Im running a pretty decent laptop on the side as well as a secondary pc I have just for my room-scale VR setup.
So my laptop is a i7 6700HQ with 16GB ddr4 2400mhz with a gtx 1060 6GB and a 256GB m.2 with a 1tb HDD... its got a 17.3 inch 1080p 75hz G-sync ips panel... all that in a laptop that is less than an inch thick and less than 5 pounds.. I really love it for travelling.
Then in my secondary PC im rocking a gigabyte z170 mobo/ i5 6600K / Cryorig R1 Ultimate / 16GB 2400mhz / Gtx 980Ti / 500GB samsung evo 850 & 4TB WD HDD inside the Corsair 460X RGB tempered glass case.
I gotta get some pics up of them on my profile !

the most recent one only has a new SSD in it (500 GB Crucial MX ?)
Personally I'm more of a VA fan :)
Once you get hooked on those there's no going back for any screen (except OLED maybe)
Still stuck with a HAF 932 (with a windowed side and custom window front though), due to it still having the most space for my watercooling setup :/
What's the panel used in the TV, IPS or VA?
