@Mikeastro

Nah, you get the credit for coming up with it, making it work, and making great YouTube vids :)

@zeo1337 Ayy let's go! Well done cracking this tough nut :cozycrashfish:
zeo1337 24 Jan, 2024 @ 9:09am
I got it mike! After that, it took me a bit to figure out what I had to do different in the second section. Then at the end I thought I needed to do another fling, not realizing I already solved it ::p2orange:

@Mikeastro

Hang on.... I just realized there's another way I can do what I just did
Mikeastro  [author] 23 Jan, 2024 @ 5:27pm
@zeo1337 This map deserves a rework at some point because there are several unfortunate unintended solutions here, though overall they mostly follow the same steps. Would you like a hint or would you like some more time to think about this one?
zeo1337 23 Jan, 2024 @ 3:01pm
Well I managed to get this far:

https://cs2bus.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3146024268

Other than the timing specific nature of the last move, it feels like I've done all the right moves. Yet, without the ability to fling or something, I'm unable to keep the portal or get it back without starting over.
Mikeastro  [author] 1 Aug, 2022 @ 2:28am
@Mr Fab Thanks for playing! I finally completed watching your blind run. You solved the first sequence with the same unintended solution found by Nock: bringing the cube into the high up funnel room to retrieve it, instead of respawning it using the piston. This is completely a fault of my own, though; this map is just a little broken in that way. It skips what I consider to be the nicest little sequence of the map. You also skipped a few moves by using off centered portals to make the funnel miss the piston, but those are just details. Overall you did a great job solving it and I'm glad you liked it! I really should remake this one some day to iron out all the unintended solutions and to somehow remove the repetition without breaking the map :D
Mr Fab 1 Jul, 2022 @ 9:59pm
Good and hard puzzle ! The hardest part for me was getting to the perma button. Awesome portal management and great moves  Favorited !

@Aneonen Fantastic work solving this one! It's quite complex indeed. My apologies for the confusion in the description - it's unfortunate that that happened to you. I'm happy to hear that you still enjoyed it in the end :D Thanks a lot for playing!
Aneonen 16 Sep, 2020 @ 11:08am
A few months ago I started this puzzle, but I ended up having to quit early. It's sat at the top of my queue, but yesterday l I decided to give it another crack.
Excellent puzzle! I think it has a very good narrative in how the player visits and revisits different locations in the chamber. At first I felt the funnel section would be disjoint from everything else, but it allowed for a nice re-envisioning of previous spaces. I particularly liked the platform cube fizzle, and the important differences between the two bridges.
Unfortunately, I misread the description and thought that both flip panels were included to avoid redundancy, not just the one, leaving me stuck at the checkpoint. After seeing that part of 可砸's video though I understood my error. The repetition didn't bother me that much - I actually found it a little comical that I had to work to remember the moves I had already forgotten from the beginning of the chamber, haha.
Great work - very enjoyable!
Mikeastro  [author] 26 Jul, 2020 @ 4:01am
@可砸 Thank you so much for playing and for the video! Your solution was perfect! The flip panel is indeed a bit weird, it will probably be removed if I ever update the map because it can be exploited to break the map. The repetition is a bit unfortunate, sadly. Anyway, I'm very happy to hear that you enjoyed both the puzzle and the music :D
可砸 26 Jul, 2020 @ 3:42am
It might be the tough three months…I have to admit, I was completely defeated by this puzzle :p
Fortunately, I found that I missed something till today…the funnel can take good care of the cube,so I can reach the glass floor:frankiesmile:...what a perfect logical arrangement!!!But what surprised me most was the second light bridge,it brings the whole cycle to life, and that epic fizzler there:lolo: ,fine…dear mike, this puzzle is really awesome…although the flip panel is a bit weird, it did heal me after the repetition.I seriously agree that the difficulty is 7/10, though I don’t think so in April. =。= Anyway the music is cool too!Excellent puzzle, big thumbs up!

Mikeastro  [author] 10 Jun, 2020 @ 10:05am
@Spacekitty Thank you very much for playing, and excellent work solving it! I've been thinking of maybe sometime releasing just the first part of the puzzle by itself, as I think the repetition in between both sequences is, as you said, the biggest downside to the map. I'm glad you enjoyed it in the end :D
SpKi 10 Jun, 2020 @ 9:35am
Truly an excellent map. I played this the first time about a year ago I believe, where I ended up jumping on a cube to solve the 2nd sequence in an unintended way because I couldn't think of anything else :p Since then, I have always had this map in the back of my mind and I'm glad I came back to it. I think I finished it this time in about one and a half hours, around that time anyways. With this in mind, 7/10 seems about right. Either way, this map has lots of creative ideas combined with great portal management. I absolutely loved both sequences, though I think I prefer the first one mostly because it requires less portal surfaces and forces more interesting reuses. It also doesn't need as many extra rooms as the 2nd one. However, solving it was very satisfying. The biggest downside of the map is of course the repetition, though I didn't even mind it that much. The flip panel definitely helps here. Thumbs up and favorited :]
kwinten 27 Feb, 2020 @ 3:33pm
I'm not completely against repeating steps, but there are a lot to redo here with only few differences in between. I forgot to mention that the design was quite nice.. you're right, i leave a thumb up to be encouraging, at least for the positive points :p2aperture:
Mikeastro  [author] 27 Feb, 2020 @ 3:10pm
@kwinten Thank you very much for playing! Excellent work solving most of it.
Having to redo quite some steps is indeed a major downside of this map, even more so after learning that I should probably remove the flip panel altogether because it can be used to break the map in its present state. If you are really strongly opposed to repeating some steps, you could always just noclip to wherever you want to be and proceed from there ;)
Sad to hear I won't get a rating, but I'm glad you enjoyed the first part at least :]
kwinten 27 Feb, 2020 @ 3:02pm
I had a lot of fun with this map (the map is more a 8/10 or 8.5/10 difficulty than 7/10 i would say) the movements involved are diversified and clevers... until i get to the "2nd passage". When i understood i had to redo *almost* all the previous moves, the fun disappeared, and even if i know you decided to put some white panels to limitate the long-run-again, i didn't feel the courage to go to the end
I'm mitigated so i won't rate this map, but i still appreciate the work you did put on it !
Mikeastro  [author] 8 Jan, 2020 @ 3:06am
@Rain Thanks for playing! Excellent work solving this difficult map. The hardest part is indeed to press the button. The ceiling flip panel can be used to bypass some of tbe logic, I should really fix that soon. Anyway, I'm glad you liked it :D
µ 7 Jan, 2020 @ 7:47pm
This map was very difficult for me. It was hell.

I got to know you through this map.
The first interesting song I listen to while playing creative map, clean map design
I really wanted to be clear, so I worked hard.

But it was so difficult that I sometimes gave up. XD

It took me a week to clear this map.

The process of pressing the button to turn the panel was a real challenge.
The size of the map is very big, but there are many parts that need to be used as a whole.
I think it was a map that felt more difficult.
Because of that, I used F6 F7 a lot. XD
After pressing the button, it felt like it was less difficult.
I think it's because the panel is upside down and the process is easier.

It took me about 10 minutes to clean this map from beginning to end.
I don't know if this is normal, but it took a long time.

This map is very difficult, but the process of solving was very interesting.
It was so much fun!
Mikeastro  [author] 15 Sep, 2019 @ 2:50am
@Spider_Dawg Thanks a lot for the videos! You correctly identified both possible shortcuts that I did know of (but only learnt about recently) and I will update the map very soon. Your videos looked smooth indeed :]
Spider_Dawg 14 Sep, 2019 @ 7:50pm
I've put together a couple of videos in case you want to prevent my solution, although it was still tough to solve. I haven't watched any but Joric's videos, so apologies if my solution isn't as unique as I think. Since I'm a much better video editor than video gamer (not saying much) I had to stitch together a bunch of edits to keep the first video under 2 days in length. First part, up to flipping the panel :

https://youtu.be/CorWJbFdb64

I basically did the second part exactly like the first, with a much simpler ending:

Mikeastro  [author] 12 Sep, 2019 @ 10:56pm
@Spider_Dawg Excellent work solving this one. I think that this one indeed requires a small update to force the "full" solution, but the first half is definitely the hardest to figure out. Thanks for all the work you put into these :P
Spider_Dawg 12 Sep, 2019 @ 6:42pm
Very tough puzzle for me, used the heck out of F6 on this one. I solved it quite differently than Joric's video, but my head was spinning so insanely while watching it that I can't describe the differences. Basically I did the second half virtually the same as the first. Thanks for all the work you put into these.
Mikeastro  [author] 7 Sep, 2019 @ 6:39pm
@kimist108 Admirable determination! This puzzle is not easy at all, so excellent work solving it. I hope you enjoyed the whole journey in the end :]
kimist108 7 Sep, 2019 @ 5:31pm
I have no idea how much time it took me to get to the exit. For your maps (puzzles), this map has the record number of rage quits. There is only one way to get to that last section, and it gave me fits until I finally got the correct sequence.
Mikeastro  [author] 7 Sep, 2019 @ 2:48am
@Joric Holy shit. Completely intended. Thanks for the video :]
Joric 6 Sep, 2019 @ 10:13pm
Huh I didn't have that on record. Slightly optimized watchable solution: https://youtu.be/Ed-MIF9JCP4
Mikeastro  [author] 6 Sep, 2019 @ 12:36pm
@•‹†ρđ› ĐūšР2ķ• Thank you! Excellent work solving it. I could copy your comment with our names swapped and post it below your ''Parhelion'', which I played just the other day :] Video will come out next week
•‹†ρđ› ĐūšР2ķ• 6 Sep, 2019 @ 12:25pm
Great puzzle Mike! It was quite challenging but I managed it.
Teo 25 Aug, 2019 @ 8:32am
Replayed because I realized I skipped a section with a questionable move, still wonderful
Mikeastro  [author] 31 Jul, 2019 @ 10:03pm
@Teo Thank you :D This particular map was created by first making a light bridge puzzle and then just adding a funnel to see what would happen :P Excellent work solving it!
Teo 31 Jul, 2019 @ 4:13pm
Dude, that was insane. I do not understand how people come up with this stuff. I really loved how much surfaces were reused and the variety of moves in such a 'small' space; very satisfying to solve. The hardest part was remembering what to do the second time around :P
Libbybapa 26 May, 2019 @ 8:50am
Very nice map. I enjoyed that a lot. Very satisfying to solve. I believe that I solved it all as intended. I enjoyed both sequences (before and after the permabutton) although I think the sequence before was more challenging than the one afterward. Definitely add to the 'best of'.
Mikeastro  [author] 6 May, 2019 @ 3:51pm
@Requiemsoul Excellent work! I'm glad you liked the puzzle. I agree that the first sequence forms the core of the puzzle, but it just didn't feel right to not have the cube with you at the exit :P Also the second sequence adds a few more reuses, so I liked it enough in the end to include it. I really wish the permabutton could do something that allows to skip more moves, because the repetition part is the one thing keeping me from adding it to my ''best of'' collection.
Requiemsoul 6 May, 2019 @ 3:34pm
Done 100 % planned solution. In my opinion, you must add it to your "Best of" collection, but.. all the latest section is a bit redundant with a pretty interesting variation. The core of the puzzle is the first one until you press the "square" button.
Difficulty: 8/10 for experienced players.
Mikeastro  [author] 6 May, 2019 @ 2:35pm
@Requiemsoul Thanks for playing! The square signage panel is just to save time and not a necessary part of the puzzle, as it says in the description. Also thanks for the video; the way you bypassed the second sequence is a known exploit - that's why it also says in the description that you shouldn't jump off the cube ;) I'll fix that stupid thingy soon
Requiemsoul 6 May, 2019 @ 12:49pm
The puzzle is superb but I think this solution is not intended. I never used "signage square" ceiling panel.

Nobody No-One 20 Apr, 2019 @ 8:50am
Yeah, I did the same thing at first.
bullfrog 18 Apr, 2019 @ 2:13am
Yes I enjoyed it and I'm glad I'm not alone ;)
Mikeastro  [author] 18 Apr, 2019 @ 2:09am
@bullfrog Thanks for playing :) It's indeed really quite tricky to work out the middle part; I think most players try to make the solution to the second bit work while trying to work out the first. I hope you liked it regardless
bullfrog 18 Apr, 2019 @ 1:23am
I eventually gave up and looked at @Nobody No-One's walkthrough - turns out that what I was doing was part of the solution, just not at that point - oh hum! Anyway; that's my problem not yours - big thumbs up.
Mikeastro  [author] 13 Apr, 2019 @ 4:58pm
@Leomievs Thank you very much for the high praise o_O I'm really happy to hear that you enjoyed it. I'll keep thinking about the repetition part in the back of my mind, so who knows, maybe if I can fix that someday. Your blind run was an adventure of hope, despair and ultimately, victory - very cool to see :D
Leo 11 Apr, 2019 @ 1:18pm
Truly brilliant puzzle. Very complex and quite a big room, which gave me trouble keeping track of what I needed to do sometimes. In the end I did solve it though, and it felt reaaally satisfying. You've outdone yourself with this one in term of length of the solution and reuses. I do agree that the map would be better off without the repetition of steps, but I have no idea how you could avoid it. I already have trouble wraping my mind around the map as it is :P anyway, definitely added to my favourites, and as promised here is my blind run. As you'll see I got stuck for a little while around the middle, I kept repeating the same thing, which looks dumb, but I didn't know what else to do xD
Mikeastro  [author] 10 Apr, 2019 @ 11:57pm
@Andi Well done solving it! Glad you liked it
@Narkodes Thanks for playing and the feedback! I would have replied with the same remark as Nobody No-One about your second point, but I think your first is a valid complaint. I could maybe make the wall stick out a bit behind the button, but it would make it seem a bit cramped. Also, I agree that the repetition is a bit bothersome. Using the flipped ceiling panel you can skip about a third of the sequence, but it still takes you about two minutes of replaying to get back to where you were. I'll keep thinking of ways to improve that fraction. And yeah, cube tossing... I gave up on fixing that a while ago. It's just too annoying.
@jandlml Ah, thanks, I understand what you did now. I'll think of a way to prevent that. I'm glad you enjoyed it in the end! I'll put it at 8/10 then for now
@Atom Thank you! I'm happy to hear that you liked it :D
Psychological Atom 10 Apr, 2019 @ 10:17pm
Very excellent puzzle indeed! Thumbs up and faved! :)
jandlml 10 Apr, 2019 @ 7:32pm
ok i tried that map. yeah i cant finish it. its off the scale to me.
jandlml 10 Apr, 2019 @ 7:30pm
right thats why i said that im usually pretty slow on seeing things. but others like you lol are pretty quick. you are right though polux and camerson have some hard but really good maps. Toncica too. he still has maps i cant finish. is that map you mentioned good?
Nobody No-One 10 Apr, 2019 @ 7:05pm
I tend to be very conservative with my difficulty ratings just because I know there can be much harder maps out there, like some of camerson1313 or Polux's creations. For instance, if I rated this a 9/10, the map Megadimension NEXT Test which I played recently would be way off the scale. But numerical difficulty ratings are hard because sometimes one person will see something quickly that another person will take a long time to see, or the other way around.
jandlml 10 Apr, 2019 @ 6:28pm
yay!! i figured it out. oh that makes me feel much better. excellent puzzle!! faved. i still thinks its closer to 9/10. but it always takes me longer to get the answer. i hope you can understand what i said in my previous comment
jandlml 10 Apr, 2019 @ 5:42pm
after getting the bridge to the funnel area for the second time ,after the panels are flipped. i just kept the cube on the orange funnel button, took the bridge down to the angled panel room . put a portal with the bridge on the surface now flipped over so i can get to the pedestal button. jumped down after the fizzle is disabled. then from there i just go get the cube . by putting a portal under the bridge. so now all i have to do is go into the angeled panel room ,hit the funnel ,jump on top of the cube ,jump up and grab the cube at the same time. . now i just let it take me to the pedestal button, and i hit it . jump down with the cube and im out ive been wracking my brain trying to figure out how to get up to that room. i just cant come up with a way. i know i either need to fling or use the funnel. i cant get into position to use either one. but im going to keep trying
