ok so the brain is a surgery but I've been getting them from autopsy using my harvest organs post mortum... time for more research and to see if better autopsy tables yield more brains

You can totally harvest them from raiders you capture. You would need a different mod if you want to harvest organs from the dead, but I have tested it and they do extract brains!

Strange, it should be there as soon as you load in the mod. You might need to reorganize your load order.

Ay my research speed seems to not be increasing at all even with vanilla items after installing is there any way to fix this?

Hey mate, love your mod! Dunno if you're still up to develop it, but if possible: could you add the info about the person the brain came from in it's description, like SubcoreInfo does with subcores? Just the name of the pawn appearing in the item and the names of all brains used to make a building appearing in that building's description would be enough to satisfy my morbid war crime needs. Hope you are doing well!

Would it be possible to make the brains edible? I'm currently looking for ways to make a mindflayer xenotype that involves brain eating for nutrition.

About the surgery. psylink should not be treated as an implant, as it will not be removed by installing the brain, this procedure is not effective when only psylink is in the brain, and surgery to remove the brain should occur, allowing for a normal brain after surgery. This is my little thought that maybe there is a better way, like psylink can be removed as an implant by installing the brain

One area that needs optimization, the option to install the brain will appear when the colonizer has only psylink in the brain, but psylink will not be removed, so I think this surgery should not occur when psylink is only in the brain and no other implants or trauma, because it is ineffective.
There is also the question of whether the Dual-Brain Processor will be able to rotate in a future update, it is not a square, so I think it needs to rotate

hi ive always enjoyed being able to buy the brains sometimes form traders (if i had enough money) :) and also being able to sell them sometimes has been really helpful with tons of mods.

(also when you buy or sell, if you dont have a good character with trading skills, it can cost you more to buy, or you get less from selling them, so i think its good that they are available for trading)

@ancalagon if you really want to change the price for your savegame, you might be able to use rimmsqol mod to tweak the cost. (there are also some other mods, possible related to deep storage, or map wealth, which can reduce the wealth of your base from loose items that could help a bit too) but ive been collecting and using/trading/keeping brains for ages and it hasnt affected my bases much

Glad to hear you've enjoyed it! I think I could go about dropping the price, only issue is that traders also carry brains and I can't figure out how to make them not. 500 is cheap to buy something like that from them.

I've played with this mod in every game I've run since early 2021, and balance-wise the only issue this mod has is the price of a brain. I humbly ask that it be cut from 3000 silver to 500 silver. It's too much of a wealth increase and trade imbalancer when you're stocking up on many brains throughout your game.

Excellent mod, and great artwork. Thanks for all your hard work over the years to keep this mod alive and healthy!

Failed surgery can cause damage to the brain, and so the damage must be healed in order to be able to try removing the brain again.

Which brings up the interesting idea that instead of requiring a brain one could be grown.
I would like brains in a jar to be more than ornimental, maby allow them to be attached to electrified benches to assist or run them.

Hi, the mod is really good but I think that reasearch speed granted by the brains is ridiculous. 1000% is quite insane to be honest. Any plans on the "light" version of the mod?

Another solution is to use the Resource Dictionary mod. It will allow you to define the two different items as the same thing.

@Genjator - About the incompatibility with Astra Militarum. If you go into options, turn on dev mode, open the debug action menu at the top. Then you can search for "spawn" and choose "spawn thing", then search for brain. It should be the first option after you search, simply titled brain. This lets you spawn in the type of brain part used for blueprints in this mod. Hope this helps!

(its not quite as simple or quick as that.. there would still be new images to make, new item defs, and other things if tied into research etc but that could be way in future) :)

hi i was just thinking about it and there might be a way to do it just by using recipes.
(im not that good at modding but most of my stuff uses recipes) :)

for example, it might add some duplicate entries to the harvesting menu/operations, but i think you can specify only the new, extra recipe(s) to require Level x of intellectual skill.

eg: within the recipe def
<skillRequirements>
<Crafting>8</Crafting>
<Intellectual>4</Intellectual>
</skillRequirements>

This is one of my favorite mods, Roast! =)
I'm sure it's out of scope but I had an idea that I think would add a fun layer to brain harvesting: the Intellectual skill of the pawn being harvested affects the 'quality' of the brain, and higher quality brains make higher quality brain processors! I sort of just throw everyone I don't like under the knife right now and have 20 brains researching me straight to the end of the game, so it'd be cool to have to hunt down the particularly nerdy ones to make the super-processor =)

not sure how possible this is but I would love to see a patch that allows this to use the human brains harvested with the forgotten realms species mod! (meant to be used as food for illithids but if you don't have any illithids they're sort of useless, so I'd love a use for them)

Has anyone had issues with this conflicting with the Astra Militarum mod? I can harvest brains, but they seem to be overwritten by that mod and this mod doesn't recognize them. So guessing it may just be an incompatibility?
