There is no need for angled lasers through portals as far as I can remember
NLuziaf 10 nov 2023 om 23:29
erm- angled laser through portals wth?
Adam Warlock 12 sep 2023 om 1:30
this took me like 30 minutes to figure out succesfully, i kept managing to get the objects on the right side but couldnt figure out how to keep the laser for the longest time til i found a way to fizzle the cube from the other side by placing it really close to the fizzler

@DemonMathTeacher Haha yeah my difficulty ratings are relative to my other maps, so... :cozycrashfish:
DemonMathTeacher 26 feb 2022 om 19:53
As someone else said...if this is 3/10 I'm in for some looooong sessions ahead! :steamhappy:

fun little map :)
Mikeastro  [auteur] 20 sep 2020 om 4:53
@bullfrog Excellent! That is indeed the intended solution. Thanks a lot for the video :]
bullfrog 20 sep 2020 om 0:52
Reread your comments on my last walkthrough two years ago: alternative end sequence without using the floor surface and without “the ''laser coming in and out of the same portal''-thing you did” - intended solution?
Dark Rozen 6 aug 2020 om 7:22
Reuse of the top floor would have been nice. Maybe you could make a tower out of this concept.

@Teo Thank you :) This was my first "real" puzzle, so to speak
Teo 8 mei 2019 om 15:57
That required more thought than expected, nice puzzle
Mikeastro  [auteur] 2 mei 2019 om 10:39
@Narkodes Thanks :]
Narkodes 2 mei 2019 om 10:06
Nice little chamber.

@joe98 Thanks for playing :) It's indeed a little bit tricky
joe98 22 jan 2019 om 20:34
I can't get this out, I suspect because it is a vertical puzzle. If it were done horizontally I suspect that I could figure it out. Thanks anyway!

@Nobody No-One Yeah I finally managed to set aside my pride as a puzzlemaker and acknowledged that most of my tougher maps are not as high up on the spectrum as I naively thought when I created them. Some difficulty ratings have been dropped by a point in the higher number region, though I think I still have to explore the 7+ category of maps some more before changing more of them. With only about 650 hours in p2 at present I'm still quite a newbie compared to... you for example :p
Nobody No-One 26 okt 2018 om 15:17
It's funny; I find that your 3/10 and 4/10 difficulty ratings are usually accurate (maybe even a bit on the low side), but your 7/10 and 8/10 ratings are usually on the high side. I wouldn't say that you rate your maps too high, but more like your maps are within a smaller range of difficulty on my scale than on yours. Like, I would rate most of the maps in your Best Map collection at a 4 or 5, Reflection and Neurons at a 6/10, and Butterfly and Vector at a 7/10.
Mikeastro  [auteur] 26 okt 2018 om 14:11
@tapmage Well done solving it! Regarding the difficulty: you are correct to point out that there is not a universal difficulty rating that works for everyone and if you want to be as accurate as possible, indeed two different ratings would probably work best. Believe it or not, most 'experts' actually usually tell me I rate my maps too high instead of too low :P

Though to me the difficulty rating serves the main purpose of giving just a rough idea of the toughness of a map - when you have half an hour to play, attempting to solve an 8/10 map might be ambitious, but when playing a map rated a 3/10 you kinda know not to expect a real mind-bender. At least it helps me decide what maps to play given the amount of time I have on my hands, even if the rating might be slightly off in the end
tapmage 26 okt 2018 om 11:04
Not even sure what I'm saying. Nothing's wrong with your rating system per se, it just seems geared more towards experts, with their comments influencing the rating, so it may be harder than you realize. Or it might not? Depends. You could consider two ratings systems? One for experts and intermediates, and one for easy, more inexperienced players. But that would take some time and is probably unnecessary.
tapmage 26 okt 2018 om 11:00
Yes! Solved it! Took 12 or 15 min. I think difficulty of 4/10 might be more accurate though. The people who usually play your puzzles can probably skew your impression of the difficulty level since they are expert regulars who can solve it much quicker than others. I've learned that for myself, often whatever rating you give it that I should add about 1 or 2 points and that's the difficulty for intermediate players like myself (hence, 4/10). But if I solve it more quickly than expected then your rating seems accurate, e.g. in this case 3/10 is probably accurate. But just remember that easy for you may not be easy for LOTS of people (like Bollen). It's just a thought.

Good easy map. Thumbs up.
Mikeastro  [auteur] 4 jul 2018 om 0:08
@Libbybapa Thanks; I'm glad you liked it :)
@Joric Thanks for the video; perfect solution! This one is indeed not so hard
Joric 3 jul 2018 om 21:56
Very easy. Looks like textbook solution to me: https://youtu.be/eZLpwsxYPbw
Libbybapa 3 jul 2018 om 17:38
I enjoyed it. Fairly easy but still some good thought required.
bullfrog 3 jul 2018 om 12:45
Thanks; glad I didn't stick with my first idea ;)
Mikeastro  [auteur] 3 jul 2018 om 12:42
@bullfrog The 'other' solution is similar to yours; dropping the laser cube into a portal is not strictly necessary (all white floor surfaces could be removed in theory); you can also take the laser cube back to the exit area along with the sphere to hit the receiver and then jump down to the entrance area through the opened trapdoor; this is a slight alternative to the ''laser coming in and out of the same portal''-thing you did. In the end it amounts to the same thing :)
bullfrog 3 jul 2018 om 12:23
Most excellent, added to favourites – makes a change for me to solve a 3D puzzle. I went down the route of having the cube on a closed trapdoor and getting it to drop when it opened for a while, but gave up - is that “one of two possible solutions” you are referring to?
Mikeastro  [auteur] 3 jul 2018 om 3:05
@bullfrog Thanks again for the video! That is indeed one of two possible solutions, but they are both quite similar :)
bullfrog 3 jul 2018 om 2:54
Brilliant puzzle that took a little while to work out. Hopefully this spoiler video is the intended solution ?
jandlml 17 jun 2018 om 16:06
well its a good one
Mikeastro  [auteur] 17 jun 2018 om 3:35
@jandlml The maps before this one weren't really well thought out puzzles, so in that sense this was my 'puzzle'-making debut :)
jandlml 16 jun 2018 om 19:17
wow thats great if that was your first. ive made 3 maps they are all pretty crappy. i dont make them any more way to hard. i just wait for all you good mappers to make them
Mikeastro  [auteur] 16 jun 2018 om 2:50
@jandlml Thanks! This was sort of my puzzle making debut :)
jandlml 15 jun 2018 om 18:40
that was a deffinate head scratcher. nice puzzle
Bollen 27 feb 2018 om 19:27
Cheers! I've added it to the list... Should get to it after I finish all of yours!
Mikeastro  [auteur] 25 feb 2018 om 4:41
So far this map is the only one for which the solution has continued to elude me even after two 1-hour playing sessions: http://cs2bus.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=804595885&searchtext=Fast+Minded . Maybe when I feel like suffering again, I'll give it another go :P
Bollen 24 feb 2018 om 18:29
Great! I'll try them out once I've finished yours... :steamhappy: Any link to ones you can't solve? Sounds intriguing...
Mikeastro  [auteur] 24 feb 2018 om 3:02
@Bollen I'm glad to hear you made it! I think one of the hardest maps that I published is Neurons; I'd give it about an 8/10. One of the hardest maps I ever finished, is ''Facade'' from Stract; I would rate that one a solid 9/10 (the only reason that that's not a 10, is because that number is reserved for maps I cannot for the life of me figure out :P). Have fun melting your brain on that one!
Bollen 23 feb 2018 om 19:19
Yes, quite tricky indeed, but indeed eventually solve it, your maps are really good and challenging! I'm curious though, if you think this is a 3, could you point me to some 9s or 10s?
Mikeastro  [auteur] 22 feb 2018 om 1:54
@Bollen Thanks for playing! The idea here is that you bring the cube to its final position in such a way that you keep your portals on both sides of the fizzlers; if you manage to do that you should be done
Bollen 21 feb 2018 om 18:59
Can't for the life of me solve this one...:steamsad: Over an hour and I'm stuck in the same place: sphere and cube in their final position but can't figure out how to get the laser to open the door.. Considering most puzzles take me about 5-10 mins (mods and games' own), I would say this is more like a difficulty 10!
