Great Western Mainline - BR Blue Period late 1970s to early 1980s

Description
This Route is a modified version of the original Great Western Mainline Route designed to represent the "BR Blue" period from the late 70s to early 80s.

Many changes have been made, too many to list here in full, a summary of changes made to represent the "BR Blue Period" below -

All OHLE has been removed, North Pole and Old Oak Common depots removed/remodelled.

Reading and Oxford stations extensively re-modelled for the period.

Reading area remodelled with modern Business Parks removed and replaced with correct scenery for the period eg. Earley Power Station.

General removal of offices and business parks throughout the Route which were not in place during the period.

Modern mileposts/speed signs replaced by older versions.

NB. If you are driving using the HUD the upper speed limit will still appear as 125 MPH, track-side signs are correct for the period with upper speed being 100 MPH.

The screen shot is of the re-modelled Reading Station.

Update November 21st - The Route has been updated with several corrections and improvements, everybody who subscribed before this date should receive an automatic update - improvements include changes to various buildings, a crossover added to provide access to Reading 1,2 & 3 from the Basingstoke branch and various cosmetic scenery enhancements.

Final update November 22nd - Reading Western Tower rotated to face the right direction, terrain raised at Didcot and Southall to fix floating sidings.

NB. Requires the original Great Western Mainline.

The Quick Drive scenario may not be showing up, to remedy this please follow the instructions below -

From Main Menu

Build > Scenario > scroll down to route > click on route.

That brings up "QD Quick drive Scenario Paddington to Reading" > click on that.

Bottom right of screen is "Edit" > click on that.

When the scenario loads in the Editor just click on the triangle at the bottom right of the screen "Drive".

Please note - the Earley Power Station chimneys have smoke coming out of both the chimney tops and also a point around halfway up/down......it is impossible to correct this in a way to be compatible with the Workshop. A small patch is available here -

Update November 23rd - link changed to also include a correction to the length of platform 4 at Reading -

http://uploadfiles.eu/ficz08nhas9g/GWML-Blue_Patch_v1.rwp.html

Simply download the file and install it via the Package Manager, this will cause the smoke to appear from the correct places and platform 4 at Reading to be lengthened..

Update 09/12/14 - Three of us are currently working on extending my version of the GWML Route - we will be breaking new ground and extending first to Swindon and then we will decide our next direction. We are also setting this in the BR Blue Period.....we will publish updates at suitable intervals, the first will probably be a remodelling of the Didcot area to suit the BR Blue Period....all subscribers will receive updates automatically.

Could you supply an updated link for the patch please? - it seems to be invalid. Thanks. :)

Is this route in fact final? Scenarios cannot be posted for it yet, I do believe, so I'm curious what exists and if this 09/12/14 update is anywhere now.

do this same exact route but in 2017 and branch lines to Greenford, Heathrow, Windsor, Marlow and Henley and overhead wires for every single line because I want to use the Class 801s on the line

This route is based on the Paddington to Oxford route which is available on Steam.

Can you tell me which Great Western route to use please ? The one on Steam (Paddington to Oxford? )

Thank you, yes very interested in both. The steam scenario we've planned is a bit of a one-off, but BR blue is our main focus.

Hi Rosgar - thanks...we are concentrating on the BR Blue period but I'm sure that others may be interested in producing steam era routes.

You might also be interested in our other BR Blue routes -

http://cs2bus.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=399732174 - which is an extension of this route with new track through to Swindon.

http://cs2bus.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=460363395 - which is a BR Blue version of the original Liverpool to Manchester route with many scenery changes for the period.

We are currently working on adding Edge Hill to Manchester Victoria to Liv/Man ( BR Blue ) which we hope to publish in a few weeks.

A good variation for this original route, now looks far better for the Blue era. Wondering if we dare throw it back a few more years to the last years of steam?

I have added some screenshots which show the work that Nick has been doing at Swindon Works - please note that this is still Work In Progress.
