the left side of the ship, there is an open window leading into the room, with the two cops nearby facing the wrong way. Climb in through the window and wait either at the corner or in the target’s bedroom. When Norfolk meets the target, they will walk to the office and Norfolk will start talking while the target starts using the computer. Norfolk will turn around once or twice during his talk, so don’t pounce immediately. Once he gets to the part about a revolution, you’re clear. Sneak out and kill the target. As long as the body remains behind the desk, nobody will find it, but if you want, you can drag it near the window where you entered the room, or into his private room (there’s also a closet there). Get out of the room the way you came in, before Norfolk gets suspicious.

PROS – Very easy and clean.
CONS – You’ll need to wait a while before Norfolk and the target come to the private room.

Method B – Hiring a Thief

We’ll go for Norfolk (the guy in the white suit wearing a cowboy hat) in this method. Obtain a sailor uniform in the manner of your choosing – the easiest is the spare outfit in the crew deck (Step 1, Method C), but if you’re already on the main deck, you can also KO the lone sailor in the galley, take his clothes and put him in the nearby freezer. Norfolk will drink a glass of wine at the bar while asking the barman about the target, but we need something to poison it with. Take the rat poison from the crew deck if you haven’t already, and head to the bar area. Poison the glass right in front of the barman and go aft to the ladies’ restroom. Yeah, you heard me. The men’s room is perpetually occupied, so Norfolk will go to the ladies’ room after he starts getting stomach cramps. He doesn’t mind your presence at all, so sneak up behind him as he’s throwing up, make sure the door is closed, and subdue him. Alternatively, you could always wire him or drown him in the toilet, but he’s not a target, so let’s not (pity). Take his clothes and place him comfortably in the closet in the ladies’ restroom.

Now we have all the time in the world to do whatever we want, and no one will ever see through our disguise. Head on up to the private deck and talk to the target. He will lead you to his office, and his bodyguard will wait outside. He’ll even get on the computer and expose his back for a long time. Garrote, bullet to the head, snapped neck, everything works. There’s no need to hide the body, but you can hide it in the closet in the bedroom if you want to.

PROS – Even easier than the previous method, as you don’t need to worry about the real Norfolk. It’s faster than waiting for Norfolk to meet the target by himself. You can also just walk down the gangway to escape, which is not an option when dressed as a sailor.
CONS – You need to get to the bar and poison the drink before Norfolk arrives, which can be difficult if you don’t know where you’re going. If he’s already come and gone, you can’t use this method.

Method C – A Bad Way To Go

Instead of poisoning Norfolk and using his clothes, it’s also possible to poison the target and try out that super cool drown-in-the-toilet move on him. After talking to the barman, the target will go up to the private deck and talk to his fiancée while repeatedly drinking wine. The glass you want is the one next to his fiancée, the woman with the fawn-colored draped dress and the black heels. You can either get there before he does and poison it, or once he’s there, wait for him to turn his back (he’ll look over the railing for quite a while when he talks with his wife-to-be) and poison it. Remember that he sees through the sailor disguise, though, and you need the sailor disguise to poison drinks without everybody getting suspicious. After he drinks the poisoned wine, follow him to the toilet, keeping a respectful distance to avoid detection. Once he starts puking, sneak up behind him and kill him however you fancy the deed, but I just love the drown-in-the-toilet move-it’s so satisfying. Hide him in the closet when you’re done.

PROS – You can drown him in a toilet. It’s nice to have some private time. And you can drown him in a toilet. It’s pretty clean. And you can drown him in a toilet.
CONS – You need to get to the private deck rather quickly to poison the wine before the target arrives. If you arrive later, it can be quite easy to have your cover blown while trying to poison the wine.

Method D – Crashing The Party

Hmm, they left remote explosives for us at the start… And it’s been a long time since Blood Money (Absolution never happened). Don’t you get the urge to blow somebody up? So let’s do it! Grab the remote explosives and immediately retreat to the shed near the start point (the cops will become suspicious if you don’t). Holster the bomb, and get to the target’s office in the manner of your choosing (see Method A for tips). Set the bomb underneath his desk and hang out near the stairs with the two cops standing guard. As soon as the target is in position at the computer, hit the detonator. Make sure you exit the level as quickly as possible, since everybody will start looking for the perpetrator and the guards will be extremely alert and suspicious.

PROS – Ka-boom! Haven't blown up anybody in a while.
CONS – The body will be found, and the guards will be alerted. If you set the bomb too far forward, Norfolk may also get killed. Not the end of the world, but real Hitmen and Hitwomen only kill their targets, right?

Method E – Takes a Life As Well As It Can Save It

You can drop a life raft on the target’s head while he’s drinking next to his fiancée. You need a crowbar to drop it, which can be found in the small enclosed area next to the helipad, or in the storage room in the crew deck. You will also need a sailor, cop or Norfolk outfit to get up to the helipad. Once you’re there, you’ll see a single cop patrolling the helipad. He needs to go, since if you don’t get rid of him, he will definitely blow your cover when you try to drop the life raft. You can distract him with a coin, or you can leave your pistol lying around so that he carries it to the weapon box at the back of the helipad, or you can simply sneak up on him and KO him (I recommend having him find a weapon so he presents his back for a clean KO). Once he’s out of the equation, locate the target in Instinct mode. As he reaches for the wine, start loosening the life raft. You’ll get about a million warnings that you’re about to be spotted, but don’t worry, you’re clear. Once the deed is done, walk away to avoid suspicion.

You can also place a bomb on the life raft and then blow it up manually. This makes it easier to time the drop and gets you away from the scene of the explosion so that it's much easier to avoid suspicion, but you'll most likely have to KO the cop upstairs and drag him as far away as possible to avoid him getting caught in the blast by accident. Another problem is that people sometimes see you from downstairs while you're dragging his body. I prefer the crowbar, but it's your call.

PROS – Cool and counts as an accident. The chopper is right next to you for immediate escape.
CONS – Somewhat narrow window of opportunity. You also need to deal with the cop.
MISSION 1 - Step 3: Getting Off and Away
Method A: Convenient

The easiest way to escape is to go all the way up to the helipad and use the button next to the helicopter. If you haven’t raised suspicion already, it should be an easy trek up there.

PROS – Super easy.
CONS – None.

Method B: Like a Boss

Alternatively, you can use the gangway to get off the boat and back to the car near your starting point. Beware if you’re dressed as a sailor, though, as the sailor at the end of the gangway will see through your disguise.

PROS – Also very easy.
CONS – It’s not an option if you’re dressed as a sailor.

Method C: Exit Sailor

To get off the boat as the sailor, you can simply go back down to the crew deck and use the car ramp, then go out the cargo area window or through the back corridor to get to the car.

PROS – Again, very easy, and can be done in any disguise.
CONS – A bit of a detour.

Method D: Classic Escape

There's a boat near the bow of the ship, which you may have come across if you used Method C to tackle Step 1. In any disguise, you can just walk over there and escape without the need to worry about anyone.

PROS - I'm sick of saying this, but it's very, very, VERY easy. Your outfit doesn't matter.
CONS - None.
MISSION 2 - THE FINAL TEST - Disguises
Security: Only welcome outside and on the ground floor. It’s easy to get, and quite useful for walking around the hangar as long as you avoid the security officers watching TV, the guard at the entrance to the main building, and the officer behind the counter with the slides. This is a good transitional disguise to learn the level, but not necessary when playing for keeps.

Mechanic: Can go anywhere except the roof and the radio room, but hard to get without getting another disguise before it. The only people to be wary of are the two mechanics in the main hangar.

Soviet Soldier: Can go anywhere, but beware of strategically placed soldiers who will recognize you as an impostor. This outfit is easy to get, and the disguise of choice in this mission.

Colonel: Can go anywhere, and no one will ever see through your disguise unless you get caught doing naughty things. It has no drawbacks except being a bit time consuming and unnecessary to get.

None: You’re only allowed outside the military airbase in your civilian garb (duh). However, there is a way to do the entire mission without changing clothes at all. More on this later.
MISSION 2 - Step 1: Getting In
Method A – They Really Should Fix That Barbed Wire

If you go left at the start, you’ll eventually see two mechanics talking about the ejector seat safety protocols. Near them is a section of fence that lacks barbed wire. Jump on over and you’re in. Just make sure they’re not facing you.

PROS – Quick and easy.
CONS – None, I just wish there were more ways to do it.

Method B – The Almighty Coin, Part 1

There is a lone security guard in the guard booth at the main gate whom you can lure outside by throwing a coin. Stand behind the crates way to the right of the starting point. You can toss the coin to the right of the booth door so that he’ll come to investigate. Alas, if you take him out there, the other guard next to the gate will immediately spot the action. We need to lure him further away from his post; throw a coin behind the truck. Sometimes, he won’t notice it, so throw more coins until he comes to investigate. You can safely KO him behind the truck and no one will notice, even if the car alarm goes off. I don’t know why they don’t come to investigate, but they won’t. Take his clothes, and walk through the left side of the barrier, not through the booth. One of the guards at the main gate will recognize you if you let him, so avoid his line of sight.

PROS – None, but at least it’s something different to do.
CONS – Roundabout, time consuming and at times unreliable. You could argue that it nets you a disguise, but this disguise is much easier to get elsewhere and doesn’t accomplish much on its own.

METHOD C - Lower Fence, Enter Hitman

At the start, go around the truck to the right and keep walking. When you get to the fence, you'll see yet another section missing barbed wire. Vault on over and sneak. Stay near the fence; behind the cars is good enough. Amazingly, the lobby entrance guards can't see you sneak through here. The only downside is that you can't go to the left side of the building without alerting the guards.

PROS - Very easy.
CONS - Restrictive. You will need to use Method D or E for the next step; however, both are very good ways to solve that challenge, so it's not so bad.
MISSION 2 - Step 2: Blending In
Method A – Always Turn Your Back on the Point of Entry

Follow the mechanics described in Step 1, Method A, staying behind the cars for cover. Behind the last car is another coin to pick up. The mechanics will go through a security checkpoint. The only guard at this gate is terribly incompetent and will stand with his back to you at all times. However, a patrolling soldier nearby complicates things somewhat. Wait for him to show up and turn his back, then sneak out from behind the car and grab the security guard. You can hide him in the box to the left after you take his clothes and gun.

PROS – Much easier than the other method to get a security guard outfit. Quick and clean.
CONS – It’s not the best disguise in the world.

Method B – Come To My Office

Get to the checkpoint as in Method A, but leave the security guard alone. Once the patrolling guard turns his back, climb in through the booth window and back out on the other side. Advance along the side of the hangar using the crates and barrels for cover until you’re almost behind the stationary soldier. Now, this looks like an open invitation to KO him as soon as his patrolling buddy turns his back, but this won’t work because there’s a guard patrolling the roof that will spot you (the floodlights make it very hard to see him unless you use Instinct mode). Since we can’t get to him, let’s make him come to us! Hide behind the farthest stack of barrels and throw a coin behind the boxes right in front of you. Make sure the patrolling guard is far away so he won’t join his friend’s investigation. Once the soldier is behind the barrels, sneak out and KO him. Help yourself to his uniform. You can leave him where he is, as the patrolling soldier will never look behind the boxes, but if you’re a neat freak or going for the Silent Assassin challenge, there’s a box to the right where you can dump him. Just make sure the patrolling guard doesn’t see you leave, as he will see through your disguise.

PROS – A very handy outfit to have.
CONS – You need to time your strike well to avoid getting spotted by your victim and the patrols.

Method C – The Almighty Coin, Part 2

If you used Method B for Step 1, you’ll already have a security guard disguise, so you can skip this step.

PROS – None.
CONS – See Step 1, Method B.

Method D - Quick And Clean

Okay, now we're talking. Use Method C to get into the compound. After you get behind the cars, keep walking around the right side of the building and you'll see another fence with missing barbed wire. After you jump it, you can turn off the generator and hide behind the nearby object (what is that thing? a discarded bed?). A soldier will come to turn the generator back on and stand with his back to you. KO him and take his clothes, then dump him in the box nearby. You can climb in through the window just outside the storage area or jump back over the fence and enter through the lobby. Just avoid the soldier outside, as he will see through your disguise.

PROS - Amazingly quick and easy, and gets you a soldier disguise.
CONS - None.

Method E - Slick And Stealthy

Use Method D for insertion, but instead of turning off the generator, wait for the patrolling soldier up ahead to turn around and keep moving forward, sticking close to the wall. Climb in through the window on the left. There's two security guards to your left; avoid them and go right through the door marked "Zona Restringada". Pick up the wrench on the table and sneak forward to the next door (Vestuario); don't worry about the guards in the hangar. There'll be two security guards talking in front of you, but if you enter the room and sneak toward the left, the blind fools won't see you. There's a spare mechanic outfit on the bench to the left.

PROS - Stealthy. It also means that two of the three mechanics never enter the hangar, making it super easy to kill the target with the ejection seat method. This is the only way I can find to complete the mission without knocking anybody out.
CONS - Kind of dumb. Who hires security officers who can't see an intruder in a brightly lit room from ten meters away?

Method F – Been There, Done That

Don’t bother with a disguise. This forces you to assassinate the target in a specific way (Method H in the next step), but it also takes finding a disguise off your to-do list.

PROS – You get to look cool.
CONS – Obviously, more difficult compared to other methods.
MISSION 2 - Step 3: Beating a Chess Master
Method A – Surfing on a Rocket

We already know from the mechanics’ conversation at the beginning of the level that the target will be instructed in the jet fighter’s safety protocols, which involves ejection seat training. That sounds like an accidental kill opportunity! However, we 100% absolutely need a mechanic outfit to make this happen. There’s two to consider getting – the first is next to the side entrance room of the hangar with the two security guards, in a locker room/workshop where a mechanic likes to work on a table. Get behind him and KO him, then take his clothes before dumping him in the box. Grab the wrench off the top of the nearby crate and head out to the hangar, using the plane to shield yourself from the two other mechanics who will see through your disguise. After they talk, one will start working, and the other will either have a cup of coffee or stand next to the airplane. When they’re not looking, move around the nose of the aircraft to its right side and activate the ejector seat. Be aware that you won’t be able to do this without a wrench in your inventory. If you used Method E for insertion, this method becomes very easy as the only mechanic in the hangar will be the one working with his head buried in whatever he's working on, and he'll hardly ever spot anybody tampering with the equipment.

Alternatively, you can poison the mechanic’s coffee with the rat poison from the side entrance room or the recreation room, and then KO the mechanic in the toilet. This method works better if dressed as a soldier, as you will avoid the security guards’ attention. Once you have the disguise, hide the body behind the wooden wall so the guards don’t see it when you open the door. Grab the wrench as in the previous method and sabotage the ejector seat. It’s both harder and more time consuming than just taking the guy in the workshop, however, it does get rid of the main guy you need to worry about while sabotaging the ejection seat, so if you’re having trouble doing it without getting spotted, feel free to poison the coffee and get him out of the way. Just make sure he doesn’t see you wearing a mechanic’s outfit.

Now we need to talk to the target to call him to attend the safety check. Do not use the stairs in the main hangar, as the mechanics below are likely to spot you. Instead, go back to the workshop and keep moving forward until you find the back stairs. If the target is up on the catwalks, wait for him to walk inside. Talk to the target and lead him to the aircraft via the same route you took to get up to the second floor. Take the clipboard and read the instructions once he gets into the cockpit. Once the target pulls the ejection handle, take a deep breath and enjoy the fireworks.

PROS – Hilariously fun. You don’t need to deal with the target’s bodyguard or the Colonel. Counts as an accident.
CONS – A bit time consuming. It’s also quite easy to get spotted by the mechanics in the hangar.

Method B – Deadly Presentation

Dress as a soldier and head to the main entrance area on the first floor. If you need to get a soldier outfit after infiltrating the hangar, the easiest place to get one is outside, in the area with the floodlights and the generator (exit the hangar where the plane’s nose is pointing and turn right, walking around the hangar building until the end). Walk into the small storage area and turn off the generator, then hide behind the objects. A soldier will come to fix the generator and stand with his back to you. Dump him in the nearby box after KO’ing him and taking his clothes.

In the main lobby, the two security guards near the counter will have a brief talk about a presentation that will be given to the target. Once they’re finished, take the presentation slides off the counter (it’s the red envelope). If you do this in any disguise except the soldier, they’ll get suspicious. Take the slides upstairs to the office area and put them in the projector (it’s near the outside window). Next, go outside through the door and watch the patrolling guards. When they’re not looking, turn off the fuses to shut off the projector. The target will attempt to fix the projector when he arrives, so turn the fuses back on (again, be sure that no one’s looking) and zap him. You can also choose to take no action at all, and the colonel will come out and turn the fuses on by himself, killing the target.

PROS – It’s convenient if you’re dressed as a soldier. Counts as an accident. A good way to kill the target if you like to avoid direct confrontation. If you let the colonel do it, the irony does provide some fun.
CONS – It’s dumb. Have you ever seen a projector that has exposed wires sticking out of it? Also, it’s easy to get spotted while tampering with the fuses, since you have to watch out for guards both in front of and behind you at the same time.

Method C – You’ll Get Better Reception In Hell

For this method, we need to get the Colonel’s outfit. He’s easy to KO in the radio room or in the toilet. For the former, you’ll need a soldier outfit. The colonel won’t be bothered by your presence unless you sneak up on him from behind or push him. Enter the radio room when the colonel is there, and watch the catwalk guard as he patrols. You want him to be heading in the direction of the main office, and the colonel to be in front of the closet in the radio room. When you get your window, KO the colonel, take his clothes and his gun, then hide his body in the closet. You should have just enough time to do it before the catwalk guard returns. To get him in the toilet, simply wait there until he shows up. KO him as he stands in front of the mirror and hide his body in the nearby box.

Once we have the Colonel’s clothes, we’ll need to talk to the target and lead him to the radio room. Once you’re alone with him, wait until the catwalk guard has patrolled past, towards the main office. Feel free to wire him, snap his neck, or shoot him in the head. Or whatever. Hide the body as quickly as possible behind a desk or in the closet when you’re done, so that the catwalk guard doesn’t find it.

PROS – Up close and personal. Has that classic feel to it.
CONS – The catwalk guard likes to blow your cover as you try to take out the colonel in the radio room. If you hope to get him in the toilet instead, be prepared to wait for a long time unless you get there very quickly. It’s also very, very easy to get spotted while dragging the target’s body.

Method D – Spot Up

You can drop a spotlight on top of the target as he goes out on the catwalk. In order to get to the small balcony where you can loosen the fittings holding the spotlights in place, you need to get on the roof and look for a piece of scaffolding next to a patrolling soldier. Take the crowbar located on a nearby box (you’ll need it to drop the spotlight) and climb up the scaffolding to get to the lights. It doesn’t really matter if the patrolling guard sees you (as long as you’re dressed as the soldier or the colonel). However, once up there, make sure you stay to the left side of the alcove if you’re disguised as a soldier, as otherwise the radio room guards or the catwalk guard can randomly spot you. The spotlight we need is the one to the left. Here’s the catch: You can’t drop the thing on him when he’s smoking on the catwalk; he’s a bit too far back. You must get him while he’s walking in or out, which is easier said than done, as 47 takes quite a long time to get the spotlight to fall. The most consistent way is to wait until he’s just coming out to the catwalks, and you’ll see his foot through the window before he emerges. As soon as you see the foot, start dropping the light, and it should catch him just as he walks out. Try saving beforehand, just in case.

PROS – Counts as an accident.
CONS – Hard to time and can include long waiting times. You also need a soldier or colonel disguise, both of which open up much easier kill opportunities.
MISSION 2 - Step 3: Beating a Chess Master (cont.)
Method E – Alone Time

You can learn from two security guards in the locker room (the actual locker room, in the back of the first floor of the hangar-not the workshop where the mechanic is working) that the colonel has been asking for some vodka. So let’s grant his wish! Head to the kitchen on the first floor. You’ll find a bottle of vodka on the table. The game tells you that you need the soldier outfit to get this, but the guard here often turns his back to the bottle, so you can easily snatch it in any disguise. What the soldier outfit does is give you the option to talk to the colonel and he’ll ask you for some vodka. Anyways, take the bottle. Now we need to find some rat poison. The easiest one to get is in the room where two security guards are talking about the target’s demands, near the side entrance to the hangar. There’s also some in the commander’s toilet and on the roof. Go to the base commander’s office and you’ll see a tray on his desk where you can place the vodka. Wait until the target, his bodyguard and the colonel are all not looking, and poison the glass on the LEFT (looking toward the commander’s desk from the door side). Then place the vodka on the tray and go to the chess board. Solve the chess puzzle (Queen to G3) and wait for the target to celebrate his genius (sheesh). Alternatively, you can wait for the colonel to see the bottle of vodka and invite the target to a toast. Anyway, after the target drinks from the poisoned glass, he’ll run off to the commander’s toilet and start throwing up. Enter the toilet (or wait in there for him) and once you’re alone with him, kill him. You can wire him, shoot him with the silenced pistol, snap his neck or kill him my favorite way by drowning him in the toilet. There’s a convenient box in the toilet where his body can be easily dumped, just in case the colonel comes in later.

PROS – You get to drown him in the toilet. Easy and clean.
CONS – Unnecessary, and involves a fair bit of running around and waiting. It’s rare, but the colonel might walk in on you in the toilet while you’re killing the target.

Method F – Old School

As old school hitmen, we shouldn’t need vodka and long wait times to get some alone time with the target, right? Right. Enter the commander’s bathroom, wearing a soldier, mechanic or colonel disguise. Make sure the real colonel is not in the commander’s room. In Instinct mode, watch the target in the commander’s room. When he’s closer to you than his bodyguard, open the door, turn and throw a coin into the bathroom, right toward the mirror. He’ll come in and investigate the sound. Once the door closes, sneak up on him and kill him in the manner of your choosing. Dump him in the box and no one will be the wiser. If you got the timing wrong and the bodyguard comes to investigate instead, you can KO him and dump him in the box before repeating the process, and the target will come to your open arms.

PROS – Quick and clean, fairly easy and up close and personal. My favorite kind of assassination.
CONS – None, except the fact that the colonel needs to not be around the room.

Method G – Red Brain Salad

If you like to do things quick and dirty, you can hide in the back stairs room on the second floor and drill the target in the head as he’s on the way to the catwalk. Quickly holster your silenced pistol and you shouldn’t get spotted immediately. However, if you’re seen anywhere near the room after the deed, you’re in trouble. Climb out the window to escape before anyone suspects you. This can also be done from outside the window.

PROS – It’s quick, no doubt about that.
CONS – A found body, a gunshot and an alert. It can make escape more difficult unless you cleared the side area (around the checkpoint mentioned in Step 2, Method A). It’s also very easy to get spotted while escaping.

Method H – Splinter Cell 47
If you get in via Step 1, Method A, KO the incompetent security guard at the checkpoint and proceed as in Step 2, Part B and take out the stationary soldier outside, you can just leave his clothes be and do the entire mission without a disguise. Hide the body and wait for the patrolling guard to come close, then throw another coin behind the boxes nearby. When he comes to investigate, KO him and hide his body as well. Now move forward using the barrels and boxes for cover until you get to the stack that is closest to the hangar side entrance. Here’s where it gets tricky: You need to throw a coin next to the box to the right of the entrance without the coin hitting the car, but you can’t really see where you’re throwing the coin, because if you back off, the roof guard will see you. Do your best to throw the coin properly, then sneak out when the guard to the left of the entrance goes to investigate. You really need to hurry to get to him before he turns around, but you have enough time. KO him as well and dump him in the box. Now run a half circle around the entrance to avoid detection by the two security guards inside the room and get to the pipe. Climb it and start walking along the ledge. You have four options: There are two windows looking into the commander’s room, the toilet window and a window leading to the back stairs room on the second floor. You can simply pull out your pistol and shoot the target in the head, but the body will always be found by his bodyguard. Instead, let’s enter the bathroom when the coast is clear, hide to the left of the door and check that no one is looking towards us. Open the door, turn and throw a coin in the direction of the mirror, then IMMEDIATELY climb out the window. If the target comes to the bathroom, simply kill him. If the bodyguard comes in, KO him, dump his body in the box and repeat the process. This time the target will come to investigate and you can kill him in any way you wish. Dump the body in the box (it can contain two bodies).

If the coin method is too hard for you and you keep getting spotted, try waiting next to the second window (from the left) leading to the commander’s office. As soon as the target leaves and the bodyguard starts to follow him, climb in and KO the bodyguard before he can leave the room. Drag his body back to the bathroom and dispose of him using the box. When the target comes back the next time, he’ll be all alone provided that the colonel isn’t skulking around. Simply pull out your silenced pistol while hanging outside the window and shoot him in the head, or just climb in when he isn’t looking and wire him/snap his neck. Dump his body in the bathroom box as well.

Since you already knocked out every guard on the way back to the gap in the barbed wire, you can pretty much retrace your steps to the exit, just make sure you run a half circle around the hangar side entrance again so that the security guards won’t see you.

PROS – Disguiseless Silent Assassin. Need I say more? Stealthy fun!
CONS – It’s significantly harder than the other methods, but not too bad.
MISSION 2 - Step 4: Getting Home After a Productive Day
Method A – I’m Cool
If you’re dressed as the mechanic, the soldier or the colonel, simply walk out the front door and then the gate, and get to the car.

PROS – As easy as it gets.
CONS – None.

Method B – Still Not Fixed
If you’re disguiseless or are wearing a Security outfit, or if the guards are alerted, you can jump the fence behind one of the cars parked out front, as per Step 1, Method A, then walk to the car. If you’re wearing your training gear, make sure to hide behind the cars as you get to the gap, lest the front door guards see you.

PROS – Also very easy.
CONS – None.
