Intro
You're rewarded with a bunch of loot the first time you beat Velgar, but killing him again doesn't give you much. If you spin up a new world with the same character, the Wise Old Man remembers your deeds and prevents you from getting any more of that phat loot. This guide shows how to overcome this limitation in a creative way, specifically to farm the Tome of the Dragon Slayer.

This approach does require some farming and a specific fast travel network to be established. Once these things are in place you can repeatably kill Velgar in about 5 - 7 minutes and be rewarded with all the phat loot each time.

How, you might ask? Simple:-
  • By creating a new character in your existing game world and equipping him with your T4 gear.
  • By having an extensive teleportation network (and use of the unstuck function).
  • By having chests strategically placed around your game world filled with the necessary items.
Afterwards, store the Tome in a chest, delete the character and replace him with another. Then go again. Simple!
Farming
Some farming is required to enable multiple Velgar kill runs. The quantity of each item you need depends on how many times you want to kill Velgar and what you already have on hand. Each run will require the following:
  • Roughly 100 Law runes (depends on if you use the unstuck feature or not)
  • 1 Antler
  • 1 Dragon Tooth and 1 Bloodwood Sap
  • 15 copper ore and 15 tin (5 bronze bars)
  • 1 Clay vessel, 1 harralander and 1 bittercap mushroom (anti-poison potion)
As per the map below, you'll be farming for items in these locations:
  • Antlers #1
  • Vault Cores to expand your teleportation network #2
  • Clay, harralander and bittercap mushrooms for anti-poison potions #3
  • Bloodwood Sap #4
  • Dragon Teeth #5
  • Iron ore for a stack of iron arrows (optional for rangers #5)
  • Copper ore and tin ore to make bronze ingots #6
  • Rune essence / law runes for teleportation (everywhere)
  • Stone and rune essence for basic ward stones (optional - everywhere)

Farming hints and tips:
  • Deer drop their antlers and there are several found in the starter area and around the Wise Old Man.
  • Vault Cores respawn and gates you've opened remain open. The first vault has 3 cores close together which makes it an ideal location to grab them from.
  • Ingredients for anti-poison potions all come from the Whispering Swamp. There is a cave on the north side of the zone that has about 20 bittercap mushrooms in it.
  • 7 Bloodwood Sap can be farmed per time from the camp in the Bloodblight Swamp.
  • 7-9 Dragon Teeth can be farmed per time from the dragon's mouth in the Stormtouched Highlands.
  • Copper and tin ore can be found throughout the Fractured Plains. I like to get mine from the vault in the centre of the Fractured Plains.
  • Close to the #5 teleport are two caves with several iron ore nodes (one at the zone's vault entrance and the other is just east of the teleporter)
Fast travel network, chest locations and other items

Lodestones need to be placed around the map at the following locations for the actual run:
  • Beside the Wise Old Man in the village.
  • Beside the book in the goblin camp.
  • Beside the entrance to the Whispering Swamp's vault.
  • Beside Cathan.

Also, you also need to build a bed and place it in a 1x1 house next to the Wise Old Man.

Finally, chests need to be placed:
  • By the Church which contains gear, law runes, anti-poison potions and ingredients for the Summoning Horn.
  • By the Wise Old Man in the village which contains antlers.
  • Optionally, you can build a Smithing Anvil by Cathan so you can immediately make the Summoning Horn upon receiving the quest and go fight Velar without delay.
Once you're completed the preparations it's time for the actual fun to start.
The Run
Follow these steps to victory:
  • Create a new character and join your existing world.
  • Skip the intro, speak to the Wise Old Man and skip the tutorial.
  • Go to your chest by the Church and equip your gear.
  • Run back to the Church Lodestone and teleport to the Wise Old Man in the village.

  • Break the bed in the house, rebuild and then claim it. Grab an antler from the chest. Talk to the Wise Old Man twice.
  • Teleport to the goblin castle and read the book then teleport to the Swamp's vault entrance.

  • Use the ramp to jump the rats and run up the stairs, turn left and run into the room with the lever. Talk to Splitfoot.
  • Press Esc and hold X to unstuck (this returns you to the Church).
  • Teleport to the Wise Old Man and talk to him.
  • Teleport to Cathan. Craft the Summoning Horn and then run to the tower. Ignore the Thane.

  • Drink the anti-poison potion and summon Velgar. Run to position 1 and get ready to take him on.
If you're not too familiar with the battle you can get an in-depth walkthrough of the fight in my Velgar vault guide:-

  • Pew pew for a couple of rounds then win!
  • Press Esc and hold X to unstuck
  • Teleport to the Wise Old Man, hand over Velgar's head and collect all the phat loot.
  • Teleport to the Church (it's quicker than getting there via unstuck).
  • Store the loot and your gear in the chest next to the Church. Don't forget to store your Law Runes too.
  • Log out delete the character.
Now, repeat as often as you'd like :)

Simple!!

Go back to farming whenever you're low on an item. Then hit up Velgar some more.

Results
Once you've got as many Tomes as you'd like the only thing left to do is decide when to use them; either now or bank them until the game is updated to include ranged and magic skills.

Given how easy it is to farm the materials and ultimately the boss, I killed him 10 times and banked the books.

But then I got itchy fingers so wanted to see how many levels 10x Dragon Slayer Tomes would give me. Before using the skill books on my main character I was lvl 5 for ranged and 7 for magic.

And after using them. Well, the results speak for themselves.

Enjoy!! :)

Many of these steps can be skipped - grab the book and tele to swamp - have mats already for the horn - port to boss. You can skip the first 2 'quests'.

Nah - this is a great way to prepare for the next release of game content. Store the Tomes if you’re worried your skills will be reset. Simple! 😊
