The guide is written from the perspective of a ranger character.

You have the quest.



You have the horn.



You know where to go.



The vault door awaits you.



Now, place the horn.


It's time for payback.


To make it incredibly easy, drink an anti-poison potion and pop a wardstone or two at the start of the fight. The fight is surprisingly easy and consists of two phases - a ground phase followed by an air phase. He starts on the ground where he'll stay for about 5-10 seconds.


Then he'll fly up to drop his poison all over the area.


Then he'll return to the ground for another 5-10 seconds, then in the air again. On and on it will go.

Each ground phase will be at a different point of the battle area.

• When you first start the fight he'll always be directly in front of where the alter is - position 1
  
• The next ground phase he'll be on the right - position 2
  
• The third he'll be on the left - position 3. Then he goes back to position 1 and the cycle repeats.

During his ground phase Velgar will either be doing nothing, spraying poison around the arena, or using a ground slam ability.

• The animation for the poison breath is he'll lift his head back like he's about to sneeze, then he'll spray you with poison. You'll negate all damage this causes if you've popped your anti-poison potion, so you can literally just ignore it and continue to DPS him.
  
• The animation for the ground stomp is he'll raise both paws off the ground and slam them back down, causing a shockwave of spikes to move towards your position. This can kill you if you get stuck in it and you don't have a wardstone active, so roll left or right to avoid any damage.

The only thing that changes during his air phase is the number of goblets that he drops directly on you.

• During his initial air phase he'll drop 3 on you.
  
• During his second air phase he'll drop 4 on you.
  
• During his third air phase he'll drop 5 on you.
  
• During his fourth air phase he'll drop 6 on you.

The goblets hurt if they land on you, so dodge roll away from them (and no, your anti-poison potion won't save you from being hurt).


Continue to DPS Velgar and he won't last very long.


The Wise Old Man will give you a pat on the back too.



And you'll be rewarded with some phat loot. The recipe for the Dragonblight Shield.

And most importantly, the Tome of Dragon Slaying which gives a whopping 500xp to all damage types - melee, ranged and magic.



Reading the Tome increases magic and ranged skills to level 20 each, and those skills aren't in the game yet! :)
