(Updated) Fixing your controls with Steam Big Picture (And Xpadder)
By Campion 🐰
Bandai Namco messed up the controls for controllers with their latest patch. Hopefully this guide should help get around this.

Rebinding controls through Steam Big Picture mode
Steam now supports rebinding controllers for free via Big Picture mode. Let's go over how to do that.

At the top of your steam browser, look for a box with arrows pointing to the sides. Click it to enter big picture.

Now that we're in Big picture mode, click the gear the top to enter Settings, then click Controller configuration. (Or, whatever controller you're using.)

With that done, head back to the main menu. Go to your library and select Pac Man Championship 2, Manage game, then controller configuration. Now you should see all the buttons you can mess with. Click on the box for your left analog stick.

There's a lot of stuff to mess with here, but we'll simplify it. First click "Advanced settings" at the bottom. For Style of Input, select directional pad, and Layout will be "4 Way (No overlap)." For Up left down and right, you'll be using the Dpad equivalent of each.

Here's a picture to show the settings:

Once finished, click Back at the bottom, then Done. This should be enough to enjoy Pac man DX properly again.
Xpadder support
Xpadder is an application that allows you to bind keyboard commands to your controller. With the latest update, which Bandai Namco has refused to fix, you'll find that the sensitivity will be messed up on your controller. Xpadder will help get around this.

Keep in mind that my version of Xpadder may be different to yours. I don't know if xpadder recognizes PS4 controllers, but if it does you can still replicate these settings since the Xbox 360 and PS3/4 controllers are similar anyway.

  • Bind left analog stick to arrow keys.
  • Bind dpad to arrow keys.
  • X to X.
  • Z to Y. Alt to Y. (For brakes.)
  • Backspace to B.
  • Enter to A.
  • Escape to start.

Next, click on the gear for left analog stick, then settings.

Take a look at this image, and replicate what I have here:

This is everything. IMPORTANT: When you start Pac man, press ENTER on your keyboard, and you'll be able to play reliably with your controller again (hopefully). This my first and only guide, it's probably awful and ugly, but I hope it helped you out.

Thank you! I was quite shocked at how terrible the controls were for CE2, after having just replayed DX+ recently. I was gonna give up on this (free) game until I came across this guide.

Hey, I have the easiest solution to the Left Stick problem (and I tested it on Dualshock 4 and Steam Controller using Legacy Bindings) on Steam Controller Configuration, just increase the Inner Deadzone for the Left Stick to it's highest.

That's it. It's mindboggling that Namco didn't fix this in advanced that they're giving it away for Free.

GamesMaster, steam controller rebinding was not available at the time this patch released. Now that you've reminded me, I went ahead and updated the guide.

you can do this using steam instead just use big picture mode click on ps4 or xbox and then right click on game to setup your controller you dont need some 3rd party that you have to pay for.

That's the idea. 👍

Excellent. I was getting ready to refund this game after having waited for it to go on sale. This xpadder profile opened the game up for me! It's much much better now. Thank you.

Hi, thank you for the Joystick layout tutorial. I have redone it for to use with the mapping software padstarr. My profile works too but I will have to test it longer to see if there is anything to optimize. Here is the profile to be downloaded from the padstarr forum. If you own the padstarr, I guess it should also show up in the search function of the software to be downloaded directly. :alienhive: http://padstarr.com/forum/showthread.php?31908-Pac-man™-championship-edition-2
