This chamber was rough but I got thorugh it... thank God for the save button. Thumbs up.

Yup. Cube is full of tricks!
trailofundead 24. juli 2014 kl. 13:53
Slowly making progress, now I realise what a slog it must be doing mine! You solve one problem then there's another...and another...or you've left something behind. There are some neat tricks in here so I'll keep persevering!

I'll keep that in mind. Yeah forgot about the 1st room but it was kind of purposely invisible at the 1st room. Its a concept of a cube map, enspired by the movie series.
As for the exit pedestal button, it disables the fizzler back between the main room and the blue gel room, giving u a shorter path to the sphere so u could go back there and take it to the exit button. But u didnt need it because u were smart enough to take the 1st sphere with u before entering the exit room itself. I have tried to warn u about a change i did which enforces u to use the sphere at the turret room. Feel free to look it up again.
toncica 22. juli 2014 kl. 17:14
Did I miss something? Yes, I was curious about the button but then I concluded that was just an escape path at the exit.
In the first room all laser relays didn't have visible connections too. That made it a guessing game, you saw me trying to activate different combinations of three relays when I had only one cube. Maybe it would do something, it didn't though. Since I couldn't be sure because of the invisible connections I was guessing. When you keep information from the player his trust hurts, so I would keep all connections visible and design the puzzle with that in mind. Seeing how many connections there are is also good for the author to see when a room becomes too cluttered with elements.

Thanks for playing it. Unseen button paths were only be used at closed range stuff while the button's function is fully visible. Unfortunately, u havent used the pistons as i wanted but i guess its ok. Maybe i will make my own walkthrough to show people how to finish it properly.
Oh, and were u curious about the last pedestal button near the exit door? I saw that u wanted to check this but then said somehting like 'ah nvm i'll just finish now'. lol. Sadly u have played the less edited version of the map. I have made angled panels less stucky while also changing the object u need to bring to the exit door..

Care to try my newer map? It looks like a complete guessing game at first sight, but it has more logic than u may think.

It was entertaining, although I'm not a fan of unlabeled buttons and elements. There weren't any critical situations except angled panels which could grab and hold the player but I was moving very cautiously. I think I did a few things unintended, the room with the piston platforms had enough portal surfaces for me to reach the button without redirecting the laser. All in all it was fun, here is my blind run: http://youtu.be/GZ-UMDbdFQI
BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 22. juli 2014 kl. 11:36
I have made additional change at room #2 which includes making the sphere unusable after being deployed at its button, thus having no issues that the sphere could be destroyed.
BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 22. juli 2014 kl. 9:54
@chris (void)
There is a simple solution to your problem which is adding a fail-safe path between the 2 rooms, so in case the 'bottle neck' closes, u could use that path as a one-way direction from room #3 to room #2 to go back, But sadly i have encountered a few issues making that change so i have decided not to add it.
My main issue is that there is no sphere spawn at room #2, so if u lose the sphere too early in the game, you're screwed. I have tried adding a spawn for it but it makes the sphere move when spawned, thus making a high probability for the sphere to drop on the room #2's floor, having the entire puzzle at that room irrelevant.

* Puzzle has been updated. I had an issue updating this puzzle but with some help i have managed to solve this issue so now i can keep updating the puzzle when needed.*

- Edited Room #5 (blue gel room)
* Added a deadly laser at the ceiling near the upper faith plate to force using the faith plate at the bottom.

- Edited exit Chamber
* Changed the area to make a quicker way to obtain the last object needed to open the exit door.

- Edited path between Rooms #2 and #3
* Made some of the tiles unportable at the 'neck' between the rooms to prevent from getting stuck at the angled tile.
trailofundead 21. juli 2014 kl. 13:37
Looks tricky! Looking forward to giving it a go
vioray 19. juli 2014 kl. 19:59
now that took a bit of work to get through, very well designed!
BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 17. juli 2014 kl. 12:22
I get it now, no need for a movie. just wanted screenies of the exact location but its good now.. Ur talking about thr bottle neck between the 2 rooms, should have said it like that, lol. Anyway sadly i cant fix it. i cant edit this map anymore. Unfortunately the mechanism of the 2nd room prevents me of making a sphere spawn, which will then prevent the whole shenanigan.
chris (void) 17. juli 2014 kl. 12:17
As i said, with a portal in the lower room and a portal in the upper room, you can take the sphere with you which would then close the panel and allow you to get back into the upper room using your portal. I would make you a video but my laptop is too slow for fraps and my 25m² flat is too messy to make a video with my cellphone. lol
BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 17. juli 2014 kl. 12:15
But the panel is controlled by the sphere at the lower room. U just hop on the faith plate to launch u right up. I dont see how the panel could close while the sphere is still there.
chris (void) 17. juli 2014 kl. 12:12
The hole in the ground. You get into that room through that hole. It has a panel at bottom. If you use portals to take the cube from the previous room with you, that panel closes. If you fall into that hole and have both portals inside of that hole (which would be totally retarded of the player but actually is possible), you'd be stuck. It's not a big deal as it needs you to act completely unnatural stupid but it is possible. Don't worry too much. lol

BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 17. juli 2014 kl. 12:08
Ok so the room with the 2 piston ramps.. I never got stuck there, idk where exactly u got stuck at, but piston ramps in general can get glitchy a bit if u change their direction too quickly up/down.
Regardless, i have just remembered that i cannot longer make edits on this map. For more info about this, check my comment before yours here (9 comments down from here).
sorry.
I still want to know exactly where u got stuck at (the 1st complaint), send a screenie the next time u visit the map please. I have added some screenies for my other map so people would get some info out of them, in case u havent solved it yet, go check it out.
chris (void) 17. juli 2014 kl. 11:59
I like how your maps aren't solved in 5 minutes and force you to think. Your other map got me for over an hour.
chris (void) 17. juli 2014 kl. 11:58
Also I got past that room. I'm currently confused with the room after the elevator/lazor room. (The one after the stuck room).

Design tip to prevent getting trapped: The hole is big enough for a 2nd panel that points upwards and can be triggered together with the lower one. Then there just won't be a hole at all, if you take the cube with you.
chris (void) 17. juli 2014 kl. 11:53
TBH you need to be seriously retarded to get stuck there, but it's possible.
chris (void) 17. juli 2014 kl. 11:52
There are portalable walls INSIDE, but if you have no portal outside of it, you're stuck.
chris (void) 17. juli 2014 kl. 11:51
Correction, your screenshot #5
chris (void) 17. juli 2014 kl. 11:51
The hole that you see in your main screen shot. if you take the cube of the previous room with you using portals and then fall into the hole with the closed panel, you can get trapped.
BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 17. juli 2014 kl. 11:09
2nd room isnt hard. U have a franken cube, it has its use for these things as it can walk without being grabbed.
At which room exactly did u get trap here? can u use screenie?
chris (void) 17. juli 2014 kl. 11:01
TBH i gave up in the 2nd room because I was totally unable to reach the ball without cheating. Looks nice but I didn't have the nerves to try to reach it. I might retry later but this map is a little too hard for my taste.

Note: You can trap yourself in the elevator/lazor room when the glass panel is closed and you fall into the hole.
BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 15. juli 2014 kl. 11:55
Ok so i have made the following changes but they are on a different map , sadly:

- Room #5 (blue gel room)
* Added a deadly laser at the ceiling near the upper faith plate to force using the faith plate at the bottom.

- Exit Chamber
* Changed the area to make a quicker way to obtain the last object needed to open the exit door.

So, why are these changes are on a different puzzle? Well, i have no idea why it happened really. I was re-publishing the map after the new changes and it decided to publish a new puzzle along these changes. Have tried to figure what went wrong and even made a thread discussion about it here .
Gonna contact Support about it.
BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 15. juli 2014 kl. 1:07
As for the blue gel room, i will tweak it a bit to make the faith plate a 'must use'. Thanks for letting me know.
BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 15. juli 2014 kl. 1:05
Thanks for the thumbs up. Yes this map is a bit frustrating but its all about the cube's concept, which sadly many people seems not to understand. The puzzle is a bit frustrating because of the concept, not because cruelty. The only 'cruel' thing i did was the sphere's probability to reach its button (not the one near the exit, the one with the red lasers and fizzlers).
I honestly dont see any other purpose for a franken cube to be used instead of a normal cube, besides what i used for. Sadly, people dont use them very often because their unpredictability could be exploited and break the puzzle.
ArgleBargle 14. juli 2014 kl. 21:18
I gave a thumbs up, but I didn't actually complete it. I got frustrated with not getting the ball in the holder (which I think was the final step) and I got a little tired of cycling back to start over. On the other hand, I liked how you used the frankencubes. I never see them used where they are a necessary part of the solution, but merely placed for a laugh. I also liked the laser solution above the frankencube room. I had to think about that for a while. On the down-side, I found the ledge with the faith-plate to be awkward. Simply being able to portal directly rather than forcing some awkward ninja would have been better.

I got your commentary a few comments ago.. other stuff became an argument. thanks again for the last time..
cya.
wildgoosespeeder 14. juli 2014 kl. 16:02
You asked for my commentary. I gave you my input. The way you are commenting suggests you didn't want it in the first place.

As for #7, playing #9 and #10, no thanks.
BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 14. juli 2014 kl. 15:56
No. Thanks. If people tend to 'rush' without thinking, they should save and load more commonly, which isnt a sin. I tend to save a lot, especially before making an uncertain jump. The average angled panel aint opens/closes when a person gets nearby it, unless the owner used beemod or whatever crap he installed.
Look, bottom line is that there are always stupid people rushing and trying while on the move. We cant stop it, and these maps are not intended for them. For those who like complete logical maps... like you, also not their cup of tea. I build what i like, not what the 'people demand'. The workshop isnt a competition.
wildgoosespeeder 14. juli 2014 kl. 15:48
These kinds of things can even happen accidentally as the player is exploring the map before they start solving it! I suggest you play Portal 1 and Portal 2 in commentary mode.
BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 14. juli 2014 kl. 15:46
I see your point, but my map is pretty much idiot-proof. Also as i said before, i had to compensate since its a 5x5x5 cube map, so shit gets less pretty and more practical. From all the maps i've ever played i almost never got stuck at the back of an angled panel, a player needs to be a complete idiot to get close and not to know whats gonna happen in case it pops open without his control..
wildgoosespeeder 14. juli 2014 kl. 15:40
I told you how the player can get stuck. I didn't say I did.
BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 14. juli 2014 kl. 15:10
Where exactly did u get stuck at? I have tried to make everything unstuckable within the limits of a 'cube' map.. There is no common portal logic in this map, its just 1 puzzle after another, for each cube. Oh well, thanks for trying anyway.
wildgoosespeeder 14. juli 2014 kl. 13:56
This was very tedious and mind-numbing to exit. Your hiding of antlines makes this a huge guessing game and not about using logic to solve the test. Expect other playtesters to give up because I was close to doing just that. There are just too many sections and usage of angled panels that could cause trapping (click "Boxes and Doors: the Problem"):

When did u download the map? I have made a patch on room 2 yesterday which unables u to exploit portals for the sphere..

Release the sphere from its button and put it again, should respawn the mirror cube.
Wear a helmet.
Solar Knight 13. juli 2014 kl. 23:21
Two comments on your second room. There is a major way to cheat, and there is an error with it. I solved the second level by doing an "infinite fall" and then jumping up to grab the ball from the ledge . I knew this was incorrect and that you have to use the frankencube to knock it off but i figured this out afterwards. Also, the mirror cube that drops hit me on the head and went into a gravity beam to be forever lost.
BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 13. juli 2014 kl. 23:06
Lol it was damn obvious to everyone else. If u got stuck at that point, u gonna get real pissed 2 rooms ahead ;). I'll tip u now: Dont waste Franky too early, u may need him for later.
Solar Knight 13. juli 2014 kl. 22:58
Ok, so I finally saw the panel open. That wasn't obvious at all. I found the solution a million times and never saw anything happen. Now on to room two after 20 minutes...
BlacKy #SlavaIsraelini  [ophavsmand] 13. juli 2014 kl. 17:22
First room is made of 2 tractor beams, 1 laser and 4 relays. At the 1st time ur in this room u have nothing to use, besides portals. Nothing to overthink at that point. Just use portals with lasers and see what it unlocks :D

P.S I gtg sleep now so i'll see further msgs tomorrw... cya. and goodluck.
Solar Knight 13. juli 2014 kl. 17:17
I don't know if I'm overthinking it or what but I feel like I'm missing something in the first room. Perhaps a hint?

I hope it was a good suck for u.
