Hello, remember me? You told me awhile ago to test out your chambers after you played mine. I'll check them out now! :)

Holy hell these look great!

Nice, thanks, I'm rather interested in seeing videos for the rest of the collection if you've got the time to make them. Hydrogen and Helium were the first two chambers I created so they're rather basic by comparison but you solved both in the intended way. Titanium and Lithium are fairly simple too purely because they were the third and fourth chambers created so I was still getting to know the editor. Looking forward to part 2...

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed playing through them (although gorgeous feels like a bit of an exaggeration), just out of interest, which three did you successfully complete?
Also, F6 is quick save, it really surprises me how few players know about that.
LiferAshe 8. okt. 2013 kl. 13:10
I really found these test chambers gorgeously designed, and I enjoyed just exploring them. The designer did a fantastic job coming up with these chambers. Having said that, I found that I couldn't complete more than a third of them because they seemed horribly frustrating due to the fact that there are no autosave points. The chambers are often set up in such a way that if you aren't paying attention while exploring to figure out the solution you can easily fall in acid, get burned by a laser, or shot by turrets. And, this means having to start all over from stratch, even though you probably finished one or two of the rooms in these multi-room chambers. I would definitely recommend trying these chambers, but be warned that they WILL test your patience.

Thanks for the help on my one map im gonna try these maps that look like i will enjoy. Thank you.
GreatMar2 2. okt. 2013 kl. 2:43
Ok, I understand. Do you want to play co-op with me? I'm almost finished my nexxt P2 map, but I can save it in progress.
nicklonium  [ophavsmand] 2. okt. 2013 kl. 2:02
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed playing through them. I appreciate the recommendation but I quite like being able to say that I never use mods or authoring tools for anything, partially because it isn't something I can afford to put time into but mostly because none of the tools appear to be particularly stable, or even compatible, on macs.
GreatMar2 1. okt. 2013 kl. 23:55
There is also the BEE mod . It seems the portal2backstock.com server is down, so use the cache [webcache.googleusercontent.com]

And here is a guide for test chambers. :)

I found all these things after making my map and plan to use them in my next map (well, not all of them at once).
GreatMar2 1. okt. 2013 kl. 23:30
Oh, for hammer: here is a link of how to move PeTI maps to hammer. There are also many tutorials for hammer on youtube.

What I plan to do in the future is make my map in PeTI, then add finishing touches with Hammer.
GreatMar2 1. okt. 2013 kl. 23:28
A very interesting series of tests. They are complicated and challanging. I like how each test itself gradually gets harder. I know that PeTI (the default map editor) can't add this, but if you know how to use Hammer World editor you can add auto-save points between each, or every second, section of the test chamber.

Other than that, your maps are awesome! I learnt alot of new things from them and got a few ideas. *plays with gel balls bouncing on airiel faith plates*

Thanks again for reviewing my map.
inconspicuous sock 23. sep. 2013 kl. 15:08
thanks fo grading my chamber. i put a portal surface in the cube dropper room so you where supposed to shoot one there grab the cube and ride the fath plate back up. i have created a new chamber named T0Tal Mass. that one is alo better
Noirasaur 20. sep. 2013 kl. 14:38
thanks for thee advice. (sorry i couldent find any other way to message you back) i made some more chambers. i think yours are awsome! :)
wildgoosespeeder 20. sep. 2013 kl. 9:45
It's probably a better idea to split up some of these tests into smaller maps. The periodic table of elements has a lot more than 16 elements in it. Either that or look at my profile screenshots for antline manipulation tricks.

The impulse to post my map on each item, it was more for the commenters than the author.
nicklonium  [ophavsmand] 20. sep. 2013 kl. 1:57
I'm sensing a theme in your feedback regarding symbols (and did you have to advertise your chamber on every single one of my rooms or is it just an uncontrollable reflex?). I really don't like leaving items unlabelled and antlines consume items that could be used to make a more interesting test. You must be aware that, without mods (which I don't enjoy using), the designer has no control over the symbols without changing many of them to antlines. I'm sure you can see the bind that places me in. If you know a way to control the symbols without switching them to antlines or using authoring tools, I'm all ears.
wildgoosespeeder 19. sep. 2013 kl. 22:02
I've seen you comment on various other maps and the way you represent yourself, you seem to understand good test chamber building technique. I decided to sub to all of your maps here in this collection. Overall, I see hypcricy in your test chamber designs.

Your chambers are hard in the wrong sense. They are confusing and kill you for the slightest mistake, if it is a map that can kill you when the time comes. They are relentless to solve. I feel mentally exausted after playing your chambers. You have good ideas but they are plagued by bad configurations.

Try my map?

Naurgul 13. sep. 2013 kl. 11:18
In Radium, I got stuck in the room with the blue and white gels. Maybe I was being thick, who knows. I'll give Helium a go.
nicklonium  [ophavsmand] 13. sep. 2013 kl. 10:18
Interesting, I remember thinking I was designing Radium to be a bit too easy. They're all definitely solvable but some are easier than others. Helium, Titanium, Neon and Lithium (the first four I designed) are probably the easiest to complete if you're still interested in trying them out. You might want to avoid Sulphur and Cobalt, I've been told they're a little unforgiving.
Naurgul 12. sep. 2013 kl. 22:15
I played a few of them (Radium and Chlorine) and found them way, way too hard. I'm completely stumped. :(
bank robbery display corpse 9. sep. 2013 kl. 11:48
I love the idea of this! I have yet to play, I'll give feedback then. :D :p2cube:
nicklonium  [ophavsmand] 8. sep. 2013 kl. 2:09
Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing about Hammer or any of the portal modding tools. All of these chambers are made using nothing more than the basic editor and a few weird glitches, behind the scenes mechanics and a lot of patience.
Neko Max 8. sep. 2013 kl. 0:21
Wow there are heaps of awesome and fun to solve chambers here in this elements collection.
Your chambers have given me heaps of inspiration to learn to use the Hammer SDK.

I have also made the changes you suggested to my chambers, i also re-ordered them from smallest/easiest to largest/hardest chamber, and added them to a collection.

Heres the link to my updated collection. Please tell me what you think of the changes to the chambers you already know.

http://cs2bus.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=176765705

If you know of any refrences or info on how to use Hammer it would be greatly appreciated, i have 3DS Max skills and Cad software skills, but hammer is a bit hard to learn with no refrences. lol..
Neko Max 8. sep. 2013 kl. 0:14
Awesome, Lots of good chambers in this collection, I need to learn to use the Hammer SDK!

I have also made the changes you suggested to my puzzles, re-ordered them from easiest/smallest to hardest/largest chamber, and made it a collection.

Seems interesting, I'll take a look then tell you what I think. I like the idea of tests based of the Periodic Table.
nicklonium  [ophavsmand] 15. aug. 2013 kl. 8:44
Thanks to all for playing and the feedback.
Cat, can you recall an example in my chambers where the punishment for a mistake is too harsh or do you just mean in general? I'm aware that Sulphur and Cobalt are my two harshest chambers so there's a couple of tricky moments in both.
Krikkit, the chambers aren't really meant to be played in any specific order, I know I recently added a subscribe to all button but without it I noticed players would only subscribe to the most popular at the top of the list so I never really got any good feedback on many of the others. Thanks for playing through enough to get an idea of consistency though, I'll happily give yours another go.
Krikkit 15. aug. 2013 kl. 7:54
Nice collection you've made. The only gripe I had was that the difficulty level was inconsistent. Some were a breeze while others were downright frustrating. I enjoy a challenge, but I feel that the collection as a whole would benefit if the puzzles became more difficult as you progressed through the list. That said, you are a great puzzle designer and have given me a few ideas as to what to do next! Also, I fixed the puzzle that you played and was wondering if you'd give it one more go for some more feedback. It'd be much appreciated!
Cheeze Wizard 14. aug. 2013 kl. 12:06
I liked your chamber a lot. the only problem is that some of them a easy to solve but hard to actaly do to be honest. I rarly do skill puzzles, even flinging i make sure if they don't get the moumentum right they won't die. you have a very nice set of chambers though and they deserved to be noticed.
Wikwoo 13. aug. 2013 kl. 14:00
These are extremely difficult but creative, and big, I like what you did with the gels on the faith plates.
dcpcp 13. aug. 2013 kl. 2:48
Hey this is really cool! Nice job, nicklonium.
I will look at these.
Also thanks for the feed back on my test chamber :)
Natsume 12. aug. 2013 kl. 15:36
hey im playing them right now gotta say love it
nicklonium  [ophavsmand] 11. aug. 2013 kl. 3:53
I take a fair amount of pride in saying all of my chambers are created in the basic portal 2 editor, no modifications, no additional tools, just some crafty behind the scenes mechanics the player never sees unless they noclip outside the chamber. Thanks for playing!

P.S. Watch this space for a new chamber soon.
nickle 10. aug. 2013 kl. 12:36
You are great! Yes, better than me, obiviously. Do you use Authoring Tool?
DD_The_Shmey 10. aug. 2013 kl. 1:30
Kewl Kewl, I've played the first 4 of your maps. A lot of the puzzels are skill oriented, ... like, I knew how to do them but it took like 15 tries to get it right. I'll keep playing em another night.
