meh, the walking is really awkward but it's just a tech demo so I don't know what I expected. what REALLY gets me though is the vehicle physics. they clearly are not simulating each wheel because if you stop accelerating while steering then the vehicle will stop turning far before it has come to a stop, even though the front wheels still aren't straight. also the handling is stupid. simulate your freaking wheels, dude

Not fun without friends but the game's too expensive for any of my friends to afford it

Was outed from playtest cause I misspoke, the devs probably hate me now

Crafting is too tedious, recipes are too expensive, you have to transfer resources between machines manually, there is no queue system or automation, also aluminum is far too rare now

Camera angle is bonkers, TAA is trash

But the demo was fun with friends so maybe in a few months when they have $30 to burn then we'll be able to play together again

Positive review because I still love the game

This is the successor to the first The Room game, which I finished a couple days ago. This game is a bit more demanding since it was designed for PC first - my laptop has trouble running it at 4k60, but not too much trouble.

Of course, this game has more puzzles, and more lore. Instead of working with a single puzzle box, you're working in rooms filled with multiple puzzles. You will be interacting with things like crossbows, lasers, and even rowboats.

This game has much the same vibe as the first game. I think that's a good thing; there are the same controls, the same style, the same (amazing!) sound design. It still gives me a very Dishonored vibe as well - the gritty aesthetic, the non-euclidean clockwork mixed with magic and technology.

The puzzles are just as good, of course. I ended up needing the hints a bit more in this game compared to the first one. You will be mixing and matching components from different parts of the room in order to complete the puzzles. It helps not to forget anything you've seen, because there are a few situations where you will be going back to something you saw at the very start.

Curiously, completing this game took about the same amount of time as completing the original for me. Still definitely worth the $5.

I love this game. This game gets everything right. This is truly a good PC port.

About the game itself:

The Room is a game about solving puzzle boxes. Not, like, normal puzzle boxes, but sort of like magic-infused clockwork contraptions that use the box in order to test your puzzle-solving ability. It gives about 3 hours of gameplay.

The story elements are not irrelevant as other reviewers claim. They are a nice touch on top of this game's great puzzle solving. I am very into magic and science and technology and alchemy and this just tickles my fancy. It's like a combination of all four. And the concept of null and void is just interesting to explore. Even if the story doesn't really lead anywhere in the end.

The puzzles are great. But they are very difficult to figure out. I haven't played a good puzzle game in forever, so I had to look up a guide for about 2 items. For some reason text-based guides are very hard to find; the Steam guide on this just links videos, which I don't care about.

This game is non-euclidean. Spaces are bigger on the inside. Things change when you shift your perspective. It really feeds into the mystery and atmosphere.

About the port quality:

I love the fact that you can flick the camera around and it has momentum. This makes it much easier to play the game on a trackpad, and is much appreciated. This is probably just a holdover from mobile, but I like it nonetheless.

I also love the deep and immersive audio. Headphones just don't do it justice - you can hear the low frequencies, but can't feel them. I played the game on my sound system and it was well worth it. You can feel every heartbeat, every little bit of ambiance. I suggest you do the same if you are able.

Even though they re-did the assets for PC, it still runs great on low-end hardware. I have no problems playing the game in 4K Ultra on my puny mobile 2060, and it still looks amazing even at that resolution.

This was one of my favorite games on the Xbox 360, and I'm glad to see that it still holds up even in 2022! I love Steam so much for letting games like this stay online and purchasable.

The max supported resolution is 1080p, regardless of your video card, but that just makes for a more authentic experience when combined with Lossless Scaling on my 4K monitor. The pixellated look just adds to the style of the game.

I haven't completed a full playthrough yet, but I was able to pay off my loan on the first go, and seem to be pretty well on track. The gameplay is just as fun as it was a decade or so ago. The controls on PC are pretty good, other than the fact that key repeat doesn't work for movement.

The game feels super snappy and responsive, which I guess is to be expected for something so old. There are no issues running it on Windows 10, as long as you don't try to fullscreen the game, which is also to be expected since it uses exclusive fullscreen. But Lossless Scaling lets you make a window fill the whole screen without actually changing resolutions, so that's what I used.

I haven't interacted with the developers directly, but their Steam Discussions posts from when the game was still new seem super friendly and passionate. I feel like they love the game just as much as I do, which is really nice.

All in all, absolutely worth the $10. This isn't one of those games where it's worse than you remember it.

I finished the game in like 20 minutes, idk why people make such a big deal out of this game it's so short. Btw all my friends keep telling me about the 'broom closet ending' there's more than one ending?
