ROUTE: Glenwood Springs-Denver Version 1.1

Description
ROUTE UPDATE Go here for the latest version. It will be updated there and you won't have to keep subscribing to new Works in Progress. http://cs2bus.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=723163372

ROUTE : USA North America, COLORADO, Moffat Tunnel Subdivision (I think) covering Glenwood Springs to Denver. This is basically a mountain route. The Moffat Tunnel cuts through the Great Divide of North America.

WORK IN PROGRESS (Early Stages so you will see lots of errors)

Track extends to Cinnamon Creek now, about half way to Dotsero where (will in this route and it does in real life) it then heads North to head through the Moffat Tunnel to Denver.

Anyone willing to supply photographs of the rocks (there are lots of rocks and canyon walls and cuttings!) of this route will get their name mentioned if they wish in the credits.

But photos of major buildings, landmarks and things will be needed.

Quick Drive scenarios work. If you want others, such as free roam or standard, please speak up.

The beginning of something special.

This is a spectacular route which has featured in movies, such as Steven Seagal's Warner Brothers Under Siege 2.

The location of Glenwood Springs is the start point of the route and even this area is only 10-20% complete.

It gives you a few miles to wet your appetite with and please leave comments if you are interested in this. Photos and local knowledge and input always welcome!

If 3d Models can be made (I may make some myself) I will have to use an external site to upload this route to as workshop will not accept 'foreign' content.

But I will attempt to lay track (Using Donner Pass as it is wood sleepers) for the whole route first so anything extra can be added on later.

If anyone provides knowledge of the route it will be used in the description. Any stories, videos, photos and information is all helpful.

Have a drive of it and see how you like it.

Compared to the Genoa Route (which I am working on now!) there is a lot of close objects that need to be placed. Hopefully rail buffs and Train Sim buffs from Denver or even Glenwood Springs area could offer some advice and the above.

There is 1 tunnel in the route so far as the length is from Glenwood Springs West to No Name Creek so far.

Photos of high rise buildings in Denver could be useful as I may use them to build 3d models in future.

I am sure if there are any objects or scenery you would love to have in the route, send it in.

As I said when I have finished the basics and uploaded the Basic version to Workshop here (with track all the way to Denver at least!) I will add in the external models that need to be created and then this needs to be uploaded to a site external to Workshop.

Completion (Basic) : 10%

Route Miles : Approximatley 160-200 miles (I have been looking for information on this)

Subdivision: (Is this the Moffat Tunnel Subdivision of Union Pacific?)

Scenarios: Quick Drive

Downloadable Content Required to use this route:
Donner Pass
Cajon Pass

The Moffat Route, built by (and named for) David Halliday Moffat's Denver Northwestern & Pacific Railway began construction in 1904 and ended at Craig, CO in 1913. The line ran over a 23 mile 'temporary' 4% grade across Rollins Pass until the Moffat Tunnel was completed in 1927.

It became the Denver & Salt Lake two years after Moffat's death in 1911. The Dosero cutoff was constructed in 1932, linking the Moffat with the Denver & RIo Grande Western's Tennessee Pass Line, giving the Moffat access to Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, and Salt Lake City, which the Moffat never reached on it's own.

The D & SL and D & RGW merged on April 11, 1947. The rest of the history is mentioned elsewhere in the comments.

It's been a while since I've looked up the origins of this route in particular. I believe it was built by the D&RGW, and maybe their rival ATSF had trackage rights to it. If it was D&RGW, then in 1988 it would become Southern Pacific and then, in 1996, Union Pacific. In 1996, ATSF would become BNSF.

Thank you, yes I did notice that (about vegetation and forest). Thank you for the info. Also yes the map editor has a google earth overlay.

Judging by the screenshots, it looks like you went a bit overboard on the desert textures. The area is a bit dry in real life (due to the mountains blocking some of the rain), but for the most part, the area is mostly forested.

The Moffat Tunnel Subdivision is owned by Union Pacific. BNSF has trackage rights over the area.

Are you using google earth as a reference to re-create this route in the game?

Looking forward to this
