The patch and how to use it
I originally posted this in the discussions section, but after several requests I've finally gotten around to adding it as a Guide for anyone who may need it.

-------------------------------------------------------------

First a brief forward to explain what exactly I've done here:

So I decided to finally knock this game out after letting it sit in my library for ages, and lo and behold I couldn't get the friggin' button prompts to show anything but keyboard. Apparently no one else can either.

Now I'm not one to give up easily, and it didn't look like a legit patch was coming anytime soon, so I figured how hard could it be. A bit of Googling, a couple free Unity tools and some sleight of hand later, I think we got it.

I literally just unpacked the Unity assets with the UI, found the graphics for the keyboard button prompts, replaced them with a copy of the Xbox button prompts, repacked and replaced the assets file.

Started up the game, and what do you know, Xbox button prompts. Well that was surprisingly easy. Did another version for the Playstation and tested that too. Okay then.

-------------------------------------------------------------

So here's a download link and a quick set of instructions:

This is a quick and dirty hack to get controller prompts working properly for people with Xbox and Playstation controllers in Saturday Morning RPG.

To apply this patch:
1. Open the folder for the controller of your choice (Xbox or Playstation)
2. Copy the file sharedassets0.assets
3. Go the game directory in Steam/steamapps/common/SaturdayMorningRPG/SMRPG_Data
4. Paste and overwrite the existing sharedassets0.assets file

That should do it. You should have prompts for your controller now instead of the keyboard.

Note that this doesn't fix the option to select between the 3 modes, it just manually forces your preferred mode. If for some crazy reason you want the keyboard prompts back, just delete sharedassets0.assets and verify game cache integrity or manually swap the assets file back to the original if you backed it up somewhere.

This worked for me, hopefully it'll work for you guys.

Much appreciated. Some of the items are basically useless without this.

Can't imagine why they wouldn't. They have been for me.

Will achievements still unlock if I install your custom patch?
