For animals only one count when they are in group, please be sure to click on every of them before moving to the next locations because some can be missed ? The other collectibles can be obtained whenever you want until you don't give the medallion to Davi Jones at the end. But I recommend to hunt the puzzle pieces as it's not easy to know which one you are missing. Well if someone can I know that each puzzle you found have its own place on the puzzle so if someone wish to make it, it'll be usefull.

Hopefully you just need to finish the first three mahjong games, so you don't need to finish a whole playthrough.

Well I also recall that some games will also features in-games achievements and for that you will most likely need to finish it on the same game profile.

Yes, that's what I said. I went back to the main chapter/story for a second time to play Mahjong there. Only in the main chapter/story can you obtain this achievement.

I didn't get how you've unlocked the final achievement. You can only unlock it in the main story ?

After I finished the bonus adventure I went back to the main chapter for my second playthrough. Indeed, after 3 games of Mahjong, the final achievement unlocked!

Small addition:
Thanks to your guide, I got 31/32 achievements - thank you!
Started the bonus adventure and played the first 3 hidden-object games in Mahjong mode - the final achievement didn't unlock. So I'm assuming you can only get 'The Joy of Mahjong' on an actual second playthrough.
