how did you add the vault door in hammer?
Petutski 27 Dec, 2015 @ 10:03pm
Nicely done. A bit short.
Robolovsky 20 Feb, 2014 @ 12:53pm
Good but too short. Is there a part two?

Aperture, in the fifties, had a lot of money. In future maps, use warm colors, an expensive-looking materials. Especially in the offices. DON'T use testing materials in the offices too much. (The white tiles you used were for tests.) If you need a portalable wall, use a concrete texture, not one from the tests. And use displacement; in underground maps, displacement is your friend. Also, while this map was okay, including a little more than a simple fling (which I had to try multiple times (info_placement_helpers are your friends with flings) would have been good. It felt a bit too brief. Sorry for the long comment, by the way, just some stuff to consider in future maps.

Even if this is the beginning of a series then it still would have been good for there to be some sort of puzzle. This is basically the same thing in one part of the single player game, just reskinned and rearranged a bit.

If this is the 50's Aperture use expensive materials and warm colors. In the dev commentary it points out Aperture had a lot of money at that time, and everyone was eager to do science. When you progress into the 70's and 80's, the materials become cheaper, as Aperture was far in debt through harder times. They had plastic and linoeum walls and floors. If you're aiming for a 50's, 70's, or 80's enviroment lok for cheap and expensive materials.

How much would a good windows laptop run you?
Ves  [author] 9 Feb, 2014 @ 3:31am
Yes, definitely. If I were you, I wouldn't risk Bootcamp and just get a Windows.
Tommy_Lobster 8 Feb, 2014 @ 7:31pm
That's okay. Just thought I'd ask. Hey, thanks for asking me to be your friend! Don't think I'll try the bootcamp procedure, better safe than sorry!
Ves  [author] 8 Feb, 2014 @ 5:13pm
I always hate when I have to tell people no. No, by the way. Unless you want to use Bootcamp and download the ENTIRE Windows operating system onto your Mac. My friend has a Mac, and he say's it's quite a risky procedure. I don't recommend it. Sorry. :p2wheatley:

One more question: I have a Mac. Is it possible to use Hammer on a Mac, or is this to mch to ask?

Hey, if you keep making awesome maps, I'll keep testing them!

Thanks so much for your support! It's what keeps me making maps. :D
Tommy_Lobster 8 Feb, 2014 @ 5:16am
Well, if that's what you were going for, you certainly achieved it! Great chamber; I especially liked the red herring, with the different hights of walkways. Kept trying to jump off the lower one before figuring out you have to use the higher one. A million thumbs up!
Mr Fraggle (UK) 8 Feb, 2014 @ 1:21am
Nice.
Ves  [author] 7 Feb, 2014 @ 12:12pm
Thanks! Yes, that was what I was going for. :p2wheatley:

That was good! Definitely easy, but I still liked it. Based off the hatch override in chapter 7 "The Fall" of Portal 2, right? Basicly the same execution, but some libirties taken. Overall: 7.5

TopHATTwaffle.com is good for stuff like this. The caves need displacements, the sky needs a skybox, and different things.
Ves  [author] 7 Feb, 2014 @ 3:33am
At a full underground Hammer map? Yes. I wanted to see what people thought, and find out what I can do better. I really want to know how to make the cave walls something other than flat. This is just a first release, I might make it better. :p2wheatley:

Is this your first attempt? Nice, but the real design is meant to be a lot more detailed than this. I hope you get to that soon.
Ves  [author] 6 Feb, 2014 @ 3:41am
It is dark; you are in a cave. This is just the intro. The tests will come in the next one. :p2wheatley:

Nice test I like it!
