The evolve theory
By Toasty
A theory i created from some elements i gathered ingame, and on the wiki.
For the sake of it being easy and somewhat understandable, i did not take in count classes like Parnell or Abe, that have two distinct roles, with their variants.

The real antagonist
What if i told you, that there was someone behind the behaviour of the monsters, and what if i added, that this person was even the main reason, those monsters exist in the first place?

After all, Caira said it herself during one of her dropshit dialogs with Bucket, one of the molecule the monsters "uses" (she doesn't get much more precise than that, sadly) cannot be obtained naturally, so they must have been made by someone or something, for a particular purpose. She also states during her dialog with Hank, that the eggs do not contain monster embryos before hatching, and she also says during the one with her, Cabot, Parnell and Abe, that if they could get an egg in a pharadet cage, they might be able to go all the way up to the source of the signal.

So obviously, as many hunters, including Griffin, best and most experienced hunter in the galaxy, says monsters aren't natural, they obviously are made to be much stronger than the average wildlife on Shear is.

So who would it be, that would intentionally put monsters, on colonial planets, just to terrorize and kill the population? Well, my first bet would go on Cabot.
Cabot is, as we all know, the leader of the planet tamers, he also, as stated by Bucket, lost his wife, this is why the dropship has her name, and lost his daughter, as said during his dialog with Jack. None of those losses were due to monsters, both, died from diseases they caught while on a colonial planet. He is also fully trusted by most of his crew, and recognized as a good leader, even by Torvald.

So why would he even do something like this?
The theory
Let's begin with the first thing that buggered me in Cabot's character.
One of his dialogs include him and Lazarus talking about the Lazarus device, most of the team is more concerned about the side effects of being dead, or revived, like we see in Sunny's dialog with him, or what he tells Jack about Hyde's brain. however, Cabot asks if "if anything happened to you, could anyone else use that glove?", seemed like a pretty odd and specific question to ask, of course, he may just be worried about saving his team if anything happened to Lazarus, but keep that line in mind, we'll get to it later.

Lazarus also tells Markov, that he wants to bring a dead monster to the ship, and then revivify it, once on board, proving two things, firstly, that a monster can be revivified, it doesn't work on humans and robots only, and secondly, that the main ship can indeed have house for a monster, not only to fight right in, but also to be enclosed and experimented on. This second part is very important, as we never get a clear look at the inside, or even whold outside, of the ship. But as we learn, Cabot denied Lazarus' request, and prohibited him to bring any monster to the ship, dead or alive.

I think Cabot keeps some of the most clever minds of the team away from studying monsters, intentionally, except Caira, but we'll get to that later. As we see, Lazarus obviously has medical and biological knowledges, since he has been a Lazarus man for quite sometime, and in order to know how to "restart" a body, they obviously need to know how it works in the first place.

And except Caira and Lazarus, what medic has good knowledges in biology and science? Exactly, none, or at least, nowhere as close as Caira or Lazarus.
Let's see, Val (and R.Val) isn't a scientist, she is mainly a spy, and a field medic, leaving her medgun to do all the job, all she has to do is point it, pull the trigger, and heal. Then comes Emet, he is a bit like Val in many regards, he is here to heal and fight, nothing more, he is a robot, and as stated by a few characters, not a very advanced one, he isn't intended to help researching on the monsters. Slim comes next, but we haven't got the smallest clue he is a scientist, in any way, he's been experimented on, and changed into a basilisk soldier, to save his planet, nothing more, once again.

And before you start asking, there aren't only medics that have scientifical knowledges, but think about it, who has? Lennox sure is very intelligent and has knowledges, but she would never go against an order from her leader. Bucket also is, and said a few times he was helping Caira, but again, a robot can be reprogrammed, and he may not be as innocent as we think. Kala is probably the best suited person to study monsters, however she doesn't understand how she came to her results, when asked about the Patterson equation, she never gives a straight answer.
Cabot's plan
Now, time to properly theorize, in this section, i will try and make a guess as to what Cabot's plan may be, and if he has any help from some of his crew members.

As we seen, and as told by Bucket with one of his dialogs with Griffin, monsters are getting smarter and more dangerous, starting with Goliath, who was just a big beast breathing fire, to more complicated monsters, like Wraith, that can teleport, or the Krakens, that can fly and use lightning.
Now that we have that out of the way, let's continue.

Imagine, you have lost the two most precious persons in your life, your wife and your daughter, due to some diseases (at least for his wife, we ain't fully sure his daughter died to a disease too), you'd probably want to seek revenge, on those worlds, that destroyed yours. So you start building an army of monsters, and regroup all of the best hunters of the galaxy (as said by Markov), to make sure they are under control. Seems like a fetch? Let me develop more.

As stated by the evolve wiki, Cabot has met Bucket way before all of the other hunters, he is a super intelligent mind, that controls most of the things on board, and seems pretty harmless, however keep in mind a robot can be reprogrammated. I would say he and Bucket may have created the first monster, Goliath, in order to gather hunters, seeing that the colony's defenses proved useless against them, if it wasn't for one thing, Bucket says himself, that he doesn't know the said molecule the monsters use, and who tells him what it is? Caira, and that's where she enters the scene. Caira is smart, very smart, she has various degrees, but was however too young to join the planet tamers, so why did she join? Cabot justifys himself by saying they need all the help they can get, but i personally think they have met way before that, and they keep it secret. Cabot, Bucket and Caira would have created the first monster, and recruited all of the most famous hunters in the galaxy.

Caira says they could track the egg's signal, which implies, the eggs are only receivers of said signal, and they must be someone sending them, it would be very probable that someone who knows of the crew, ship and of course, monsters, would choose what monster to hatch, and when, someone that has a huge impact and can easily control multiple things at once, someone like Bucket.

"But hold on", you might say, "why gather all of the hunters in one place, wouldn't it be easier to kill them one by one?". And you are fully right, but Cabot is smart, he is gaining his crew's trust, and acts like a good dad to his childrens, only to better stab them when they least expect it, like for example, on the ship. It seems like a fetch until you realize something, most hunters aren't strong or heavily armed naturally, let me explain.Think about all the assaults that use a suit to enhance their capacities, and wouldn't likely wearing them out of combat, Parnell, Markov (and B.Markov) and Lennox, only lefts are Torvald and Hyde. Markov, Parnell and maybe even Lennox would still defend themselves, but without their suits and defense matrixes, they are nothing. So a surprise attack by a monster Bucket would make spawn in the ship, would surely cause a lot of damage, even if the whole team is here.

Now getting back to the first thing i said, Cabot's interest for the Lazarus device. The way i see it, Lazarus could ruin Cabot's plan, since his two main attributes would be a huge threat. Firstly, Lazarus can cloak himself, which could be useful, and yes, monsters can still smell him, but it would be hard to do, if they were on a ship with litterally everyone's smell in it. And secondly, his device (that he cannot take off, it seems), that could bring at least one hunter back up before the body decays, and my best as to who it would be, would be Hyde.
Why Hyde? Well, firstly, Hyde is one of the few persons on the team to treat him as a normal person, and not as a freak, as he says, so that may be a really good first point, but there's even more. Lazarus is very clever, he knows bringing a support or another medic back would be a huge waste, if they encountered another monster while sneaking away, so it has to be an assault, he also knows (as stated above) that Parnell, Markov and Lennox need their gear, both suit and weapons may be very well protected by Cabot and a monster, making them unaccessible, so he would choose one that could be revivified several times, like Hyde. Why not Torvald? Well, the brain damages have already been done to Hyde, following his several revivifies, and it happening to Torvald in the middle of a fight may be fatal, so Lazarus would choose the safe bet, also knowing Hyde's flamer is quite portative, unlike Markov's lightning gun, or Parnell's rocket launcher, and Hyde has learned to defend himself without, you guessed it, armor.

Also take in count that Lazarus is the only character that could ruin this plan, some may argue Emet can also respawn hunters, but it is said "from the dropship", dropship that Bucket, and by extension, Cabot controls.

So Cabot could very well take care of Lazarus by himself, sure, loosing a chance of having an immortal army of monsters, but taking the safe way out of it, not counting he could create monsters endlessly, each getting more dangerous as their researches go.

So this is all nice and all, but why would he do that? I've been explaining why i thought of this, and my theory, but not the real reason that would push him to kill innocents, even by vengeance. Well, one simple word, "power", exactly, Markov said it, "Cabot recruits most famous hunters in galaxy", if he killed all of his crew (excepted him, Bucket and Caira), who else would there be to protect the colonies? No one competent or organized enough, and those colonies would be left alone against Cabot, and his monsters.
Last words
So, this is all i could gather so far, if i find anything else, be sure i will update the guide, and if you have any constructive remarks, or debunking facts, don't hesitate telling me so in the comment section, but please, things like "ur teori sux urr XDDDDD" isn't constructive, like, at all, if you're gonna tell me it sucks (what it probably does), then at least tell me why.

Thanks for reading.

I think that this was a good theory, but i'd like just a little more proof on some of the points that you assumed on like the idea that Bucket and Caira met before, also if Caira and Bucket were in on the plan i'd like to think that they'd be trying a bit less to help the hunters, like Caira wouldn't make an acceleration field to help them if she was trying to kill them all.

@madd Thank you for your overly constructive feedback, it is users like you that keep a community alive, i am very happy you took the time to write this comment, i had great fun counting the several grammar errors, as well as contemplating how incredibly retarded your comment was.
