I think it took me more than 15 minutes to figure it out.

I solved this one in a weird way. I put the cube on the button, got to the other side then funneled the cube, dropping it and funneling it again so it wasn't high, got on the elevator, dropped the cube back on the button, got on the other elevator then funneled the cube again, then portaled on the surface below the button and to the cube side, pointed the laser at the receptacle and took the cube to the exit then funneled it up.

I haven't searched through all of the previous comments but it seems unlikely that I'm the only one to realize that you don't need the elevator platforms at all! You can just plant a portal in front of the exit while you're riding the upper funnel, then jump out to the opposite side. After that it's easy.
SpielSatzFail 9 Mar, 2024 @ 2:19pm
Not sure if it's a coincidence but it's a good thing that it was (for me) impossible to use the piston platforms by just letting the cube drop, it needed to be put down gently <3 (means I had to switch polarity as it is intended).

@canticle Thanks so much for the touching message, it's really nice to hear that you enjoy all my maps so much, even the older ones :p2cube:

Although I've been creating fewer workshop puzzles lately, don't worry -- I haven't gone anywhere. I've been hard at work for the last few years designing and writing a massive Portal mod project called Desolation: https://emberspark.games/desolation/ -- you'll have 50+ new puzzles to play (featuring new test elements!) when it eventually releases a few years from now.
I'd definitely suggest following the project's progress if you'd like to keep up with my work, but rest assured I will make more workshop puzzles at some point too :)

I know you say your aren't as happy with your old maps as you consider yourself to have improved with age (...like a fine wine ;-P)...but for me, it is always a pleasure to find a map or yours that somehow escaped me. And I got to play this one 3 times...the cheesy way I solved it initially, then bothered by the unused piston, solved it the proper way, and then rounded out the experience solving via the 2nd cheese way.

That's why we all love your submissions...we get an afternoon of "fine wine" and "cheese".

Haven't seen anything new lately...I get there is more to life than this...but just wanted to wish you well in your absence if you happen to see this.
Hikari 30 Sep, 2022 @ 4:28pm
@Andy T You know, you can move the laser cube out of the way using the funnel, and that makes it reverse, letting you get back to the other side :)
vallibus 11 Oct, 2021 @ 2:42pm
Interesting and fun to solve.
Andy T 13 Feb, 2021 @ 11:21pm
I cheesed, I either downloaded the wrong version or you missed something, I trapped myself 1st time by sending myself to the piston side and there's no way back for correct moves since Reflective is out of way for funnel and I just funnel directly to second piston.
Petutski 13 Mar, 2020 @ 10:28am
Logical and enjoyable! Thanks!
etott 6 Aug, 2019 @ 5:56am
Simple but very beautiful.
Demon Arisen  [author] 12 Feb, 2019 @ 3:57pm
@Teo Thanks! Note that I made this in 2014 when maps tended to be much easier on the whole :P
Teo 12 Feb, 2019 @ 3:54pm
I'd definitely put this in the easy category, but I still really enjoyed it. nice job!
Dark Rozen 13 Dec, 2018 @ 1:10pm
I did it without the pistons. Is this intentional? But it's still a good chamber.
Mostly Human 11 Oct, 2018 @ 5:36am
I liked this a lot.
Miami Mike 20 Nov, 2017 @ 4:42pm
I solved it without the elevators:

Just a little bit easy ,,not medium
Demon Arisen  [author] 9 May, 2017 @ 12:06am
@Fumbly Bumbly Indeed. Well, back then there weren't many guides etc about mapping, and Portal wasn't a huuuuge obsession of mine like it is now. I think from 2015 my maps became generally consistently good but before that I experimented with some different styles and puzzles. I wouldn't say my old tests are BAD per se, but they're certainly not my best.
Fumbly Bumbly 9 May, 2017 @ 12:03am
@Demon Arisen Some of your older maps are actually quite good. I think one difference now is that you consistently make outstanding maps, while quality seems to be inconsistent between your older ones.
Demon Arisen  [author] 8 May, 2017 @ 11:57pm
@Fumbly Bumbly Yeah, I can't update them so I can't change anything but I still like hearing feedback. I hope these early tests aren't too disappointing - bear in mind I made them five years ago when PeTI had only recently come out and I was new to Portal and gaming in general.
Fumbly Bumbly 8 May, 2017 @ 11:50pm
@Demon Arisen I've pretty much completed all of your Best Of Demon Arisen collection so I just thought I would try out some of your older chambers/those in the Demon Arisen's Logic Puzzles collection. It can be intriguing to know how people started making/publishing maps. I think I've had my fill now though. I suppose providing feedback (or at least reporting exploits) to these older ones is somewhat irrelevant now, since you probably either don't have the p2c files anymore or it's just not worth your time to fix them up. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
Demon Arisen  [author] 8 May, 2017 @ 11:30pm
@Fumbly Bumbly I don't know why you're bothering with all my super old maps - I appreciate you playing them of course but bear in mind they're often broken :P
Fumbly Bumbly 8 May, 2017 @ 11:06pm
I did the same as @metadavid, so I didn't use the piston platforms.
qrioso 9 Apr, 2017 @ 11:30am
Another good one. Still a bit easy. Thanks for mapping
gerversluis 30 Jan, 2017 @ 4:27am
Very nice!
metadavid 13 Jan, 2017 @ 8:40pm
I'm sure this is not the intended solution, but it's easy. I took orange funnel from start area, through first portal. While in high orange funnel, I shot a portal to the exit area then jumped to cube area. Shot other portal to the wall, took a cube directly to exit area via portals. Return to place laser cube on button to make funnel blue. Via portal back to exit area, blue funnel cube to ceiliing button and exit.

Excellent logical puzzle, good concept, design and clean implementation - I really liked this one. Took a bit of time at the beginning just thinking things thro in a logical sequence, but once that's done it's pretty easy to execute, therefore "Difficulty - Medium, Estimated play time - 10-15 mins" looks about right to me. Thanks.
PixelPerfect 24 Sep, 2016 @ 1:10pm
Solved it in 5 minutes!
jandlml 16 Sep, 2016 @ 10:04pm
another really nice test
lfairban 20 Sep, 2015 @ 2:10pm
Great logic test, and a very clean design.
Demon Arisen  [author] 20 Jul, 2014 @ 3:09pm
@wildgoosespeeder Ah right, okay, thanks. I guess I could fix that by making the portalable surface smaller.... Thanks very much for the feedback. :)
wildgoosespeeder 20 Jul, 2014 @ 2:38pm
I did exactly that what you hid . I just "funnel lifted" myself gradually to the one piston platform, never needing the other piston platform.
Demon Arisen  [author] 20 Jul, 2014 @ 2:55am
@wildgoosespeeder I'm so glad you enjoyed this so much compared to all the front page "my first test rollercoaster with turretz!!1!" crap... I was aware that that funnel trick could be used to exploit the chamber, I just haven't got around to fixing it yet... You're supposed to move the cube onto and then off the button by reversing the funnel by pushing the laser cube out of the way in the correct order - hence the name Sequence. It's a little hard to explain....

I hadn't thought too much about the title - it just rhymed so I went with it - never thought it would be so relevant to the state of the workshop... :P

Thanks very much for the feedback, I really appreciate it. :)
wildgoosespeeder 19 Jul, 2014 @ 8:33pm
This was a damn good test (compared to almost all of other people's crap)! Simple in design but around medium for difficulty. At least a good map made it front page! Now I am at least curious about your series "Quest for Tests" (very symbolic because 99% of the workshop I end up seeking gold when I get fool's gold instead).

I don't know if I solved it correctly but I used an excursion funnel trick to get me higher progressively to get onto one of the piston platforms, meaning I found there was one too many piston platforms. I don't know what your design intentions were for the double piston platform section.
Demon Arisen  [author] 17 Jul, 2014 @ 9:40am
@ZAEROS I'm glad you enjoyed it!
ZAEROS 17 Jul, 2014 @ 3:53am
Good fun map, Not too easy but enjoyable, Thank you.
Demon Arisen  [author] 16 Jul, 2014 @ 12:20pm
Wow, this chamber made it to the front page! Thanks everyone! :)
Demon Arisen  [author] 16 Jul, 2014 @ 12:15pm
@GraveNoX This test was meant to be easy, but thanks for the feedback. Future ones in this series wil be harder, and some of my other chambers are harder as well... Sorry to disappoint you... :(
GraveNoX 16 Jul, 2014 @ 6:39am
Too easy.
Demon Arisen  [author] 13 Jul, 2014 @ 6:38am
@p0rtalmaster Ah yes, that's true... But yeah that's extremely obscure. There are a couple of things in this chamber which I can't fix, which is annoying, but I'm pretty happy with it anyway....
The Sojourner 13 Jul, 2014 @ 6:12am
Not if you place the redirection cube close enough to the laser source, but who would try that and then try to get back to the start? That's why I say it's obscure. Most of the time test subjects will be able to untrap themselves as you described.
Demon Arisen  [author] 13 Jul, 2014 @ 5:54am
@p0rtalmaster I tried that too, you can reverse the funnel by funneling the laser cube so that it deactivates the laser and reverses the funnel, allowing you to come back to the island with the laser and button on. I think....
The Sojourner 13 Jul, 2014 @ 5:41am
Nope; could still trap myself, although it is indeed very obscure. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Once again, excellent work :p2cube: "As part of a required test protocol,..."
The Sojourner 13 Jul, 2014 @ 4:55am
For me, it happened because the excursion funnel was on forward. I then funneled myself towards the entrance. While it's a bit obscure, it seems difficult, if not impossible to finish the test. The trapping issue might be gone now; I'll retest....
Demon Arisen  [author] 13 Jul, 2014 @ 4:41am
Okay, problems ought to be fixed now. Let me know if you find any others though...
Demon Arisen  [author] 13 Jul, 2014 @ 4:27am
Thanks very much for all the feedback everyone, it really helps me out. I'm going to remove the angled panel and portalable floor and make the test more streamlined.

@p0rtalmaster I tried to make sure you could get off any of the islands by using the funnel... Perhaps I need to test it again... Could you perhaps give some specific examples?

Once again, thanks everyone! :)
The Sojourner 13 Jul, 2014 @ 1:49am
There are also a couple of trapping issues (the Islands case as noted here ).
The Sojourner 13 Jul, 2014 @ 1:46am
I was also able to bypass the lifts by using the excursion funnel on the angled panel (I'm not sure what it's there for anyway...)

That aside, nice test :p2cube:
cyhborg 12 Jul, 2014 @ 11:49pm
Ok, now I can download it. That's weird.
quat 12 Jul, 2014 @ 2:37pm
I didn't use the button and skipped the actually puzzle part of the test !
