Neat

Gave it another go one year later. I spent more time trying to get the companion cube than I spent solving the actual puzzle. I kept thinking you had to do some fast maneuvering with the funnel and whatnot before realizing that you could just jump out of the portal surface on the wall. The intended ninja stuff was super easy. First try. I don't think I spent much more than maybe 15 minutes on the rest of the puzzle. It clicked way faster.

Still pretty good.

This is so much easier than it looks. I've spent well over an hour on this altogether. I had the solution set up without knowing it so many times it's outright embarrassing.

I read zigzagtenniscoe's last comment and that made me curious. So I tried it out. That was actually a while ago, and since it's indeed pretty hard I didn't finish it at the time. I've just solved it now, and feel very satisfied. The puzzle is good, despite a very random design. Good luck to those who are still trying to solve it!

I like fonaro's version and I uploaded a playthrough for it. It's difficult enough without a need for agility.
fonaro 22 Apr, 2018 @ 2:46am
@Gigopler I've uploaded a remake of this map that does not require quick mid-air portal shooting. You are welcome to try it out. It not that different really.

fonaro 15 Apr, 2018 @ 5:33am
Too bad... It is a very good map though. Maybe I'll make a remake of this map.
Gigo  [author] 15 Apr, 2018 @ 4:53am
This map is so old, I don't even have the original to edit anymore.
fonaro 15 Apr, 2018 @ 2:55am
I liked the very sophisticated solution, however, I would have change the redundant unpuzzely way to get the cube to something more interesting.
BehindPortal 15 Nov, 2017 @ 2:41am
ohh. really cool. im not good in ninja skills but some how i managed.
zigzagtenniscoe 3 Sep, 2016 @ 4:52pm
(Continued) - And that's coming from a player with 1900+ hours on Portal, so trust me on this one, play a lottttttt of Portal before attempting this.
zigzagtenniscoe 3 Sep, 2016 @ 4:51pm
Then of course the hard part began. Getting btoh of the cubes in the entrace/exit room with at least a portal surface on the funnel. Seemed impossible to me at the time. Thought of a multitude of things, most of which forgot the fact you needed to have something on the button to activate the laser. An hour+ of bouncing around aimlessly and actually thinking really hard about the puzzle and how to solve it, and everthing in between - in other words, hard work - got me here.

What a masterpiece of a puzzle. And I thought I had it all figured out.

GG Gig. Difficulty - VERY difficult. Not many puzzles even come close to being as hard as this.
zigzagtenniscoe 3 Sep, 2016 @ 4:48pm
(Continued) The first part was easy. It took a few different ideas but getting the weighted cube wasn't really that hard, I tried getting it with the reverse funnel the first time to find that it was also in line with the cube activating the reverse funnel itself so that didn't work at all. I had to actually do that as a first step tho, to get myself in a position where I could get momentum using that same protal surface that reverse funnel was and then bounce myself between 2 floor portals, reaching up to the weigted cube spawn button. I had to quickly place a portal on the now angled panel as I was falling to retrieve the cube. I've seen others had trouble in here with that (I read comments looking for a solution lol) but it was easy for me.
zigzagtenniscoe 3 Sep, 2016 @ 4:45pm
Oh. My. God. That took wayyyyyyyyyy too long. 90 minutes almost in this attempt, half an hour in the last one... overall spent 2 hours trying to figure out this thing. And the thing that gets me really mad is that I was one step away from the solution 3 other times - I had the cube on the button activating the laser, but never thought till now to put the other cube on the button activating the funnel and deactivating the lasers, well I did but I never seen the connection, so I could walk through while the laser was portaled through to the redirection, so I could stand at the other side and then portal the reverse funnel to suck the cube and destroy it, sending it back here which I wanted to do for soooooo long!
zwan33 4 Apr, 2016 @ 10:24am
Not at all simplistic! What a great puzzel! Couldn't solve it some month ago, but with a fresh mind, it took me only 30 minutes, tonight... Mindbending!
40ozKilla 18 Jan, 2016 @ 11:29pm
Never used the funnel in the test. I'm assuming I didn't beat it the intended way. I assume the funnel was to remove the cube from the button that lowers the platform, but having just played your map "outside the box" I had cube osicilating on the mind and I just bumped the cube off the button with the other cube after oscialting it then aiming at the wall beside the button.
wildgoosespeeder 28 Dec, 2014 @ 5:07pm
NVM. I am familar with sacrifice cube puzzles but mostly with pushing a button or something. I've rarely done fizzler sacrifices and then autorespawn . Usually it is just one xor the other, never both!
wildgoosespeeder 28 Dec, 2014 @ 5:00pm
I managed to trap myself just my exploring how to solve the second part. I know the excursion funnel is to push off the cube to the exit but trying to setup something I didn't try yet resulted in trapping:

I'm done for now. I need a solution video or demo file! I tried stacking cubes and switching cubes around on buttons. I am also aware of two different methods to redirect the laser into the catcher. I know that sacrificing the cube is part of the solution. I just hate outsmart fizzler tests. Also antlines were a bit of a mess. Updates to the in-game editor and my guide didn't exist at the time. Well, I solved it in my head. That was the easy part. Just couldn't manage the mouse gymnastics required to complete. Perhaps it was designed for a game controller rather than mouse and keyboard. Thumbs up for the design.
batman 4 Nov, 2014 @ 10:41am
oh man...i guess i've spent 3 hours on it but i managed somehow. Gotta take a short walk. P.s. Love you man..i mean keep making these mindblowing maps!
stormsend 25 Oct, 2014 @ 4:57pm
Fantastic puzzle. I'm no ninja so you'll understand when I say this is the kind of map you love/hate. Solving the first part was pretty easy. Actually doing it was murder. I jumped at least a hundred times because I knew that was how you get that cube. I never got it. After I had the second cube the fun began. This is one of the best puzzles I've seen. Great work. No more ninja jumps please. Ha ha. Thanks.
Kuba 15 Sep, 2014 @ 10:47am
Simply brilliant map.
bobdugan_2000 24 May, 2014 @ 2:35pm
Hated the Ninja part to get the cube over the liquid acid stff (took me probably 30 tries - I'm horrible at it). Loved the puzzle after that. Great job!
Gigo  [author] 22 Dec, 2013 @ 11:50am
Thanks! Glad to see people enjoying my chambers ^.^
ken.roberts 22 Dec, 2013 @ 5:02am
So cool - a ninja move that required precise timing, spinning, shooting . . . all in one quick sequence. That by itself was incredible. But THEN. THEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A full week of brain-smashing attempt after attempt . . . pencils and paper to draw it out . . . long bouts of thinking while sitting out on the porch . . . all this before I finally solved it. The solution is so damn tricky ! !
Special Agent Dale Cooper 16 Jul, 2013 @ 10:05am
This was great. I solved the first part pretty quickly but then it took me ages to figure out how to get both cubes and the laser into the entrance room. Pretty clever. Another perfect chamber from you. Thank you :)
kimist108 30 Jun, 2013 @ 8:35am
A little ninja skill and enough momentum to get second cube without winding up in the goo. Also, thinking is required.
SloppyPlatypus 25 Jun, 2013 @ 11:37am
And I thought that the test chamber would be solved once I had the cube... Got the cube like five months ago then for months had the sensation that I was one cube short! Took me ages! Finally! Great challenge!
Ale 27 May, 2013 @ 5:14am
"a bit frustrated by the agility this chamber requires to proceed" "extremely difficult map"
Where is the required agility??? Instead i think it's a very well designed map, not difficult but smart, with many moments of good thinking. Thanks
AgentFire 31 Mar, 2013 @ 9:30am
Solved it, though was a bit frustrated by the agility this chamber requires to proceed. I can provide that agility, but that was suprisingly high. Not that high though like in my last three sweet chambers which you yet not solved.
Sloi 5 Jan, 2013 @ 1:51pm
I saved myself some time and frustration by leaving one cube in "limbo", moving to the platform and then sending said cube on a collision course with the other.

Not the intended solution, but I give myself brownie points for execution. :-)

Nice map, Gig.
Stalker 11 Dec, 2012 @ 1:17pm
Brilliant map. Thanks for it!
Gigo  [author] 18 Nov, 2012 @ 4:13am
It's an old puzzle, so it wasn't my best :)
Dale Cooper 3 Nov, 2012 @ 10:50am
My favourite map, thanks for making it
pVo 26 Oct, 2012 @ 6:06am
I did the last part like jyjey because I cannot understand how to mantain the tunnel and both the cubes in the exit room... any tips?
NiclO (- - ) 12 Oct, 2012 @ 10:52am
Great map. Definitly a frustrating *sigh/growl* map. More frustration = more satisfaction. Great mind tease. Thank you!
Cobbs 15 Jul, 2012 @ 3:15pm
Acquiring the weighted cube is a bit headache inducing. After 2 tries, I grabbed a cold beer and came back for a third... nailed it. Overall excellent map.
jyjeyz 28 Jun, 2012 @ 3:10am
also found few ways to get companion cube, with and without using reportal. great map!
jyjeyz 28 Jun, 2012 @ 2:57am
that's my way to solve this test without funnel.. http://youtu.be/B5YbjDxqLd4
astonostosson 18 Jun, 2012 @ 3:26pm
Man, this is hard. I managed to get the second cube and all, but I just can't figure out the last part. Oh well, i'll sleep on it and see if that helps.
[NeW]Yuria 2 Jun, 2012 @ 11:33pm
I solved it. But I coulnd't figure out how to get both the funnel and the cube in the first room, so I used the redirection cube to knock out the cube off the button :P
gibus expert 25 May, 2012 @ 4:04pm
One of the most elegant puzzles out there, however if I solved it the right way, one of the parts may be very hard for a causal player, I've had to buttonmash that part several times to get it right.

Also your puzzle is the first one to tempt me into trying that: There is a secondary way to "pass" the puzzle, because of the Havok multiverse (and you cannot possibly fix that) http://youtu.be/dUSjvaJ9qNA
esmo 24 May, 2012 @ 11:07pm
I can see what has to be done but I can't turn around quick enough (xbox controller) for the portal/self flinging required to obtain the weighted cube. perhaps locate the pedestal button to line up with the angled panel so more players can be challenged by the rest of the puzzle. cheers
whypinto 18 May, 2012 @ 10:06pm
Hands down my favorite puzzle yet from the PTI. This had me stumped for about an hour and a half. I had my roommate look at it and watching him play helped me see the solution. Bravo dude, there are at least three concepts I learned from the puzzle that I will never forget. It also inspired my second puzzle called Twins!

I love this puzzle so much I made a video of my play through, WARNING SOLUTION WITHIN: http://goo.gl/gQqVC

I'd love to know what you think of my puzzles as well, especially Twins: http://goo.gl/Uovul
Publishme 17 May, 2012 @ 1:56pm
You are awesome !!! You got me!!!!
took me about 2h to solve it !!! with one break!
then when i stand there with two cubes to solve it i nearly was thinking to give up.
i knew how the end should be, but how to get the most important two portals at the end, that was bonebreaking work :D
also thought, no you can´t shut down the game here! if you once shut down you have to get back these damn fucking cube -.-
So Awesome, youre great. But i cant play your maps in a queue they are so exhausting.
Looking forward for new stuff!!! :D
Sincerely strider :)
Vintage 16 May, 2012 @ 5:03pm
well ive solved it in my head (then checked here to see that I got it right). but i lack the timing / skill / patience to pull it off. while a nice puzzle, i'm not a fan of the effort needed to pull it off
Voldepreuss 16 May, 2012 @ 9:39am
Yes I was jumping, too. From the wall in the second room through the floor and then I catapulted up to the button, from there I quickly turned (in the air) and portaled to the angular portal surface and flew over the water, catching the falling cube.
big_n1 16 May, 2012 @ 9:28am
@Voldepreuss
How did you get the second cube? I'm jumping.
If you're on another video recording for me.
big_n1 16 May, 2012 @ 9:23am
The most difficult thing in this chamber to take a second cube, everything else is simple logic.
Passed. Yeah!
