800-Dash Guide for those who have exhausted all other options and by god you're about to kill someone...
By Iron_Gears
Like the title suggests, you've tried all other options and nothing's working for you. You're slowly drifting to the abyss as you try to chain-dash 800 times in a row. Your significant other has left you, your family has put you in a mental hopsital, yet you still must finish this challenge. Well boy have I got good news for you.

Let's break this challenge down...
The first thing to realize is that this is the most unique challenge in the game, because while the rest of the game throws you into weightful and varying combat (until you learn the patterns) or has long series of traps in which you must navigate through fiery vents and touch-sensitive crystals, this challenge takes its roots in throwing away the varying fast-pace elements of the game for a short amount of time (like 30-45 seconds per enemy encounter) and instead requires you to have an extremely consistent, relatively fast paced rhythm of button pressing for an extended period of time. And when I say extended, I mean more that the 30-45 seconds per encounter and mathematically a time period of about 6.3 minutes(just to be safe).

Right. I know what it is but how do I beat it?
Now if you're like me (i.e. diagnosed with ADD & not musically talented), this can seem a little daunting at first. What I found worked for me is instead of focusing on the challenge, I tried to train my subconscious brain into following the necessary rhythm. (of approximately 235-240 bpm). You can find a video on youtube of a 240 bpm metronome to help you practice. In order to make it a subconscious mind tendency, what I did was use this site[www.all8.com] and trying to keep pushing within the bounds of 235-240 bpm, and once I felt like i got the rhythm going, I would intentionally start watching a video of a TV episode which I already have watched while still pressing the button at the rate at which I started...
Wait wait wait... Why make it harder?
This was incredibly helpful at least for me because doing a singular task, to me, is clumsy and I end up losing focus, because my brain naturally tries to multi-task. If you don't have ADD or ADHD then you might do better by not playing another video. Once I was confident enough, I went back to the game, and instead focused my attention on moving the mouse around correctly, because deviations in that are much less drastic that deviating from chain dashing by several milliseconds. This multi-tasking really helped me and might help any other ADD drifters out there. If you're not good at multi-tasking, maybe try the thing where you leave the mouse in one place so that you continually dash over the stamina pad, I ain't judging you for finding what works...
Okay...I think I've got this now...anything else?
Yes actually, while this is a good method for finding out a way to consistently chain dash til 800, It doesn't quite cover how to start an actual chain-dash chain. One of the things I found most frustrating about all these guides is because they all say the same thing, You just have to learn how to do it. And unfortunately they are partially right. To be able to start a chain-dash chain required the player to start dashing at just the right times. Now what I have found which helps me start a chain-dash is to consider starting it up like revving up an engine. You start out slowly, (bit less than half a second before you dash again) and then proceed to get faster so that by the fourth one you have reached about 240 BPM.

Last thing, In order to even do my own method, I had to get the chain-dash outfit from the west area. It might not be necessary for everyone but I found it helpful. You can get it by going through the 8-module door which you find just south of the west area teleporter. I think it's the green outfit and you can look up specifics on its location and obtainment in other guides.
This is way too long...Can you summarize for me?
Yes I can. Sorry about that but I find that when reading a guide there are always gaps and questions which need to be filled so I end up having three opened at a time. Anyways...

1. The challenge tests your ability to focus in a particularly repetitive task.
2. Sometimes assigning this repetitive task to your subconscious mind can allow it to do the task more consistently.
3. Train your subconscious to do this by practicing pressing the space bar at approximately 240 BPM with some sort of online BPM counter.
4. Then watch or perform some other task which you are more focused on, such as watching a video while also pressing the dash button.

Hopefully this helps you finally complete this challenge! Feel free to comment and ask questions if I was unclear about anything! Good luck Drifters!

Thank you for this incredible guide. I was able to reach the 200+, then 400+ with the help of a 240 bpm metronome, after consistently getting stuck in the 100+ range. Inevitably, I found both the metronome and the in-game sound distracting, and finally reached 800 with everything muted.

I used the 240 bpm metronome and set my dash key to M so that the sound of the space-bar wouldn't distract me. Kept pressing it to the rhythm while I looked away at something else so I could focus on the sound and it worked.

Didn't expect the metronome to be as useful as it ended up being. Got it within five tries. Thanks guy!
