WCML Over Shap - Extension to Windermere

This is a reissue in order to get a successful finalisation.
The Windermere Branch, in North West England, runs from Oxenholme to Windermere, connecting with the West Coast Main Line at Oxenholme. It is now a single line, with no passing loops.

Towns and villages along the route are : Kendal, Burneside, Staveley and Windermere.

Train services are primarily operated by TransPennine Express between Windermere and Lancaster or Manchester. From Oxenholme the trains use the West Coast Main Line and then follow the Manchester-Preston Line from Preston. No freight now as all the facilities have been removed.

This route extension is not as easy as it appears, even though it is a single line, without passing loops, from "A to B". There are a number of sharp descents and ascents (e.g. coming out of Windermere), a number of speed limit changes (with a wicked 5mph at the ungated crossing to the west of Burneside Platform), and some platforms only just take a 4-car unit.

The route uses Keith Ross' excellent WCML over Shap as a base, incorporating the original line from Preston to Carlisle, and extending west from Oxenholme to Windermere.
